Exclamation PREVIEW: Warhammer 40k Squad Command : DS & PSP Game

PREVIEW: June 19th, 2007
Release Date: TBA Autumn 2007
PSP & DS

By Ikarus

Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command marks the first time that the brutal, war-ravaged world of Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 universe will be playable on the Nintendo DS. Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command features fast, action-packed combat through turn-based strategy and an engaging, authentic single-player storyline.

Dead marines everywhere, so where is squad to command?

Gamers play as the elite Space Marines of the Ultramarines chapter and strive to combat the encroaching evil of the ruthless and daemonic influenced Chaos Space Marines through 13 cinematically-tied missions. With a robust multiplayer mode featuring 9 unique missions, gamers will team up and go head-to-head with other gamers worldwide as either the Imperium of Man or Chaos Space Marines, ensuring hours of unique replayability.

Looks like Dawn of War Portable - Squad sized.

Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command will also fully utilize all the portable functionality of the Nintendo DS, including the dual-screen and stylus, bringing the Warhammer 40,000 universe to life on handheld.
  • Compelling single player game consisting of 13 unique missions
  • 9 unique multiplayer maps for Local or Global games, with small, medium and large map variants to cater for games from 2 to 8 players
  • Fully destructible, real time 3D battlefields mean that no two games will be the same
  • Pick from two Space Marine chapters or two Chaos Space Marine Legions to play as in Multiplayer games, in battles between Imperium vs. Imperium, Forces of Chaos vs. Forces of Chaos, or Imperium vs. Forces of Chaos
  • Over 20 ranged and close combat weapons taken directly from the Warhammer 40,000 universe, including the Bolter, Plasma Gun, Chainsword and Power Fist

A statistical death, how enjoyable.

FREAKING AWESOME!

But, you know what really bugs me... I THOUGHT OF THIS FIRST!!!!!!

Yes, yes, I know it sounds dumb to say that... but the problem with being a 15 year old who has only completed his first year of High School is that I can't make video games... yet.

Anyways... I'll be picking this game up for my DS this Christmas.... it looks sweet.

Who's making it?

Kind of looks a bit like chaos gate to me but that was still a cool game I'll be looking forward to this coming out.

I despise the new DS, so I doubt I will be playing this.

i think THQ is...didn't they make the dawn of war games also? hmm..i think it's an interesting idea, but it seems to be turn based? i'm not a huge fan of turn based combat [with the exception of pokemon and some of the FF series], only because i feel that it takes too long. haha, but still, i think it would be interesting.

more than two forces per side to choose from would be nice though, but i'm not gonna complain too much :]

and erus, why don't you like the new DS? :]

THQ doesn't actually make games IIRC. They produce them, and then make sure that the game is carried by various stores (Walmart, EBgame, Amazon) and make sure those companies have all the copies that they bought on the release date. All they actually pay for the game and reap a major amount of the profits. Dawn of War was produced by THQ but developed (made) by Relic Entertainment... a Canadian video game studio company.

And Erus, yes, why don't you like the "new" ds, which I would assume is the DS Lite, I bought one last summer to replace my old and semi-broken GBA from way back... I like it alot. The only thing I would like is the ability to play GB color games, but those are so old its really not that big of a deal.

It's essentially not that much more than any other gameboy, and the addition of the stylus screen was totally un-nessecary?

Have you ever played a DS the stylus and 2nd screen are completely necessary! They make it unique and fun

Well we don't have to go into a deep discussion about DS and such.

I just see the DS as an upgraded unit either way. You can use the stylus if you want, but then again you dont have to (unless the game is required to). The two screens provide some good gaming as you can make use of the screens instead of one screen. Sometimes the stylus is also handy.

Of course its not needed, but this is nintendo. They want to appeal to the majority with innovation.

Ya, the DS is not like the GBA... the second screen adds extra info and makes the game easier to play (instead of opening up an option menu). I have two games for mine, Age of Empires 2 and X-men III (which my brother bought). I played both, for Age of Empires the stylus is unnecessary and not really useful for it. However, for X-men III the Stylus is needed, and it makes the game interesting... not necessarily better, but fun.

Oh, and remember, you have the option for Wireless Online Play!

Dunno, only reason i'd buy a DS is for pokemon games, store hella on an sd card, my friend has one cartridge and it holds like 60 somethin games.

PSP is sooo good though. Play metal gear acid, another great turn based game. I can't wait for this.

nowwww someone download the demo

http://www.thq-games.com/uk/news/show/2907

and here's free internet for 6 months

Sci-fi type, and 40k games in general, seem to not do so well in reviews. I rarely go by the reviews. Paid professionals are just that: paid. When Daikatana came out, it was hyped to the extreme by reviews. And it was a steaming pile of excrement. Play the game, give it a chance, or ask real people. People who get paid to do it tend to get skewed opinions after a period of time, more so than regular gamers even.

Ehh some user reviews aren't so good.

I'm thinking of Katamari Damacy though, that was a breakout hit right? small little game.

The sci fi thing, are your crazy? lol. There are soooooo many good sci fi games. original doom, halo, kotor, half life 2, in fact i think they do better than most games

And dawn of war did good, lots of good reviews

Still i might buy this. BUT, in a while, and used. I never buy new
