Default Vallo Domus

my second attempt in writing a 40k fluff story. incorporates three of my own armies

enjoy...

132 sisters. That was all. 132 against a horde thousands strong. The Order of the Ardent Soul still held their ground upon the world of Ilano Secondus. The only remaining part of Hive Ilano Primus, the capital hive, was the spire. It contained a tiny landing pad, a small chapel, and a courtyard leading from below. They had stripped the grand balconies and walls of the courtyard and installed defendable platforms and fire positions. Holes bashed in the walls were made and then patched up, so sisters could swiftly punch through and purge their foe with bolter and chainsword. Now they waited for the enemy to make their final push. The enemy, of course, was the forces of Crot Skulltaker, Scourge of Kaschada. His corrupted battle barge, The Brass Throne, had suddenly appeared out of the warp 3 months ago. They landed in the outskirts of the city, ignoring the defense lasers that blew away the dreadclaw drop pods. The local PDF forces had quickly defected, and turned the defense lasers on the local Lightning fighter squadron attached to the hive!
Now the combined forces were in an orgy of slaughter. With noone to defend them, the populace had fled upward. The larger landing platform had been a mash of humanity as transport ships from neighboring hives desperately tried to rescue as many as they could. The weight of the people soon crushed the ancient support structure and it toppled into the hive, sending hundreds to their deaths. It soon did not matter, as Chaos Talon fighters shot down the fleeing transports.
When the Adeptus Sororitas had rallied it surviving forces and occupied the hive, Cannoness Briana had tearfully turned away hundreds of the mob. The chapel was packed to bursting with civilians and they could handle no more. They were left to the rampaging servants of Khorne. Inquisitor Lord Malakai had sent a desperate distress call that almost burnt out his astropath as the message fought through the warps influence, and now was not sure it had even reached anyone at all.
The stench of the warp was heavy in the air, hardening the resolve of the defenders. The Inquisitor's Techpriest triple checked his charges, three gun-servitors. Blessings from mars. The Sisters sung hymnals of the emporer, asking for his holy guidance to crush the hated servents of chaos.
The sound of chanting rose above the songs of the Sororitas. Praise to the blood god, whipping the traitor guardsmen and warped marines into a deeper, crazed frenzy of battle.
The forces of Khorne appeared over the ridge. Coherency long since forgotten, a mob of traitor PDF ran full speed at the servents of the emporer, wielding their lasguns and long, dripping knives. Though long out of range, they nevertheless shot at the Sisters. The shots that managed to reach them simply pinged off of their holy armour, nicking the white surface or singing their sky blue cloaks. War machines of the traitor forces advanced through the mob. Sentinals had been stripped of ranged firepower, fitted instead with flamers, chainswords and spikes. A leman russ belched smoke and rumbled through the mob, crushing several in the crews frenzy to see the emporers servents grinded beneath the tracks.
Cannoness Briana led the sisters in the final hymn before the traitors were in range, asking the emporer to guide their hands.
“Fire!”
the clarion call rang out and immediately the front ranks of PDF forces were cut down. The songs of praise to Him on the Throne continued through the slaughter, though drowned out by the hideous chanting. The sisters faith in the emperor meant that they in fact did not need the emperors help. simple bolter shots punched through the armor of the sentinals, killing the pilots or detonating the promethium, spreading the flaming gel through the horde. They toppled over, killing even more of the frenzied followers of chaos. If their fire held, it seemed like the sisters could hold off the horde. For now. Their ammunition could not last forever, though, and with the air dominated by chaos fighters, no help could come. Barring a miracle, of course.

Sounds good so far! One thing I might suggest is slowing down. I think putting in some dialogue will help this. But I like what you've set up and I eagerly await more!

