Default A ruined building tutorial

OK here we go.

What you need.
Some hardboard for the base
Foamboard(Foamcore) for the walls
Some old sprues
Some card
Plaster
PVA, paint.
Clamps

Before I start showing you how I made it, I think I had better show 'it' first.

The building is a basic design, it can be used for any period.

----------------------
Sorry, I've just discovered that I'm not allowed more than eight images so I'll just give you a link to the rest of the tutorial.

Hey, thats good. The first floor looks really realistic and the way you painted the stone is excellent.

good work dude. the only thing i'm not feelin is the wall on the upper floor, the curve seems too natural and neat to be the result of battle damage. other than that , i like a lot.

I like the look of that building! I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to scenery, so I need to read some tutorials...

i agree with the 'moose, the curve on the ruined wall sems too natural. some brick shapes or more ragged edges would look better as would some more loose-looking rubble on the floor and ceiling.

though it looks cool. good work

Yeh, if it had been an explosion that had caused the break in the wall it would look rougher and more, well, out of place.
I still think its good though.

Like the stone look, very realistic. The curve tho in the upper wall should be more ragged.

One thing I found incredibly helpful for making "quick, cheap and dirty" buildings are foam ice chests: they can be found at most supermarkets/liquor stores for a couple bucks and with some sand and black primer, they can be melted down to look like blasted buildings. The nice thing is, you can usually cut the ones I've found at about the half way mark and flip the lid over and put it down on the bottom half... instant removable roof. A little extra paint, and voila - for less then 20 bucks you got yourself a handful of buildings and walls. EDIT: Added photos. I know they're not amazing pieces of art, but I figured it's a neat idea and quick enough...

yea the nice thing about those foam chests is that the very same thing that makes them bad if you are going to paint them to look like natural buildings makes them great for ruined buildings. cut a hole here and a broken piece there. and the paint does the rest.

Do this
1 go to the store
2 buy a chest
3 put some weight in it( like one pound of sand or kitty litter)
4 drop it off a three story building
5 pick up the pieces
6 spray paint and paint extra heavy around breaks and cracks

and BOOM ruined building little effort and very natural damage.
