i would just like to point it out that the pc is a better system then any console could ever imagine.

if you try to upgrade a ps3 you risk destroying it. upgrading a computer is easy as 1,2,....uhh *bzzzt* oh what the hell was that?

however it has been proven time and time again that the key board and mouse is the better of the two controllers.


sorry i just happen to hate consoles because they force you to go out and buy a 600 american dollar machine every two years and your old games wont work on it (even if they say it can)

Why bother upgrading a PS3, its got graphics as good as a high end PC for only $600

Every two years? The PS2 is like 5 years old. And, mind you 600 dollars is still cheaper than a new computer evey 2-5 years, which, is about as often as you have to upgrade to keep up with the industry.

PC > consoles in FPS, (some) RPG, definitely MMO, and definitely RTS

and 40k MMO wouldn't work, because considering the background how do you 1) progress the ranks/story 2) balance the classes at least somewhat
we all know everyone wants marines, and in MMO there's no way to use guard "numbers" to an advantage, because each guard is a player not a squad. Balance issues would be huge. It's not a case of "ok healers dont do damage and tanks dont do healing so its balanced" its a case of "guards players shoot ppl and wear armour. Space marines shoot people 100x better and wear 100x better armour". Include other races into that and it will be a mess. Not include other races and it will be hugely disappointing

problems such as that prohibit a successfull (both economic and gameplay wise) MMORPG made for 40k.

FANTASY is much easier because the way you can actuall pick classes and ranks and progress.

I have to agree with MS, the pc has proven to be a far better platform than any of the current consoles. Alienware computers are already surpassing the capabilities of the XBOX360 and Playstation 3. And with a pc you can have mmo's, on a console you cant, servers cant get that big on a console.

PCs are more powerful, yes, but the point of consoles is so yo DONT worry about compatibility, upgrading and all that stuff, and plus the system is small, dedicated and optimised, and much less in costs than any mostly-decent gaming rig.

I agree, so we have established that all systems have strengths and weaknesses. I for one believe as we the consumers are the getting the short end of the stick. For a decent PC your lookin at 1200-2000 dollar cost and with any console from 450-700, it would seem we have no simple and cost effective means of enjoyment these days.....

Yet my PC is equal to an Xbox 360? And this is true, with a few simple, CHEAP upgrades. There are plenty of Internet sites out there that can get you normally £200 upgrades for around £100. My sister built her computer, and it cost her £600. If she had bought it standardly in a shop, with the same spec, it would have cost £1200. No lies.

Back on topic, It depends on what sort of MMO they bring out.. because an MMO can come in many different forms..

Warhammer online is supposed to be coming along well actually. I talked to my math teachers son who works as co-lead production manager on it in fact. He says the higher ups say that it'll be out late May or early June of 08. Thats kinda far i know, but it is a mmo.

i strongly doubt it will have much in common with wow. the skill based system like that dosnt seem to fit. as far as being squad based every mmo is squad based you are supose to play with opther people in groups. not solo for a month straight for max xp(so lame). i guessing it will be a mix of starwars galaxies and halo. every world you travel to will be a mass scale battle feild raging all around sort of thing with bases and outposts to visit. and ther will be missions for you to complete and gain rank. and if you dont want to do missions you can just go up to the front lines and try and survive. im most curios as to how they are going to set up the classes and races. guessing it will be imperium vs Xeno posably chaos being a 3rd faction.eather way i hope vigil gets its collective asses in gear!

For an MMO especially, PCs are dominant.

I dont think they are overpriced.

I think they are underpriced.


You think about it -

The 360 has been our for a year or two. It can handle any game it has with ease.

Your pc 2 years ago- bring it up to today's standards, will need an upgrading.

This means you have to spend more money.

This means you pay more than a 360 just on a few parts, and the 360 is still standing strong without any slowdowns.

Same with PS3.

My computer is from 2002, I just keep it up to date.

And if they make an MMO for a console, it's guaranteed to suck.

There will be way too many limitations on everything from content to game mechanics to graphics to in-game socializing, and so on and so forth.

The only MMO for a console was Phantasy Star, if I'm correct, and that failed miserably. They basically had to re-release the game in a sequel form which was single player only.

Oh, and Final Fantasy 11 for PS2, which also didn't do well.

The most plausible location for a 40K MMO to be set would be a Hive City/Planet.
Simple as.

None of this rubbish of figuring out complicated to make but simple to use mechanics and reasons from going from one warzone to another. Just plain simple Hive living and dying.


I think a funky game for the future would be a free-roaming (not MMO, more in a vein similar-ish to the GTA games) game where your something like an inquisitor or a hive ganger or some-such.

Also, a Star Wars Battlefront style game would be brilliant.



P.S. Consoles are not of the same value for money as a PC - you don't buy a PC just for gaming, you use it for everything. And at a damn site better value and longer active life span than consoles!

The fact of the matter is that when you look solely at games you can still play virtually any PC game on your computer, all you need is a reasonable graphics card. Heck, i didn't get the top graphics card when i got my computer three years back, but look, its still well within the range of most new releases for several years to come.

If anything the only problem with a PC is that some of the oldest games won't work because they're looking for 8-bit sound cards, something that hasn't existed for many years now, but the game can't identify a 64-bit sound card, cos they didn't exist back then. (okay, those figures are on the fly, but you get the point.)
