I went in there wanting an action movie with a minimal plotline. Instead, I got a massive political backstory that took up 50% of the movie and every single fight scene was in slow motion. Plus, all the uber scary villain-esque guys that were in the trailer were only in the movie for like 5 seconds each (i.e., the fat dude with sword arms).

i thought live free or die hard was one of the worst sequals i ever saw
It was ****ing awesome. Best movie I've seen in years. Incredible sequel, and hopefully there will be more.

Ah ok. If I had made the movie, I would have said "Screw History" and added more combat and bloodshed. After that I would have made a sequel where 300 left off with the entire Spartan army. In my perfect world the Sequel would have been three hours of nothing but the Spartans killing the Persians. In a perfect world of course.

The day bruce willis dies is the day my anthro/socio/psych teacher cries =]
Live free or Die hard was GREAT only if you wanted ACTION and nothing else.

I thought the action was crude, jokes as well, and everything was over the top.

BUT it was enjoyable (extremely so) ANYWAY.

Sure a lot of the stuff in the movie wouldn't actually be possible in real life (like the JSF engaging in the way it did. i mean WTF was that?) but it was COOL and it KICKED ASS. That's what really mattered.

and haha "from the guys who saw 300"

The 300 movie was loosely based on the actual event, you have to remember that. The political backstory was fiction, as were the elephants (which had Lord of the Rings written all over them), the deformed villains, and the evilness shown by the Persian empire. The Persians were made villains solely for film (and graphic novel) purposes, which is why so many people got upset when the movie released (because it wasn't true to the actual event at all). It was reminiscent of how the Jews felt about the Passion of the Christ (which also sucked).

Someone told me that all those monster things were how the Greeks portrayed the Persians. I don't know if that has any truth to it though.

Negative.

It was all exaggerated for the graphic novel's story.

Come on guys, you have to understand that 300 was originally a graphic novel: imagine Marvel meets history books.

Basically some comic book guy was like, "You know what? Those Spartan guys from history were cool, but I bet we could make them even cooler. Oh, I know, let's make the Persians super greedy and evil! And they'll have mutants and freaks in their army! Oh, oh, I know, and giant elephants!"

It was loosely based from a real event, but they mixed it with fantasy and fictional elements.

Saying 300 is true to history is like saying Captain America really existed in American history.
