Default the APOCALYPSE! has landed!!!

greetings, greetings all!

well, last night we a "staff meating" which is a fancy way of saying we played a game of apocalypse for 3 hours!

dear god is it total and utter madness!

we had in just super-heavies alone;
imperial forces: 2x baneblade
chaos/ork alliance: 1 baneblade, 2x brass scorpions, 1x reaver titan, 1x big stompa.

okay, so us imperials got absolutely hosed, but we still had a blast! just to give you an idea of some of the mad happenings;
- 1000+ pts of guard drop troops all appearing at once, while being supported by 15 terminators surrounding several ork mods and the chaos reaver titan!
- a baneblade leading a guard armoured spearhead, which was them ambused and ripped to shreads by a single brass scorpion!
- a single salamanders tactical squad holding the faltering imperial line against 2 waves of orky assaults before being over run.
- 20 necrons + necron lord using the viel of darkness to drop right into the middle of the guard artillery position... even the baneblade cannon couldn't keep them down! the necrons spent 3 turns rapid firing all the artilery into oblivion...
- the vortex grenade fizzing out the turn after it was thrown...
- the massive 14" nuclear explosion of a dying baneblade!!! the total casulties were nearby 3 imperial tanks, 8 storm troopers, 8 tactical marines, the stompa's death cannon & 2 pieces of area terrain!
- speaking of the stompa, beware the lifta-droppa!!! it was a laugh watching as it threw our tanks around like toys, but the results are rather painfull! (such as seeing a leman russ demolisher thrown 24" and drop right in fron of an ork dread mob!)

all-in-all, apocalypse is great fun and you'll have to learn and accept that balance is never ment to be a factor! (because nothing about apocalypse really is truely "fair"!!!)

cheers!

O M G
AWESOME
wait a minute

REAVER TITAN?
*Jaw Drops*

Baneblade exploding definitely sounds like the highlight of the game though
along with the massive-drop-landing

EDIT: Woot! this is the kind of absolute mayhem we'd expect
good post

not really... we lost because the chaos/ork alliance played a 1st turn blind barrage that landed right across the entire sight lines of our armoured spearhead!>.< so our armour couldn't shoot 1st turn and then was duely shreaded by that flank marching scorpion...

so lesson for the day; kill the damn scorpion! dear god are they insane little buggers!

i doubt any sons of russ would have been able to top the stoic resistance of those salamanders anyways! who else but the green boyz could have held up the orky push for basically the whole game?!!

cheers!

IIRC, Apocalypse includes full rules for Warhound, Reaver, Warlord and Emperor Class titans - The Emperor titan never appears on the battlefield tho because of its huge size, it lobs shots from off the board.
There are also rules for Ork Stompas, but I don't know if there's rules for any bigger ork titans, I would assume so.
Same goes for Eldar Reverant Titans, again I don't know if there's anything in the way of bigger stuff though.

Also, the Reaver now(or shortly) will have a model, the lovely thing tht they displayed at GD UK, which reminds me, I still havn't posted my tonne of GD picks yet...

From what I've heard, it stops at Warlord, the Emperor class was purely a rumor, though i've heard the odd rumor here and there on Eldar phantom titans being in it, but nothing good enough to bank on. I know VDR isn't IN it, but does Apoc support it.. Something about it linking/suggesting VDR, making it legal for Apoc games? If that is the case, you can just take the rules/profiles for the closest class warmachine/superheavy and mod from there!

a warlord is the biggest imperial/chaos titan you can take... taking a quick read-through of storm of iron during the jouran's failed attempt on the iron warrior's siege lines will give you an idea of why emperor class titans didn't make it into apocalypse! (ie: the dies irae kicks the crap out of 3 reavers & 2 warlords!!!)
a warlord will set you back over 2000pts alone! and it never appears on the board - it's too big to expect most people to model it properly! (mind you, one of our local nut cases is building a properly scaled 40k warlord titan!)

also, if i hadn't rolled double 5's, we would very likely have seen just how deadly a vortex grenade is to even a reaver titan!>.< (stupid me! the scatter was perfectly set-up too.)

cheers!

agrees with above final line.

You should just make it a costume that someone has to wear, be a lot easier probably
There's at least one Warlord (Imperial) owned by GW in the UK that make fairly frequent trips around events such as Conflict Regional and Games Day.
And I just discovered last tuesday to my surprise that it was GW Glasgow who created the 40K-scale Great Gargant that was at Games Day last weekend. Its currently sat in the store against the back wall, taking up most of a 4x6 table.

A warlord, to scale, would only be about 3-4 ft. tall. Not big enough for a costume. An Imperator, to scale, is between 6'1" to 6'4" depending on accounts taken, etc.. A Warlord is about wait/elbow high, so 4 ft, 3.5 is about right.

I know GW built 2 40K scale Warlord Titans long ago when the Emperor's Palace diorama was constructed. 1 Chaos and 1 Imperial, they were pretty awe inspiring, with a Warlord surely it would cost more than 2000pts? the Reaver Titan is 2500pts and I thought they were smaller.

This is apoc though. The prices are likely to have been brought down a little, and if it is never effectively allowed on the table, I can see the pts. dropping, etc..

yeah but in the apoc book a reaver is 2500pts so surely a warlord would be a heck of alot more, like 3500pts or something? not 500pts less!

a small glimpse of the maddness that took place during our "staff meeting"

first one; chaos lord colin remarks about how 'a whole crap-load of stuff is about to die rather horribly!'
http://s141.photobucket.com/albums/r...lypsenight.jpg

and ork warboss abu delights in the firepower the chaos/greenskin alliance has to unleash upon us poor imperials...
http://s141.photobucket.com/albums/r...titandeath.jpg

cheers!

Aahahaha!!
brass scorpion is definatly the best thing to happen to chaos since sliced guardsmen!

flank marching it would be increadibly deadly....you can throw it right into their lines and even when you bring it down itll take out so much stuff....
doomsday reactor FTW!! itll blow up 3d6 ap1 (thats all superheavies btw) on a 2+!

So if you manage to kill it whilst its still amongst its own forces it'll kill a shed load of them? sweet!

"Kill the scorpion thing"
"why not the other stuff sir?"
"Because the scorpion is a special pinata...just filled with explosive fun instead"

well throw a couple of baneblade's worth of ordnance at it, that should put a dent in it. And doesn't it have the rule where every glancing hit is a penetrating one? i forget...

ah just had a look at its data sheet...it adds a 2+ to its rolls on the catastrophic damage table so if you do manage to penetrate it its going to die in a horrible fashion 5 times out of 6