Chapter two

Briana and Malekai entered the greeting chamber of the Emperors Chapel, which they had set up as their field command. Servitors clomped around carrying boxes of ammunition for the sisters outside. “if things continue as they are,” reported Malekai, “we have enough ammunition to hold them off for 5 more hours.”
“enough to perhaps gain the emperors blessing, and perhaps take as many with us as we can. Even if every shot we have, every drop of promethium kills one of them, there are more then enough to remove of from this precarious position. For now, though, we must pray that your astropath’s message managed to reach someone. Anyone.” The Holographic display showed the hive and the area around it. Luckily the forces of Crot Skulltaker hadn’t managed to cut off their communications, so they still had reports on the forces of the other hives. Minor rebellions, cult activities, and mutant uprisings had occurred since the forces of Khorne had arrived, but nothing on the scale of that which had happened at Ilano Primus. The other hives forces had established a loose cordon around the capital hive, and no chaos forces had managed to break out. However, it was only a matter of time. The World Eater forces were not committed to any fight yet, letting their lesser minions, mutants and traitor PDF, take the brunt of the defending forces for now.
Cannoness Briana continued “things on the outside go well. In space though, The Brass Throne, is in dominance. If we fall, we cannot execute final protocol without orbital forces. They’ve destroyed the defense station, correct?”
“Yes,” said Malekai, “but who knows. Our Navy could yet have gotten the message.”
“Aye, and they’ll arrive here in 300 years and this will be another deamon world. Skies of fire. The people enslaved and chanting permanent tribute to the foul one, Khorne. Come. Lets report back to battle. They no doubt have need of us.”
They left the chapel and took stock of the situation. The traitor forces had almost reached the courtyard. They crouched behind ruins and barricades shooting at the entrenched Sisters. Three of them stood atop a gutted hellhound shaking icons of Khorne. A dozen other minions of chaos surrounded them, stamping and chanting. They took up their swords and, horribly, fell on each other in terrible bloodlust. The terrible ritual completed, the air shook before them. A rent appeared in the very fabric of the universe. Horned humanoids, with skin and manes slick with blood, phased into existence.
“By the Emporer!” cried Malekai, “they’ve managed to summon deamons!”
“Sisters! Prepare yourselves!”
More then eight feet tall, they were the stuff of nightmares. They carried huge, two handed axes that rippled with warp energy. They trotted forward, and then broke into a run, their hooves leaving burning footprints behind them. Screaming deamonic words of hate and malice, the Bloodletters charged into the courtyard. They quickly bounded the distance to the sisters, and hit their lines. The Sisters power armour was no use against the deamons warp blades. “come sisters! Banish these foul beings of the warp. They sully this world of the emporer!” one Veteran Superior unsheathed her chainsword and entered the fray. She lifted her bolt pistol and jumped on the back of one of the deamons, emptying the guns magazine into its foul neck. It dissipated beneath her into a foul, wispy smoke. As she fell to the ground, another deamon swung at her. She lifted her chainsword and managed to swat away the blade, and kicked out, knocking it to the ground. Another sister lifted her flamer and sent it back to the warp in purging flame. That same sister was then punched off her feet by yet another deamon, sending a shoulder pauldron spinning away. The Superior, whose name was Katrina, thrust her chainsword into its stomach, sending yet another deamon back to the warp. There were only 5 deamons left, but they were reeking havock amongst the remaining sisters in the squad.
Katrina slashed down with her chainsword and the deamon parried with its huge axe, blocking the blow with a force that made her teeth rattle. It swept at her, meaning to cleave her in two, but she twisted away and cut a deep gash in her opponents arm. It ignored the pain, and she wondered if pain could even penetrate the bloodlust. Her backstroke soon made that question null, as the deamons head lept from its shoulders, it and its body quickly dissipating into a foul mist. Three sisters stood back to back holding off the remaining deamons with their holy bolters. Katrina slammed her chainsword against the axe of one of the demaons, and managed to cut it in two! Armed only with the head of the axe, the deamon backed off, snarling. The sister with the flamer enveloped it and sent another deamon screaming back to the warp. The three sisters in the circle focused their bolter fire and punched a hole in the. The other two, seizing the opening, lept forward and stabbed one sister through the breastplate and hacked frenzied at the other. Suddenly, a chainsword burst through the bronze armour a full foot before the deamon dissipated. The remaining two, with the death of their comrades, could no longer hold their presence in this place and they soon joined their comrades.
The Traitor PDF forces had advanced into the courtyard with the slackened fire. The Leman Russ fired its cannon and a balcony that had held a Retributor squad disappeared in smoke and flame. Corpo Santo, the orders blessed immolator, lept forward through a wall and six sisters lept out. The melta-guns they carred burned holes in its front armour, and the duel multi-meltas on Corpo Santo scorched the air and melted the Russ’s turret. Battle cannon ammunition inside the tank were set off and the tank erupted, blowing a deep gouge in the courtyards stone floor.
As if at an unseen signel, the PDF fire stopped, and their forces retreated out of range. A chimera, richly imbellished with bloody symbols, drove forward into the dusty gloom. All was eerily calm. The top opened, and the PDF commander climbed out. He was not the sniveling fool he once was. He had grown two feet taller, and was rippled in muscle. His lord had been generous for his betrayal. His eyes were glowing red, and his hair dripped He walked before them and addressed Briana “Pitiful servant of the emperor, your time has come. Surrender and I might grant you the gift of presenting your heads to my master!”
Briana gave her answer. She snatched a sister’s bolter and fired a burst into the corrupted commander’s chest. As he fell, giant holes in his chest, the sisters erupted in cheers. These quickly turned to moans, as he got back up with a wicked grin. The gaping wounds seemingly did nothing to hinder his movements. Even as they watched, muscles reknit and corrupted skin rejuvenated. With a cry, giant, ogryn like beings leapt from the back of the chimera. One of the mutants threw him a huge, two handed broadsword. The Commander led his spawn in a headlong charge at Briana and the Inquisitor. His PDF forces also resumed the attack, though they came nowhere near their commanders.
“Sister Fonn! Bring forth your charges!” called Briana “Malekai, we must aid them! We go with the beloved Repentia.”
10 Sisters Repentia ran screaming into the courtyard, followed by Sister Fonn, their mistress. Cracking her signs of office, two neural whips, over their heads, she was almost as crazed to get to grips with the hated deamons as they were. Briana and Malekai joined in the charge. Chanting words of banishment, Briana unsheathed her power sword and the two forces collided with the force like a thunderclap.

