I personally look for the tactics threads, army ideas, army themes, and news on the races in all of the game systems

#300 is the best one.
the extra big edition has TONS of stuff:

1-very, VERY helpful 40k modeling articles
2-awesome battle reports
3-new list! Movie Space marines. its a space marine list based on what they would be, if the game was totally unbalanced (4 wounds, ws7, stuff like that.)
4-the first and ONLY article about custodians, and how to make them.
5-cool fluff on Gombrandil, the white dwarf, and the war of the beards.
6-stuff for everyone! WFB, 40k, tons of articles for everyone. its a huge edition.

soon after #300, white dwarf started going downhill into the crappy catalog it is now.

in its current setup the first section of any WD i turn to is standard bearer. i do love to read jervis's latest waffle about what's been on his mind recently my reaction ranges from outright laughter to rolling my eyes and shaking my head, but i do like to hear from someone who's been into the hobby longer than me.

my fave ever issue was the first one i ever picked up. issue 158. i had the first rules for eltharion the grim (before he got blinded by the witch king), the space wolf special characters in both 40k and epic, and a SW versus orks battle report that intoduced the gaming community the the name ghazkull. it was this issue that started my love of space wolves.

i really enjoyed WD251 & WD276 due to the 'carnage!' battle reports... i've played the carnage senario a few times and it's dead fun! it's also great to see the actual gamer's armies instead of the boring old 'eavy metal armies. (sure they're dead gorgeous, but hey, i want to see the "real man's" armies!)

i also love how they had some of the actual player's comments included in those reports as it really got across the idea of a bunch of guys simply having fun. (goading someone into a rash descision is half the fun of carnage btw!)
oh, and as always, it was always a laught to see the white dwarf lads gang up on poor 'ol fat bloke and trash his white scars!

cheers!

ah that was one of my favourites as well- playing it the day before they went away for christmas so they could side step any other work for the day.

My actual favourite is 2 WDs really- the 3rd Battle for Armageddon, can never remember the issue number but I loved everything in those issues (actaully got the 1st of the 2 issues still sealed, GW sent me an extra copy, go figure)

Hmm my favorite?
All of the special editions, Limited editions, etc. (E.g.: Canadian issue #1, WD issue 300 and 333, WD30th B-day issue, and so on)
All of the OLD ones (i.e. the first 10 or so) because they are absolute relics.
Other than that, I value ones that have a lot of stuff (be they fluff, army, painting, whatever) on The Emperor, Legio Custodes, and The Inquisition.

IIRC the armageddon issues are US issue 247 & 248 baron

and yes, i love how the white dwarf lads timed their inaugural 'carnage' report so as to avoid any kind of work just before the holidays! (kinda reminds me of how school teachers opperate really!)

cheers!

I'd dearly like to see that Steve!

MY favorite WD issue that I've read so far is the recent issue featuring Apocalypse. It's either because of its sheer size compared to all of the other magazines, or all the pretty pictures! Unfortunetly, I've only had a WD subscription for almost a year, meaning that I haven't read these "Carnage Reports" or issue 300. So, if anyone has a link to where I can buy one, or better yet, a big heart....

well, as my mate helped write that senario and has often said to me, "i encourage you to share it amonst your friends and give it a go!"
best game i ever had was when my and i & a couple of others gave it a go ourselves... wild, wacky and fun! and of corse, a healthy does of backstabbing which resulted in numerous pints being paid-up later that night over dinner!

so yes, go ahead and spred it around for the masses! it's honestly one of my all-time favourite senarios and really does make for greatly entertaining friendly games!

cheers!
