Dalai Lama to recieve medal and make speech on Great Lawn - 40K Terra

The Dalai Lama will be receiving the Congressional Gold Medal from
Speaker Pelosi, Congressional leadership and the U.S. President in the U.S.
Capitol Rotunda at 1:00. This will be simulcast on a jumbotron onto the West
Lawn of the Capitol. At 2:20, Richard Gere will make a few remarks, and at
2:30, Speaker Pelosi will escort the Dalai Lama from Capitol to the West
Lawn, where he will give an address.

This will be the first time in history that a sitting US President will
publicly appear with a Dalai Lama, and it will happen at the halls of
Congress, who have been so supportive of Tibet over the years.

Before this, from 11:00 - 1:00, Tibetan dance, opera and song troupes
from all over America , will be performing. If you can join for that as well,
feel free to bring a picnic lunch, blanket or folding chair. There will be
about 1,000 Tibetans in D.C. for this and it will be a wonderful and
colorful celebration. Many of the highest lamas and Rimpoches from around
the world will be attending.

No matter who you are, we can all learn something in some way from this man. If for nothing else than sheer historic value to any American on this site, it is worth following. The speech will also be webcasted here tomorrow: http://ict.convio.net/site/PageNavig...t_Lawn_landing

I for one will be watching, as my car probably couldn't reach D.C. . however a friend is attending, and I will post pics and such that he takes here, when I receive them

Yeah, I'm not really happy that for this historic moment it's friggin' Bush who gets the honor.

I hope the Dalai Lama pulls some kung-fu moves and punches him in the face in or something cool.

Current president aside, i'll be listening to the Dalai Lama,not bush. Just hope to god he does't pull any of his 'terror' speeches.

I'm not sure I quite follow??? It's just the Dalai Lama getting a medal from the President.... Actually, from Congress, the president is just presenting/listening to the speech.

Oh my ****, let's just hope Bush doesn't say anything at all.

It would be perfect if he just nodded and gave the award.

I can only imagine the stupid things he'd say.

Most of your religion are Hairy.. all that inner peace, etc.. We had a tibetan monk come to our school one day for Q&A, showed the singing bowl etc.. It was a most interesting session, and I tried like hell to find a way to go to D.C. and listen to the man to speak, but alas I could not. However, I will be watching that web cast.

I am very intrigued, due to the fact that I know of the past history of Tibet (from History class) and knowing what happen to the Dalai Lama and etc.

Well...it didn't exactly help your foreign relations with China, did it? Don't get me wrong, the Dalai Lama's one sound guy. Congress didn't exactly think about the political implications of such a move, did they?

Not only does this damage U.S. foreign relations with China and her closest allies, but, as a direct result, it could be damaging to political campaigns in the U.N., namely Iran.