Chapter three-The Traitor commander fought like a man possessed. He and his retinue of gigantic monsters were pushing the sisters repentia and the two imperial commanders back, almost to the chapel doors. Briana glanced upwards, and, seeing the Aquila wrapped around the sign of the Ecclesiarchy, renewed her attack with furious zealotry. The traitor commander weilded his sword with such speed it was as if it was a normal size, not a two meter beamoth. Fonn stepped forward to challenge him, and wrapped one of her whips around his sword, pulling him toward her. He let himself be pulled and jumped in the air, planting two feet on her chest and knocking her into one of his men. As the others fell, he picked up his fallen sword which still had the whip wrapped around it. he picked up both and, as Fonn rose, hit her with her own weapon, wrapping it around her neck, the energy weapon cutting deeply. He then yanked her toward himself and let her momentum impale her on his sword. Lifting her up, he threw her against a wall and looked for another victim.
The Sisters Repentia were wreaking havok amongst the clumsy mutants, decapitating them with their eviscerators. Briana searched for the Traitor commander, meaning to break the back of the PDF forces. There! He fought two repentia, laughing as he mocked their holy frenzy.
“Most disgusting traitor, face your doom!” she challenged “your evil influnce on this world is at an end.”
Not bothering with fancy salutes, he knocked back his opponents and ran full speed, bellowing his hate at the cannoness. Though the commander was a follower of khorne, he had almost no experience against a master opponent. He was swiftly on the defensive. Briana ducked under the massive sword, and cut hard into his side. Howling in pain, he lashed out and hit her on the side of the head with the flat of his blade. Dazed, she fell. He lifted his weapon for the killing blow, but suddenly the inquisitor was there! He knocked away the broadsword and kicked his feet out from under him. As the Traitor scrambled for his weapon, Malekai helped Briana to her feet. He took out his bolt pistol and loaded it with blessed psycannon rounds. “we must destroy this beast,” he panted.
“let us do it together then,” replied Briana. With a snarl, Malekai opened fire, the holy bullets punching through the traitors tattered uniform. He staggered back, dropping his weapon again. Briana seized the opprotunity and lept forward, stabbing him through the chest.
Increadibly, he grinned and laughed miniacly. Briana tried to pull out her sword, but it was stuck fast. She looked around, and saw that the Repentia had managed to finish off the Big Mutants. “Repentia! To me! To me!”

The traitor dropped dead to the ground, but then drew back up again, limp like a marionette. He went stiff and started to rise into the air, a crimson light coming out of his eyes and mouth. Blood poured out of his many wounds, more then his warped body could ever hold. It gathered around him like tentacles, whipping around as it it was alive. his skin swelled, and his ragged, bloody uniform finally shredded. A dark miasma of twisting energy formed made his body indistinct and murky, hiding his form. Huge, curling horns burst from his forehead, and his face twisted into an even more bestial, dog like form.

