Default A Degree in 40k

So what would you have to study to do a degree in 40k and what would it be called?

Discuss....

I think "Future" studies (this is 40000 years in the future...)

It depends what aspect of 40k you want to study. You could study symbology, tactics, history, lots of stuff. Philosophy, but that would probably be about if it was wrong to pray to the Emperor in the bathroom or something because there's not really any religious debate in 40k... from other races, perhaps, but not within the Imeprium...

Biology of Xeno-species. Engineering is out because they don't build new stuff generally... unless "engineering" was Adeptus Mechanicus training...

this just a question...Rosenadel, would debating radical inquisitors count as a religious debate? just wondering :] haha. i hadn't thought of that biology stuff. certainly, some basic knowledge of the xenos species and their backgrounds [history, in a sense...lol history of the future..] would be good as well :]

Well lets see, I'll say the courses but I'm not sure how high in level the courses should be taken:
1.Latin (for all of those fluffy little words)
2.Syntactic Ambiguity (for rules interpretations)
3.Anatomy (to better understand how a Space Marine could be made)
4.Entomology (for Tyranids...etymology is the study of insects)
5.Creative Writing (for fluff)
6.Probabilty (for obvious reasons)
7.Game Theory (wierd stuff there)
8.Psychology (to understand the thought process of a rules lawyer)
9.Economic & Buisness (to be able to produce an intelligent arguement on why GW is running itself into the ground)

That's all I can think of right now. Not sure what to call it but you'd probably have an easier time getting a job than someone with a Polysci. or Humanities degree.

Ah! I had not thought of that! Very good point! Thorians and what-not. Good thinking!

darn strait you could have religous/theological debates, especially within the ranks of the inquisition!
puritan: "burn the book! it's full of evil lies!!!"
radical: "no, read the book you fool! knowledge of the enemy is power!"
puritan: "heretic! your beliefs are tainted by the touch of chaos."
radical: "again with the ignorance..."
see, lots of good fun there!

cheers!

wow that reminds me of the Great Schism, where the Catholic Church had two, and then three Popes and none of them knew what to do, so they accused each other of heresy and being the antichrist. it's kind of sad, in a funny kind of way. horrible for the Catholic Church though..

anyways. lol i'm all on the radical side though.

i'm sure there are also conflicts between chapters [like DA and SW], but i'm not sure if those are necessarily "religious" debates though XD

haha

In our reality at University (or College as the case may be).

Im thinking along the lines of knowledge of the background, histories, relationships as presented in the novels (including characters, locations and events) and the rules system as laid down (through all its evolutions, loopholes and counter arguments) taken to an extreme level.

I think it should be a law degree! That would shut up all those wanna be rules lawyers out there

In that case, I think Law for rules, and History for fluff. Perhaps Literature, too.

Right...so far we have...

-Military tactics and strategy
-Literature
-History (that won't occour for another 28-38 thousand years)
-Law
-Art
-Religious Conflict
-Physiology (and Xenology)
-Entomology
-Mathematics (ranging from simple addition to advanced calculus)
-Latin
-Something that I can't think of the proper name for right now
-Economics

Fething Hell...this puts my Engineering course to shame

Not if I walk around in a red cloak, wrap some tin-foil around my head, chant "All Hail the Omnissah" and call myself the Fabricator Structural.

of course most buildings are ancient, but they were new at some point and they'd need a fair bit of planning IMO

I think the Adeptus Mechanicus just kinda says, "Ok, you need this kind of building? Here." and builds the same thing they always do because that's the only way they know how.

Indeed most of the buildings are either prefab shacks, fortified instalations or designs reminissent of the Gothic Architecture seen in pre-Renaissance churches and stuff.

For some reason this type of architecture became popular again during the Dark Age of Technology and is now represented by ancient masterpieces or half-understood blueprints.

well, there must at least be a modicum of planning involved and thats not including the possibility of a client wanting something different/original/extra grandiose

yea most of the architecture, and this is especially visable in the cities of death kits, is renissance. you can tell because of the bullet shaped, thin windows, extremly detailed exterior, and the flying buttresses. the rennisance was the main period were flying buttresses were used.
