Krieg and Templar Medusa V Story - 40K Terra

Heres some fluff featuring the 501st Death Korps and My Black Templars that I wrote for Medusa V. Hope you enjoy,

****Outskirts of Sybilla Primus, near the Shrine of Deus Imperator, Day 14 of the Siege.****

Sergeant Siegfried Frundsberg peered up over the lip of the c-shaped embankment his squad was pinned down behind. The Kriegan ducked back down as fast as he looked up as bullets from an unknown target flew through the air right where his head had been a moment before. Siegfried had been in the Emperor’s service for 15 years before Medusa V, and in all that time serving on countless worlds, from the ash wastes of Armageddon to the frozen Landscape of Geist, the city fighting on Medusa V was by far the worst he had seen. And by the Emperor he had seen a lot.

He looked back at his squad who sat waiting for orders, occasionally looking up to see if they could find their targets. Meyer and Dietrich formed the heavy bolter team, which was set up on their right flank. Manteuffel had his meltagun sitting across his lap while he leaned up against the barricade. Sturm, Hausser and Krieglitz all had their lasguns at the ready as they watched their Sergeant closely. Zumwald sat with the vox caster adjusting his autogun leaned up against the wall. Frundsberg knew they had to get moving or dig in better because whatever had them pinned down was probably not as bad as what came after it. You learn that real quick in the Guard, Frundsberg thought.

His orders had been to find what ever defensive positions they could and dig in, Chaos would be hitting in full force. But all that went to hell when he and his squad got separated form the main force in an ill conceived counterattack. Now they were stuck out in no-mans-land until they could find away back to the Kriegan defenses.
There hadn’t been much more than cultists in the first attack and command had thought the Alpha Legion might be their opponents due to markings on corpses, but when the siege guns started they realized they were facing a large force of Iron Warriors. With shells raining down from the Iron Warriors artillery, all the Kriegans could do would be wait out the bombardment and dig in, because what was to follow was sure to a lot worse. Frundsberg looked back across the shattered landscape, he thought it might have once been magnificent to him at one point in his life but now after 15 years in the Death Korps the ruined Shrine of Deus Imperator reminded him of a hundred other war zones he had been in. Frundberg stuck his head up again to look around but this time he caught sight of the sniper.

A cultist, in what looked to be a tattered Imperial Guard Uniform, sat about 200m from their position. Frundsberg went ducked back down and gave his squad a series of hand signals. His men went into action immediately. Meyer and Dietrich layed down suppressive fire on the traitor while Sturm and Hausser broke into a run across an open stretch to get to a rubble pile on the other side of the road. The sniper took a shot at them but missed. Lasguns cracked and Manteuffel’s meltagun sizzled as he fired. The sniper, realizing his position had been discovered, tried to move but was not quick enough as the heavy bolter found its mark and blew away half of the wall he was hiding behind. The shells ripped through the wall and shredded through the traitor behind. Frundsberg offered a prayer to the Emperor in thanks.

Then he heard tanks. Not the Imperial tanks he was accustomed to but something else. He gave the order to fall back to the Kriegan lines and throwing caution to the wind they made a mad dash southward. The guardsmen ran and ran until they were about to round a city block when a Silver Predator tank rolled around the corner behind them. Frundsberg’s squad froze. He saw the turret swing towards them and he knew that now he was going to the Emperor’s side. Then the tank exploded in an orange ball of fire as a Traitor Marine was launched out of the turret by the force of the explosion. What was left of him landed with a thud and a sick sounding smack near Sturm on the left. Behind the Iron Warriors tank rolled up a Black Templars Land Raider, lascannons still sizzling form the discharge. A Templar Space Marine appeared out of the hatch and made the sign of the aquila to the beleagured Guardsmen. The banner of Marshall Kroh’s Crusade was painted on the side of the tank. Frundsberg hadn’t recognized the marine until he took off his helmet and waved the guardsmen inside the tank. It was Brother Sergeant Ansgar.

Frundsberg had served with him on the Armageddon in the Guard and ever since the 501 Death Korps had joined the Crusade. The Marine waited for all to board and then closed the hatch and went below. There was a 10 man Crusader squad in the tank already and with Frundsberg’s squad the total came to 20 men with a heavy bolter. Space was limited to say the least. Ansgar came over to the Kriegan Veteran and shook his hand.

“Glad to see you again Sergeant.” So he hasn’t forgotten that shot on Geist. Frundsberg remembered how he had saved the Marine’s life by killing a sniper that was about to kill Ansgar on the Ice world. And here, on Medusa V, Ansgar had returned the favor by chance, killing that Iron Warriors tank.

“Likewise Marine,” Frundsberg replied. “Well now I guess we’re even, I save you on Giest you save me here.”

Ansgar laughed, and smiled at the soldier he had served with for so long. Ansgar had been from Krieg before he became a Space Marine. The men of Krieg and the Marines under Marshall Kroh’s command had come to grow close as the crusade fought. It was an odd bond forged only between men in battle. The Marines respected the Guardsmen’s sacrifice as the Guardsmen admired the Marines. It was a unique Crusade in that Guard and Astartes served together in mutual respect, all dedicated to the will of the Emperor.

The Vox unit in the land raider came to life and the voice of Marshall Kroh Came through the Loudspeaker,
“All men under the banner of the Kroh Crusade, Fall back to the Shrine of Deus Imperator immediately, imminent Iron Warriors attack. We must hold the Shrine at all costs. We fight on sacred ground today and we will not fail. For Dorn, For Krieg, For the Emperor!!!”
Angsar looked over at Frundsberg as the Land raider hatch dropped open and said “Back into the fray. FOR THE EMPEROR!!!!”