Briana checked the battle lines, noting with pleasure that the sisters had given insignificant ground. Two more leman russ’s lay gutted at the entrance, forcing the PDF forces to climb through the charred ruins. Corpo Santo and its dominions squad had done well. “Malekai, retreive your gun servitors. Load the special psycannon rounds.”
Malekai ran to his waiting techpriest, and instructed him to load the servitors with the huge heavy bolter psycannon rounds. They were extremely hard to find, and had only managed to get them by looking through the ruins of forge worlds in the eye of terror. The servitors, once loaded, clomped forward to a good position at which they had a clear shot of the emerging Bloodthirster. The Greater Deamon had swelled to 3 meters tall, and was still growing. The traitors huge broadsword also started to rise into the air, and formed into a two handed axe rippiling with energy. A huge crimson arm punched its way through the dark miasma. The tendril of blood snaking around the deamon consolidated into a firey whip. The Bloodthirster spread its huge wings and leaped into the air. Time seemed to slow. “By The Emporer kill it!,” cried Briana “Everyone! Fire, fire!”
The Gun servitors open fire with the sound of paper ripping. The Psychically impregnated, supersonic rounds punching through the brass armour and ignoring the deamons warp sheilding. The deamon screamed more in rage then pain, and then plummeted from the sky. It slammed into the Gun servitors, lashing around, ripping through them. The inquisitors techpriest, the servitors keeper, cried out and slashed at the huge deamon with his power axe with all his might, but still only managed to scratch it. the Bloodthirster looked down at the tiny annoyance, and picked up the screamin man. He leapt into the air again and threw him far into the hive, miles below. He again slammed back down in the courtyard and began slaughtering the blessed sisters with wontan bloodlust. “Malekai, give me your stake!” Malekai, like all witch hunters, possesed a long iron rod used for destroying witches and deamons. He threw it to Briana, who said, "Most holy Repentia. Prepare yourselves. You have never faced a being of this magnitude. You must distract the being, and allow me to destroy it with Malekai's Stake of Banishment. For The Emporer!"
With a zealous cry, Cannoness Briana led the Sisters Repentia on a headlong charge to certain doom.

Side note: since this is my first serious attempt at fluff writing, some feedback would be much appreciated. critisism is always welcome, as it only makes the story better!

The Order of the Ardent soul scattered, leaving a wide circle around the Bloodletter. The Repentia, Inquisitor Malekai, and Cannoness Briana formed a smaller circle around the Bloodletter.
With a cry, the deamon slashed at the Repentia with its firey whip. Several were decapitated or thrown against the stone walls with sickening cracks, dead. On the opposite side, others lept in and hacked at the deamons legs. Their blessed eviscerators cutting deeply into its red flesh. The deamon roared its hate and lept into the air again, attempting the same smashing fall as before. The Sororitas were ready, and opened fire. The concentrated attacked ripped through the vulnerable wings and the deamon stumbled in the air and fell back to earth, shattering the cobblestones. Before it could rise, the repentia renewed the attack. Briana leaped up on the deamon weilding the blessed stake. “Emporer guide my hand” she whispered. She lifted the stake. She lifted. The deamon was getting back up! She slipped, and jammed the stake into the deamon to stay upright. The Bloodthirster screamed, this time in pain. The area around the stake blistered and burned, but it was a superficial wound. The deamon scrambled to grab hold of the creature on its back. Briana let go and dropped to the ground, attempting to rejoin her lines. The deamon saw her, and snatched her off the ground!
“NO!” cried Malekai, “All units shoot its head! Send this son of a grox back to the warp!
The heavy firepower pinged off of the brass armour, its warp sheilds, or only managed to scratch the unholy thing. With a roar that shattered the stained glass windows of the chapel. It flung Briana with the force of a missle against a wall.
She smashed through a breakthrough wall they had made, to ambush enemies in the courtyard, bursting through and smacked into the opposite side. It yeiled, and as she slid limply to the floor it and much of the ceiling collapsed down on her.

