Yeah.. I know this is a general/off topic discussion, but please have your posts make at least some sort of sense, or have a purpose. Please.

I slightly think GW is, well expansion wise, but still material ... its just ok.

They now have 5 locations in my state.
A few months before, we had only 2.

But they seem to want to kill local game stores (which they killed two already).

Also seeing how the New Devastators Box is cheaped price, ($40-to-35).

Wyches are also priced cheaper at 35$.

OFCOURSE these prices are no where near original. But... its getting there.

But lately on the not so fluff related background, they need to start doing things we haven't seen billions of times before... Like How to paint a dark angel, or how to make a base for your model...old...And I'm sick of seeing the same necron and Tau stuff, and why not revamp BFG a little huh?

I like BFG and 40k for boarding missions and I don't exactly feel like using cadians or chaos marines......I want to use models that look like crew and secruity, slave and cultists! ARRRAAGGAGAGGAHHAHAHH!!!!! GW NEEDS SOME *BAM*!!!

yeah this one is alot better priced considering what your getting

the old devastator box came with one of each heavy weapons probably missing one and 5 space marines if course with metal heavy weapons

this one for the price of 35 dollars will give you 2 of each heavy weapon in a easy to customize plastic and 5 space marines.

now thats twice the amount of heavy weapons and no metal. this is alot cheaper and better priced then the older version

And, If you buy a Combat squad, you can use the Heavy Weapons spare to make another Devestator squad!!!

There are effectivly 2 people in my rest stop that play Warhammer 40k...wait I mean city...were called a city but we have about four fast food restaurants, some basic things like a church or two, a flower store and 2-3 plats of suburbian housing located directly off of a nearby interstate crossing thingy. ANYWAYS.

Theres two of us. Myself and Joe.

We became quite aware that we were not going to pay for Games Workshop items directly along time ago. My friends side sponsons of his demolisher for instance are balsa wood and pvc piping. The ONLY other things we buy are E-bay parts and bargain bin. Its cheaper that way and realistic. I honestly agree a devestator squad can still be sold with a mass profit for everyone involved in its making and selling without being 40 or even 35 dollars. If they sold it for less they'd probobly sell more.

Here's what hit me more the other day. My friend Brian saw us playing and gets interested. He decides he wants to start an Eldar army and so we thought it would be best to take him to a hobby store and let him pick out the guys in person. They ARE his first soldiers and its kind of a special moment . So we get there and it costs, I swear like 80 or 90 dollars just to get an HQ squad (Farseer, 3 Warlocks), I think 5 Rangers?, and maybe 6 or 7 Dire Avengers. Thats a pretty small ARMY. THATS pushing it to make 500 points with extra abilities and its 80 or 90 dollars! He was like WTF! You pay this much for this stuff?!

So we had to calm him down and I was lucky that I had a discount card there and got 20 bucks off the stuff. Still... it turned out to be about 70 bucks for his tiny little starting army! He IMMEDIATLY decided to look on E-bay for anything else he needed. Or make it himself.

I know I know, Im ranting. But Look at that! We didn't even pressure him, the guy flew off the hook looking at the price of the minis and decides that hes never buying directly from Games Workshop again!

We'll I guess I should just stop complaining and be happy theres three of us that play now in this little town-rest stop-thingy that we live in.

(Rolls around cursing games workshop in an angry fit)

yeahsuch things are outrageous. however for starting players i would always suggest getting the battleforce box. its about 90 dollars american but its an ok price for what you get. then again also look as his army. its small elite units. so your gonna pay the price of that while my guard i get 20 men for ever 35 dollars i pay.

Or you can just get a tactical squad, then you can have 2 devestator squads and a combat squad...all the more men to beef up other squads.

Battleforces are a must these days, for both starting and experienced players...you save so much money and have all the bits at once for conversions and so on.

Off topic, but what are the roughly available prices and things that come in a battleforce/megaforce. I would need mainly troops, etc.. As I only use one vehicle, a Dread, and it will be Forgeworld made, as all the dreads before it.

usually some where between 70-90 american.

they usually consist of a hq and 2 troop choices and a heavy support.

the cadian imperial guard has 1 command squad enough infantry models to build 2 platoons and 1 leman russ. i thinks it about 40 guardsmen and their command platoon

So the Guardsman battleforce is a good idea for my radicals... Now, the only drawback to the SM battleforce is the fact that I won't need the HQ or HS choices... So poot.... Back to drawing board.

[Space Maine Battleforce (looking at my box right now):
1 Space Marine Command Squad
2 Space Marine Tactical Squads
1 Razorback Tank

Just because you get the command squad doesn't mean you have to construct the sprue as such, not a single one of my Knights is constructed singularly from that sprue. Heck the only thing my company champion has is the combat shield, the rest is spread throughout the army.]

I was reading through some of my older WD (just the ones published in the last 2yrs, not too old) and I suddenly realised when GW changed- they've always increased prices, inflation and the such- it was aroung UKWD313 or 314 that the magazine went from a source of background information and inspiration for hobbyists to an overtly self-promoting collection of nonsense, and with it any credible defence GW had for being a company who cared for its customers over its profit margins.
Fair enough WD has always advertised new GW models (it wouldn't make sense for it not to) but just read some of the articles around the 314-320 period and you'll see what I saw, it doesn't make pleasant viewing...

Indeed it doesn't. The fat cats have gotten to the editors too.

I have a feeling that heroes such as Guy Haley and Jes Goodwin are waging a war against the fat cats and it is only a matter of time before they emerge triumphant and we see GW as it should be again.

WD...thats another 20 threads of rage right on its own.
the ONLY white dwarfs that i have, that ive found useful, are around 300. just as you said, about april of last year it went down the crapper.
but if you can, WD 300 is a good thing to pick up. some very cool GW history, modeling techniques (useful ones O_O) and stuff like that.

wow, that was pretty recent. i guess i never quite stopped to think about when GW started getting teh suck...then again, right around the time the forums closed i started getting a bit bitter about them. if i can get my design major maybe i'll trek myself to the UK and get a job at GW...if i'm lucky. more level headed thinkers there might do some good....then again, me, a level headed thinker? haha

wow and ikarus brought up an interesting point. there are now 3 games workshops he/i can get to in under 45 minutes driving. bizarre. bizarre indeed...i'm really anxious/hoping that the small business owners near me won't go out of business because of the competition, i mean, small companies can't hope to compete against the "powerhouse" specialization of hobby that GW offers for it's own products [naturally] ugh.

3 GW's within 45 minutes.
That's madness. There's only two GWs in the whole of Ireland and they are about four to five hours drive from me.

(It would be 90mins drive if it weren't for the giant car park encircling Dublin known as the M50 motorway)

Would you consider GW a monopoly? I mean, who else has such a 'popular' gaming/modelling/artwork/novel/ in SF besides Star Wars and Star Trek?
