Ive recently come across some rumours that GW has given up on dark eldar and are going to phase them out(similar thing happened to chaos dwarfs) as a DE player i was distressed by this, so im interested if anyone has heard anything about this.

Though I do not play the Evil Eldar and have never fought them, I would be shocked and angry if they did. They need to be there! If they haven't included them in the Eldar Codex to modify your normal Eldar force to make DE, I would hope that they wouldn't erase them.

However, if they don't make money, they're liable to do anything. Actually, I could see making them online-store-only as a first step...

I hope there's riots in the streets.

I see it two ways. If they do go away; they will obviously go out with a bang due to the fluff and all that stuff. probably a caimpaign where the Primarch that went into the webway has finally resurfaced and knows where the city is. however for this to happen the entire GW staff would have to be high.

The other way is they are redoing all of the models and the codex and are getting ready for some massive blowout. i believe that GW is pretty upset that the models are just so butt ugly that they might want to take another wack at it.

I think:

GW should revive DE and revamp them.

They represent a 'different' army compared to your typical shoot or armor armies already out there. They are the piratical raiders who hit with speed and agression and takes prisoners alive and they do it with their own style.

there ae persistent rumours (coming for Gav himself) that they have not forgotten about chaos dwarves and will redo then, though this will be in 2-3 years time.

i dont think theyll be phased out, but ido expect a major overhaul, with posibly a different look and models that are actually good!

I guess all we can do is hope and keep an eye out for any news on DE in the future, i have heard the year 2008 mentioned about a possible release of the new DE.

Yes the haemonculi models have stood the test of time and came out on top. If the DE do get re-released i think the haemonculi should get crazy new wpns and wargear, although the destructor and stinger are still pretty sweet.

id actually like to see what flavour the army will have - which new direction (if any) GW will take them, how their look will change, and how their background will be expanded and elaborated upon

First thing would be getting rid of those awful warrior helmets! But yeah GW didnt really delve deep into their background, yes piratical raiders and a sadistic offshoot of the eldar, well actually they just continued on the decadent path of the eldar. But hey its better to be damned then being a part of an impotent race(craftworld eldar) who arent even allowed to make sweet love cause of the risk to their precious souls.

DE will not be dropped, there is much evidence to support this

1) gav made a comment at a games day discussion about the dark eldar codex revamp being in the planning phase

2) in some WD, it said that the guy working on the new eldar codex is now 'up to his ears in dark eldar'

3) if they were dropped, they would have been banned from medusa V, and general tournaments all around

no they won't be dropped.
but they probably wont get revisited till at least mid 2008, there's just that many things on the line up before DE

i think the rumours started that they would be dropped cause NOONE PLAYS THEM!!! ive seen >>1<< dark eldar player in real life. one!! thats just wrong. this is probrobly cause their codex is so old, and as soon as they get a revamp, people will consider them more. i mean, look what happened to regular eldar! as soon as the new codex came out, people looking for a new army got eldar fever. its a deadly desease that can only be cured by ripping off your power armour and donning frilly, useless armour and picking up a dart gun.

HAHAHA. okay honestly...i'm sure someone noticed the tau rage when the tau empire codex and the new models came out. UGH everyone and their kitchen sink played tau! suckiness lol. as for me, i will keep my power armor...:]

i've seen one dark eldar player in my life, but i don't think they'll cut DE because it's also one of the most powerful/most crazy armies in 40K. haha i think i've read about games where DE can cut down an entire army on the first turn-ridiculous. sure, you might have to be amazingly tactically skilled, and have a ton of good rolls, but dang man...lol

I would kick GW in the face if they sent a letter like that. And if they killed off DE. I have never played against them, but I almost don't want to because I've heard the horror stories about their speed and nastiness.

But I still want them to be around. Like Orks, they merely need a big update (perhaps bigger than Orks, so that the DE have goals other than "get slaves"...)

but why. WHY. why did GW come out with the new TAU codex before the new dark eldar, ork, or eldar ones. they were created not 2 years before that!! how many problems with the rules could there be?!?!
thinking too hard about things like that could drive you insane.

Business reasons. Tau were selling, add the a new codex and more tau sell. DE aren't selling, add a DE codex and they MIGHT sell. And, as it is, the few people that do play DE kick ass.

I've heard there one of the nastiest armies to use, but as the models suck (which, unfortunately, most of them do) no one uses them. Thats a shame I suppose.

regarding the models, I have seen in the GW i go to, someone is converting dire avengers and regular gardians into dark eldar using dark elf warrior parts, and grosteques from possesed CSM bitz. theyre so awsome!

why are the models SO ugly. They are a bunch of hedonistic fools. so i figure all that mating and such would lead to slim figures and beauty sort of like the dark elves but there i go again when i know the dark eldar are not like the dark elves

the largest similarity is their main goal:

step one: attack
step two: get slaves
step three: ????
step four: profit!