There was a hush for a moment, and the Sororitas yelled with the vengance of the valkeries and let loose with everything they had. The deamons armour struggled under the extreme firepower, and he brought his axe down on the nearest target, the immolator Corpo Santo. It cleaved the front end in two and slammed into the heavy flamer turrent. The sisters inside leapt out before the promethium detonated. With its axe stuck in the heavy front armour, he simply lifted the entire tank with one hand! The fuel and flamer-tanks dripped their explosive liquids onto the fel beast.
Malekai climbed onto the deamons back, swearing an oath to avenge Briana, lifted his thunder hammer and smashed it down on the stake which still held in the Bloothirsters flesh.
Its eyes widended as the stake ground in deeper. With a terrible scream, it dropped its whip, axe, and attached tank. The weapons dissolved into greasy smoke and the Corpo Santo, rent and smoking, shattered the surface of the courtyard. The stake generated a holy energy that was baneful to deamons. Again, Malekai smashed his hammer down on the iron stake, driving it yet deeper. Lighting shot from the deamons eyes and mouth, igniting the volotile chemicals from the wrecked immolator. Flames ingulfed the deamon and the inquisitor, but Malekai strove on. The Bloodthirster struggled to get the human off of its back, but the deamons host body was destroyed. It howled in pain and rage, and Malekai drove the stake a third time and it burst through the brass chestpeice! The tip punched the center of the symbol of khorne emblazoned on the breastplate.
The traitor PDF forces, seeing their acsended leader vanquished, because to back up and soon broke. The avenging sisters followed and the rout turned into a massacre as the fleeing traitors were butchered by the swift fire of the Order of the Ardent Soul.
Malekai dropped to the ground and struggled to quench the terrible flames. Several sisters ran over to assist and covered him with their cloaks. Soon, he was safe. His power armour was deeply scratched from were the deamon had tried to pry him off, and his armour, cloak, and most of his long hair and face had been charred. He huddled on the ground, struggeling to rise and see the Bloodthirster.
The deamon was in its death throes. It layed in the center of a crater of shattered stone. Repentia lay scattered around him like leaves, almost all had fallen.
The demaon itself, however, had fallen on its back. The iron stake punchering its chest Its torso and head horribly burned, and vicious wounds dealt by the Repentia. It convulsed, and its diamond nails gouged deep stratches in the surface. The greasy smoke that came from banished deamons now rose from him. the Bloodthirster shrank, and was soon obscured from view in a dark cloud.
Malekai rose, and everything around him seemed a blur. He limped slowly over to the pile of rubble that contained the fallen cannoness. He struggled to move the stones covering her. Several sisters laboured beside him. Soon, she was uncovered. They lifted her out and removed her helmet.
“By the emporer. She lives! Briana is alive!” yelled Katrina. She had battled a bloodthirster and lost. She had breached a wall with her body and had been buried by half a ton of masonry, and yes she lived. Her armour had been through hell and back. Her sword arm had been under a huge block, and her elbow, forearm, and hand were smashed beyond recognition. Several arms were also broken, and dozens of other wounds from the deamons terrible fury just as horrendous showed. They rushed her to the command post’s medical center and tried to remove her armour. However, they were so horrendous that they were forced to cut it off in several places.
Malekai also soon succumbed to his wounds and exhaustion, and Katrina took command, waiting for the next thrust. No doubt Crot would come to crush this stubborn defense personally.
An hour passed. Suddanly, the sky lit up with dozens of explosions. “What is that?” wondered Katrina.
“A space battle? Perhaps the Astropaths message got through!” exclaimed another Sister.
Soon, above the hive, thunderhawks appeared! They were swarmed by chaos Talon fighters, and several fell, flaming, to the ground. They held their own, and navy Lightnings soon came to their aid. The tide in the skies turned, and the remaining Talons fled back to their own ships high in space.
“Everyone, out of the courtyard!” yelled Katrina. She saw what looked like comets plummeting toward the spire. As the neared, she saw they were teardrop shaped drop pods. Stern thrusters fired, and their progress slowed and the online computers adjusted and came closely together, and slammed into the courtyard. The sisters gathered around, and the hatches exploded outward.
Space marines. A man in jet black armour and a skull mask stepped out, weilding a flickering mace and a plasma pistol. He removed his chaplains helm and rubbed his crew cut hair. In a deep baritone, he introduced himself. “I am Master of Sanctity Mortimer, headquarters, of the Revilers chapter. Inquisitor Malekai has sent for assistance, and we have arrived. May I speak with him?” behind him, marines in the same black armour gathered around. The other drop pods also opened, and out stepped two more squads of marines, five terminators wrapped in sheets of ceramite and plasteel. They weilded huge thunderhammers with shafts wider then the biggest sororitas’ arm.
The final pod opened, and out stepped, a collective gasp from the sisters, an ancient. 5 meters tall, weilding tank busting duel lascannons and a terrible assault cannon. He took two steps out, shattering the long-suffering courtyard cobblestones. “Greetings young amazons.” It said in a mechanical voice, “I am venerable brother Krothim. We are here to orginize your evacuation from these doomed streets.” With that, he started orginizing the marines into a perimiter defense.
“Please, bring me to the Inquisitor. I must be brought to speed on the situation on the ground.” Said chaplain Mortimer.
Katrina stepped forward and said gravely “The inquisitor is hurt and unconcious. Our cannoness, Briana, is extremely wounded and close to death. Both are out of action after our battle with the traitor PDF forces. How such scum could summon a Bloodthirster is beyond…”
“Wait, a Bloodthirster? A Bloodthirster!?! This more serious then we thought. It’s a wonder you managed to destroy the beast! I assume, then, that you are in charge for now?”
“Yes,” said Katrina “And we have been in constant fighting since they arrived, almost a month ago. What my sisters and I need right now is some time for prayer, food…and sleep.”
“Of course. I first must adress your congregation.” Said Mortimer. He turned to the rest of the sisters, and continued; “there was a communications blackout from the cursed traitors interferance. You all know the situation on the ground, but the rest of the hives and my chapter in space knows nothing of it. For now, I must see what resources you have and how we can evacuate you all. Katrina, take your charges. I will go to the chapel and see the Inquisitor and the Cannoness.”
Mortimer looked around the ruined courtyard, and inspected the rest of the spire. He saw the ruined large landing pad ****her down, wreckage and hundreds of bodies smashed around the lower levels of the spire. The smaller landing pad in the back of the chapel had no chance of carrying a a thunderhawk. Was no way they can land heavier equipment or orginize an evacuation from there. It seemed that any marines landing on the spire are on a one way trip in a drop pod.

