The Truth Bearers

ok so im getting back into 40k. i thought i would try and put together a backstory for my chaos army. this is what i have come up with. i know i am no writer and the grammer and spelling is awfull even after spellcheck so bear with me. i've had a hand cleaning up a the beginning so far lets see what you guys think.

The Truth Bearers

as lorgar of the word bearers was first discovering the gods of the warp before the whole chapter had fallen to the taint of the chaos gods. there where many loyal warriors who where staunch belevers in spreading the imperial truth threw the great crusade. Lorgar sated the dark gods desire by offering up mere crewmen and members of the Imperial Guard at first. Easily replaceable, they're loss aroused little suspicion. Soon, the corrupt powers demanded more, calling for the blood of Astartes.
In his ambition, Lorgar succumbed to their demands. As Lorgar fed them to the gods, brother by brother, suspicions grew of his secret experiments. While the loyal members of the chapter questioned Lorgar's activities, there were those that joined him in his depravity. Thus Lorgar and his tainted bretheren gathered the names of the Brothers who would never turn from the Emperor's undying light. Their list encompassed a mere third of the chapter.

Still keeping his foul activities a secret, Lorgar and his dark bretheren laid a careful trap. After a hard fought invasion of a hostile world, Lorgar and his traitorous brothers put their plan into motion, the mass sacrafice that the gods where demanding.

Lorgar summoned all the loyalist Astartes to his audience and briefed them on an emegency mission to be embarked upon immediately. In his duplicity, Lorgar had falsified a distress call from another expedition fleet that needed dire reinforcements immediately.

The traitors had rigged all the ships that the loyalists would travel in so that all the navigational systems would self-destruct shortly after entering the warp, leaving them pray to the whims of chaos.

The plan worked perfectly. The faithful boarded their vessels and disembarked on their mission. Once they entered the warp all communication was lost. Logar was pleased and proceeded to delve deeper into the depthes of chaos!


ok now we fast forward to a few thousand years after the horus heresy when a small fleet emerges from the warp battered and beaten after ages lost in the warp. they have fought to survive for centuries hoping to make it back to warn the imperium of there betrayal at the hands of the word bearers.the only driving force that kept them alive was their unwavering devotion to the imperial truth. in the centuries lost afloat in the warp they had come across many worlds that worshipped false gods that they came to belive, due to direct contact where massive xeno intelligences beyond anyone's comprehention except maybe the emperor. so they swore to bring the news of their finding to the emperor.the chaos gods cared little for the lack of devotion these bings lorgar had sent them showed. only that the worlds they found erupted in death and destruction.

the newly freed marines made for the first imperial planet they could find to resupply and get word to their brethren and the emperor of what had befallen them. to their horror appon makin contact with the so called imperial world they learnt that some heretical cult was ruling this world with its worship of an emperor god! so the truth bearers, the name adopted during their centuries of trying to find their way out of the warp to let the imperium know the truth.and their crusade threw the warp to spread the imperial truth)
set apon the world to cleanse it in the name of the great crusade. they figured out after that centuries had passed since ther betrayal and by the 3rd world that they found that claimed to be part of the imperium, they all worshiped this emperor god that they could not except. they where confronted and beaten back by the loyal space marines of the imperium who cared not to listen to ther pleese and seemed to worship this false god emperor. they wher beaten and wher forced to retreat back into the warp but not before they wher able to repair their nav systems and restock ther fleet. shortly after they came across a fleet of the black legion and learnt of horus's rebellion and the emperors betrail to humanity and discarding of his own imperial truth in his attempt to ascend to godhood. and swore or cleanse the imperium of the heretic believers in this false god emperor. as they continued their great crusade and the spreading of the imperial truth , in and outside or the warp!

well that what i've come up with so far l would like to know what you guys think and any suggestions would be appreciated.

I indeed cannot wait to to see the direction you'll take this army. When do you think we can get pics of the build and when do you beleive your fluff will be finalized? Overall good work.

hmm.
while the overall theme is pretty cool and interesting, there are a couple of things wrong with it.
the emperor himself never claimed godhood, and never renounced his own humanity or demanded worship.

now as they learned this from the black legion, is this belief taken from the corrupted truth that the chaos legion told them? that would make sense to me, but its unclear.
but are they fighting the imperium or chaos?
IMHO they should actually be fighting chaos, but be independant of the imperium. even with their corrupted view of the emperor, i dont think they would so swiftly denounce the imperium and join chaos. after all, they were the ones lorgar marked as feirce loyalists. just my 2 cents on that

for modeling and painting, you could do a pre-heresy word bearers scheme, or a different color scheme since they were betrayed and no doubt dont want to be associated with the traitor legion.

i havent gotten to flushing out rules and what not yet as i just wrote this a few days ago i was originaly calling the chapter the blood reapers and was using a bloodred/ gunmetal, colorsceme.but when i sat down and came up with the idea for the background i looked at the list of the original chapters and the word bearers wher originaly crimson. so a little waterd down blackwash close enough for me
good points dan, your right about the emperor. but the TB's wher lost in the warp and missed that hole chunk of history. so they came out to humanity worshiping the emperor. wich to them was blasphemy and they had already attacked and cleansed 3 worlds before they wher confronted buy the imperial spacemariens, by that time they wher already branded as traitors. and ther plees fell on deff ears. and lets face it centuries in the warp had left its mark on ther sanity. the chaos gods nutured ther fanatical belife in the imerial truth and had contact with the legion letting them belive they wher nothing more than mass xeno inteligences.khorne humself would on accasion leed them to worlds in the warp that wher fanatical worshipers of tezeech or slanesh just for the carnage he knew would ensue.

As for painting I love the pre-heresy word bearers scheme and these guys sound pretty proud they should bear their colors with pride

i put a few picks up on the imag host thingy. one of my lords wick i need to do some detail touching up on, a standard truth bearer trooper with a old zerker, and karn for the heck of it.
