Well, for one thing I don't have enough money for the models, two I live in a smaller area, so there aren't many other people that would play it with me, and three I'm just not really into models that much, can't really explain why. I love most of the novels, particularly Dan Abnett's stuff, and I like the DoW games, although they aren't really that deep compared to some RTS games out there. Above all I think I love reading the lore, like the stuff you find on lexicanum, fluff type stuff.

lol... not as deep... the deepest video game I have played is DOTA... and thats not really an RTS...

RTS game IHMO aren't to deep... tactics are pretty basic...

However, as for modelling/painting... you never would have guessed that I of all people would get into it... yet here I am.

But yes, the lore, above all, is my favorite part of the game.

the books, in themselves are brilliant good. Dan abneet is a good writer too. im currently reading the isenhorn triliogy, and i have to say it a fresh take on inquistors for me. as for the books in general, other than a few i dont think i can point out at something and yell 'its crap!' anyway, welcome to terra, and welcome to the madness!

Fluff addict eh?
You'll find a nice little corner for yourself here.
We have a growing Librarium of background and a very active fan fiction section.

You'll find tonnes of Abnett fans here too.

Leave your sanity behind and don't feed any little blue ravenous aliens.
Have fun...

Thanks all. Got a couple questions though. One, how does one become part of the things you see below poster's names, like Adeptus Custodes, etc.? Is it merit based, or something else? Second, how does the chat thing work? Because I tried to go into the chat app and it wouldn't accept my username and/or password for this site.

Those badges like Adeptus Arbities are staff positions or for members who donate money to run the site.
Here's a quick key.
Emperor- Administrator
Primarch- Co-admin
Adeptus Mechanicus- tech team
Adeptus Arbities- Moderators
High Lord- more powerful form of mod
Adeptus Custodes- they run games in the battlefield 40k
Librarian- they collect and compile background for the Librarium

That's all I can think of right now.
Try registering on the chat again with a slightly different username.
My name has "753" added to it

theyre generally merit based.

i understand what you mean with why you dont like to play. i guess im lucky that i live like, 20 minutes away from glen burnie, the U.S. GW Headquarters!!
not to mention baltimore is the best US games day.
have you read the Horus Herasy novels? its a must!
Dan Abnett or Graham McNeill are my favorite 40k authors.

Don leave out Ben Counter now... He did the Soul Drinkers after all!

I'm a BIG fan of Abnett and Grahm though. BIG.

welcome to 40k terra!! i think you will find the people here are friendly and helpful (though psycotic at times). I enjoy the fluff stuff too, and buy 40k books impulsively. As far as the chatrooms concerned...make sure that you register for it. Its not the same user name and password for 40k terra, though it could be if you wanted

Thanks again for all the warm welcome. I have not yet read the Horus Heresy novels, but I have read everything else you asked about. The reason why I haven't read the Horus Heresy novels is actually a conscious choice of mine, because, well, I just don't generally like prequels. The reason for that is that I know how they inevitably end, in this case with the fall of Horus and the traitor legions into the depths of heresy. So, I suppose one could say that I dislike that the books depict an Imperium falling into strife and civil war, rather than an Imperium in the ascendant.

I can see where you're coming from with the HH novels, however, they may still be worth reading due to the fact that it gives insight into what the imperium was like 10,000 years before 40k. You can see how people, technology, attitudes, etc. change over the course of that many years.

Plus, the books themselves do a handy job of filling in holes and 'what ifs' we all had, eh?