OOC:zomg writing this is so much fun. hope ur likin it as much as i am

“Inquisitor? Lord Inquisitor, are you awake?” Malekai awoke looking into the face of death. He startled and almost fell off of the bead. Death reached down to steady him, saying “Don’t be frightened Malekai, you’ve only just recovered from your fight with the deamon. He reached up and took off the death’s head skull mask, typical of space marine Chaplains. “I am Master of Sanctity Mortimer, Headquarters, of the Astartes Revilers Chapter. I am here with the 4th battle company and a contingant of the 1st company. Myself and Chapter Master Larendul are in charge. We received your astropaths message two days ago. Luckily we had just dropped out of warp a subsector away to refuel. Do you understand?”
Malekai nodded weakly. “Br…Briana?”
Mortimer looked over at the stricken Cannoness. “she is gravely injured, but stable. I have our Apothacary working on her as best he can. She is still unconcious. We can move her if we had a vehicle, but all of yours were destroyed by the traitors and we cannot land any of our heavies. The Lord Mayor of the neighboring hive has informed me of what has transpired right up until the larger landing pad was destroyed. When you recover fully, you can tell me the rest.”
Malekai attempted to reply, but fell limply back into darkness.

Mortimer walked out of the Chapel entranceway into the main courtyard. Sororitas were sprawled all around the sides, eating, sleeping, and otherwise resting for the evacuation. How they were going to evacuate he had yet to figure out. This small position had no maps of the hive, so he had to wait until Malekai had awakened again. “Brother Kothrim. Report.”
The Dreadnaught, brother Kothrim, turned to him and replied mechanically “the landing is going accourding to plan. We have two landspeeder squadrens circiling the spire checking for movements down below. We have landed 40 more Brothers on the spire, two devestator and two assault to add to the three tactical, myself, and the first company Brothers. There is not enough room for more drop pods, but we have the Thunderhawks hovering low and the Brothers can rappel down after dropping equipment crates.”
Around him, devestators loaded plasma charges into their cannons and fed ammunition belts into heavy bolters. Assault squads, bereft of their jet packs for maneuvering in the tight streets, took positions in rubble piles preparing to ambush any comers.
“Honoured Astarte?” Katrina said, “Lord Malekai is awake. Our sisters hospitalitor say he is fit for duty. He is coming to speak with you.”
“Thank you sister, understood.”
Malekai walked over to Mortimer and greeted him. He went into detail about what had taken place since the invasion, debriefing the Astarte with anything he asked. “what about other landing zones. Don’t you have another starport?” asked Mortimer.
“Aye we do,” Malekai replied, “And its not far off. However, it’s a wide open killing ground. To get there, we would have to pass the Governers Palace, which Crot has overrun and made his headquarters on the planet. It is the closest one though.”
“Very well then. There is were we make our escape. Once we are clear, our ships can annihilate this damned city from orbit, cleansing any taint amongst the populace and summarily destroying any remaining forces of chaos.”
“Agreed.”

ok i had to take a break from writing because i had finals for school. studying and all. but here u go! glad u like it.

