plastic rod and the metric system - 40K Terra

yo to you all

i'm trying to buy some plastic rod of the net but i can only find stuff with measurements listed in imperial units, and being a metric thinker i have no idea that they mean. could someone explain the following dimentions to me in mertic measurements?...

lol! seriously, i had the same trouble when i made my bid plasticard order a few months back.

i ordered the D_C way - randomly! lol

1 inch is 2.54 centimetres

so .04 is roughly 1mm, .08 is about 2mm and .10 is 2.5mm?

Thats about right.
What exactly are those measurements for? They seem mighty small...

...If your confused about this you should try designing an urban terrain field on a 6x4 foot board using a program that has ALL measurement in mm (no matter how big the measurement)...

Try working on an aircraft that has both Imperial and Metric bolts on it! And then to confuse matters even more some of the bolts have a different thread system to the others!!

the width i used on my terminator spear poles is 0.08 shaved down because, for some reason no plasticard supplier i found makes 0.07 which would have been perfect, just my luck.

ok cool, thats good to know. i'm mostly gonna be using this stuff for weapon shafts and extending the wheel mounts on sm bikes.

well, the spokes should be at last 0.10, probably bigger depending on whether you want them to look heavy duty or not.

and regarding the weapon shafts, it depends on the models - empire spearmen and marines would have different thicknes poles, though im assuming youll be using them for the space wolfs I (by assuming i may be making an ass out of you and m..ing), in which case 0.08 shaved down would be good for termies, and 0.06 might be ok for normal troopers and things like axes

yeah this is for the wolves. the spokes will be using the bigger size, mostly .10 with a bit of 1/8. the weapon shafts will be at least .06, probably .08 and partially sheathed in gs for grips and stuff.

if you plan on covering them with gs, i suggest .06. and score the rod with a knife before applying te GS so it has something to adhere to, othewise it will just slide all over the thing

also yahoo, i must recomend that you pin the rods. they will stick pretty well with polystyrene cement, though a pin running through one side of the weapon, the hand and the pole and any other parts where two different bits meet will ensure a really strong bond... great if youre as clumsy as i am when painting your models!

I've done that, and it seems to hold just fine. However most of my friends seem convinced that way ensures a weaker bond for some reason. I just us a bit longer pin length inside the pole than usual and it all goes well.

Fihine yahoo. ill stop trying to help. theyll stick fine without pinning but pinning is your insurance, so to speak. its not infallible, though is more than enough in most cases

i just use one long pin that goes all the way through

Fantasy and 40k are all inches,
as well as most of the specialist games.

Inquisitor measurements are in yards but these are represented by whatever scale is appropriate for you (1yard = 1inch/cm etc)

LOTR has measurements in both imperial and metric.
