Default castle

This castle i had originally done for a school project but i learned alot about building scenery from it and it actually turned out pretty nice.

One of the pictures is in mid-assembly and the other is fully painted. While i was assembling it i did in fact keep it not exactly to, but almost to warhammer scale. Its just big enough to be abke to put men on the ramparts and fit cavalry bases through the gate. if you look really slosely youll be able to tell i used Brettonian parts to embelish parts of it.

to make a stone texture on the walla i simply covered every inch of it with card panels so it would look good when drybrushed. I also sprinkled sand throughout and on the ramparts to make it look older. For the mote i used water effects and ofcourse the whole thing was based on foamcore. The walls themselves were made of thick artboard backing. When i ran out of that i used foamboard-like the kind you mount school projects on(trifolds etc). But you have to be careful with it because i found that it warped much more easily and as a result the back wall looks kinda funny up close.

As i painted i drybrushed several layers of Codex Gray followed up by Fortress Gray, as well and barely some Skull White. To make it look older i dabbed on some chestnut ink sparringly, as well as drybrushing some Dark Angels Green in a vertical way throughout.

Before i was really very afraid to do any kind of major scenery and i when i tryed i never got it done. I really must thank school for this one, because for school i actually continued working on this just so i could get it done by the due date(i was working on it that morning ) I learned so much from it i think im going to make a much bigger castle as part of a fully modeled terrain board so that its actually to scale and fully playable and so that the walls arent cut off. I just hope i dont get lazy about it

Add-On Commentary:
O yeah, and as you can see the thing on the left wall is a weapons mount with "sharp things" poking out for extra fortification and im not sure you can tell by the picture but there are in fact arrow loops at the top. (One of the terms i learned in our medievel times unit)

Looks pretty neat! I'm not a WHFB player myself, but I know and appreciate a well-painted and put together piece of scenery when I see one!

Well, its probably alot easier to use if you know what youre doing lol as for me . . .um . . . lets not go there lol . . .

elaborating a bit on that, if you build a moat ,it may seem obvious but dont build an open ended moat like i did. Water effects itself um . . .i didnt buy the GW brand but the GW brabd although much more expensive looks like it squirts out of something similair to glue rather than unscrewing the whoe top abd pouring it out. So i would prefer Games Workshops one as far as controlability is concerned