The combined forces of the Order of the Ardent Soul and the Revilers chapter prepared to make their escape from the doomed hive. The Revilers made up the spearhead of the formation, with Chaplain Mortimer, Lord Malekai, and Sister Katrina in front of the formation. The Sororitas ringed the formation with the surviving civilians and severely wounded, which included the still unconcious Cannoness Briana, in the center. Two Revilers assault squads brought up the rear. The landing zone, in which the thunderhawks could land safely and extract the survivors, was not very far off. The danger was that it was close to were Crot Skulltaker, deamon prince of the invaders, had made his headquarters in the governers palace.
The mass of men, supermen, and woman marched off towards safety or damnation. As they walked through the battleground were they had defeated the trecherous PDF forces, the hardened defenders looked down upon the warped and mutilated men with grim expressions. The civilians, however, were not so weathered to battle and many looked sick or vomited on the massacered corpses. They walked down the long, single, steep avanue that lead from the spire to the rest of the hive. Surprisingly, there were no World Eaters at the bottom waiting to pounce. Mortimer looked past, deeper into the hive. The streets ahead narrowed into a dark, rubble and body strewn hell. That was the most direct course to the Starport. Another street went from east to west. If they turned onto it, it would lead directly in front of the Palace or far from the port. He turned to Malekai, and asked, “Should we risk it? Perhaps Crot has forgotten us…false hope I’m sure.”
“No,” replied Malekai, “Though the streets ahead are prime for ambushes, it seems less dangerous. We will be walking into the lions den either way. We’ve no choice.”
As the streets leveled out, his prediction was correct. As the convoy of humanity walked across the wide plaza, they looked toward the Palace. A mass of red and brass shifted and trod toward them, and in their midst stood a being more then twelve feet tall. Huge horns jutted from its head, and its face was warped into a bestial mask. It was clad in huge red armour, with spiked jutting out along the leg and shoulders. In between the armour plates was a thick, gore slick hide. Seemingly fused to the armour as if they were one being. Crot the Skulltaker, for it was he, unsheathed his huge, two handed glaive. Raising it above his head, he yelled something which they could not understand at the distance. The forces of Khorne lept forward, gunning the engines of their war machines and unleashing a thick plume of black smoke. The fel horde moved with renewed swiftness at seeing their hated enemy.
“By the Emporer…” whispered Katrina, “how can we stand against such a being!”
“Stand? We arent ones for foolish, hopeless stands young one.” Said Mortimer
“Aye lass,” said Malekai. He turned to the defenders and yelled, “Run! Stay together but by the Emporer make haste! Fall, and be left behind!”
they advanced across the plaza and dove into the narrow street in front of them. Korthrim stopped, and turned to his devestators and said, “We can delay them. Their armour moves in front of their infantry in their blood frenzy. Blocking these streets will force their vehicles to take the longer way around.” With that, he turned back at the buildings at the entrance and shot his lascannons and rocket launchers at the base. The devestators, taking his lead, opened fire with their own rocket launchers. Swiftly, the ancient building leaned forward and collapsed in a heap of twisted metal. Their job done, they rejoined the swiftly moving force.
They had a lead on the main chaos force, but those were not the only forces of khorne in the dark hive. Out of the many allyways and doorframes sprung many bands of cultists, PDF forces, and even bands of World Eaters. Most were cut down swiftly but the traitor marines cut a swathe through the sisters that ringed the spearhead. Mortimer redeployed his veteran assault troops and soon the attacks lessened their toll. “Excuse me honoured lords, but I must speak with you” spoke a Sister Hospitallitor.
“what is it?” said Malekai.
“Briana. Our haste is worsening her already serious condition. Though we were not sure she would recover in the first place, this will make sure of it. We must slow down or she will certainly die.”
“Leave her then. Administer the Emporers mercy.” Malekai replied coldly. Katrina gasped, and Malekai turned to her and said, “We must risk all of our lives for hers! This decision pains me, but it must be done, believe me. Tell your charges Katrina. I am sorry”
The small band of Sisters Hospitalitor took Katrinas streacher off to the side. As the band marched past, a crying Sister removed Katrinas armour and weapons and took them off in a large chest. Another layed a tank of promethium, fuel for a flamer, on her chest. They stepped back and raised a bolt pistol. “Not the pyre she would have expected,” sighed one.
Three World Eaters, axes slick with blood, lept out of the building closest to the band. Kortrim, who had been watching the proceedings, reacted quickly. As the Sisters ran back, he unleashed several rockets at the closing traitors. Missle and Traitor collided right above the fallen cannoness. An explosion rocked the street. “I think she would have liked that one, don’t you?” said Korthrim metallicaly. The sisters looked at each other in bewilderment. If the dreadnaught had a face, they would swear he would be grinning right now.
The Order of the Ardent Soul sung sad hymnals for their fallen mistress as the force marched on toward the Starport.

Several hours had passed since Brianas death, and the sisters had fallen into a sullen silence. The sporadic attacks by bands of chaos fighters had been ongoing, but the blockade created by Korthrim and his devestators had delayed Crot’s main force. However, as they grew closer to the startport they began to hear faint chanting and roars of engines echoing in the hives deserted streets. Many of the force had fallen during the march. Injured fighters who did not succumb were forced to be carried by comrades to avoid falling behind, a certain death sentence.
Meanwhile, as they marched on, events outside of the city worsened. The space marines had landed most of their forces and, together with the guardsmen on the planet, created a blockade to contain the chaos forces. However, the forces of Khorne began to concentrate their attacks. Trenches dug by the PDF forces in the blockage ran with blood as frenzied traitor marines hacked down screaming guardsmen. Space marines would rush in and drive off the traitors, but there were not enough of them. Soon, an armoured spearhead consisting of three land raiders and a dozen rhinos broke through, heading for a large, deserted munitions plant. Talon fighters swarmed over the area, preventing arial attacks. Soon, the talons abandoned the area. However, the chaos tanks had disapeared from the scanners of the Revilers battle barge, the Dark Redemption. A regiment of PDF forces swarmed the area, but reported that nothing had been found.
“Look! The Starport!”
The huge structer loomed over the surrounding buildings. Nearly all of the defense lasers had been destroyed or had burned out, and the remaining ones were out of power. The landing pad structure itself was a huge circle, large enough for an imperial navy cruiser to land. A quarter of the structure was a huge ramp, but much of it was cluttered with burnt out shells of unidentifiable vehicles. Katrina reported “this is were the chaos forces landed much of their elite forces. High in the hive, so they could swiftly kill the governer and his command structure. Their plan worked. We must be wary, however, many heratics are no doubt still looting this area.”
The force moved up the gently sloping ramp. Weapons out and guns cocked, they advanced warily. As they neared the top, Mortimer hailed the Dark Redemption “Chapter Master Larendul. We are ready for extraction. Send the thunderhawks.”
They cleared the crest, and stared out at the flat landing pad, and stopped with a gasp. A huge pyramid of skulls had been piled in the center. Around it, traitor marines danced in a crazed bloodlust waving their weapons in the air. One of them, seeing the assembled servents of the Emporer, called a halt. He wore two gauntlets, and no helmet. His armour had chaos runes drawn in blood all over it, and a symbol of khorne had been carved into his forhead. He grinned as he walked forward, and Mortimer saw that his teeth had been filed into sharp points. “So, you’ve finnally arrived to play,” the champion said. “nice of you to finally arrive. Your skulls shall make our tribute to khorne much more laudable.” With a laugh, his lightning claws unsheathed themselves from his gauntlets with a crackle of energy. The rest of the chaos forces also sprang forward. The two forces erupted with battlecries and sounds of fighting. Mortimer swiftly unslung him Crozius and pressed the activation rune. He emptied his bolt pistol clip at the approuching champion of chaos, with no effect. The champion swiped at Mortimers head, who ducked under it and thrust forward with his Crozius. He smashed into the champions chest plate, which buckled and threw him back. Mortimer, chanting linities of battle, stalked his fallen enemy. He got up, servo moters in his armour whining loudly. Mortimer sprang at him, and the champion blocked the deadly mace. “Blood for the Blood God!” yelled the champion, and he knocked away the Crozius and body slammed Mortimer, who lept aside. The champion crashed down, his head cracking against the plasteel plates. Mortimer put his heavy boot on the back of the traitors neck, and drew his bolt pistol, and sent the fallen marine to the hell he richly deserved. Glancing around, Mortimer saw that his forces had pushed back the chaos forces. Squads of Sororitas herded the bezerkers into larger clumps, then backed off and allowed other squads to cut them down with bolter fire. Soon, it was all over.
Mortimer took a closer look around at the landing pad. In the far end, chaos dreadclaws and corrupted thunderhawks lay grouped together. Three thunderhawks screamed overhead, and landed close to the entrance. Malekai said “send the wounded and civilians first. Get them to safety.”
The back hatches of the thunderhawks slammed down, and were loaded with wounded and the 50 civilians who remained. They lifted off, and sped away toward the nearest hive. However, above the roar of thunderhawk engines, chanting could be heard. The main chaos force drew close! Soon, they could be seen at the bottom of the ramp. Mortimer ordered the remaining forces to the cluster of chaos landing vehicles. Korthrim, however, could not fit into the tight spaces. “no matter,” he stated, “the traitors shall see their end either way.” The venerable brother shot two missles into the pile of heads, vaporizing them. His devestators took up positions on top of the chaos thunderhawk closest to him.
“Dark Redemption, this is Mortimer. We have taken up positions on the far end of the landing pad. The main chaos force closes in, and we have a small, secure area, space enough for only one thunderhawk. We shall be forced to make a fighting withdraw. This will be the chapters finest hour. Pray for us.” Mortimer closed the vox channel.
Malekai stood before the assembled forces. “Men and Woman of the Imperium, you are the finest warriors we have to offer. We will make these traitors pay before we make our escape. Now, ready your weapons and steel your souls.”
The sisters started a hymnal of supremacy, as Mortimer lead the Revilers in the Litanies of Hate. The Chaos tanks cleared the ridge.
