Default How many of you TT players actually name your company?

For example if you had the Black Templars, how many people here actually give your company a name and make it known on your TT units. Example: Black Templar 13th Destroyer Company.

Ha, I'm not sure about naming companies. When I did my IG, I used colours.

I have heard of people naming Individual models before, painting their names on the bases....

I have given names to all 50- something of my Blood Angels. Also named are my dreads and predator. They all also have different squad names, such as the Blood Knights and Puritans. I have not named the company...

I am also naming all my Fallen Dark Angels in my LatD "counts as" army.

in imperial guard you can't really get away with not naming some units/men - I mean, you definately gonna name your commander, and probably your tanks - nevermind the units.

I name my chapter, the Shrieking Falcons! And my Master is Chapter Master Ryyan (I love the double y thing), plus chaplain Chisato. I tried to name my squads, but failed miserably, so I just have Squad A, B, C, and mabye even a D squad.

well, being the insanely mad little alien that i am, i name every character in my guard army! each officer, advisor & squad sergeant and even a few of the specialist too! (like corprol butler who's the company's only plasma gunner)
all the squads and platoon formations are named as well!

my guard look as follows;
regiment name: 13th Lodis 'Brigade of the Radiant Cross'
1st heavy infantry comapny: The Knight's Templar
2nd drop troop company: The Caliginous Order
3rd recon & artillery company: The Holy Black Guard

then leading the lodis is my radical inquisitor odion and his personal guard. every single member of his retinue is named!

basically, i spend more time thinking up names and background than i do converting/painting/playing with the army itself! (sad, i know! )

cheers!

No, that's sad. Toys that don't get played with because someone is noodling with a pen are an abomination and an affront to Santa Claus.

I just looked up latin names for my BA. I also themed them a bit religiously: my Sangunary High Priest is Simon (Peter), and the rest are named after the apostles, minus Judas. My two dreadnoughts are Gabriel and Raphael, with the third (not yet purchased...) being Micheal, the archangels.

Obviously, if you have Space Wolves, you'll want nordic names, and Black Templars should have Teutonic names. You can try greek (I may have used a few of those) and roman for more "traditional" Marine names. behindthename.com would also work.

I know Latin, so I usualy have a specific purpose in mind for my squads. I.E.:

1st Peritus Squad: roughly translated, Peritus is 'veteran'.
2nd Percutio - 'burning hit'
3rd Comminus - 'close hit'
4th Arcus - 'long hit'
5th Deprecor - 'strike'
6th Phalanx -'heavy/possessed'
7th Velox -'speed/quick'
8th Comicus -Bastardize for 'Comical'. These guys will be made in poses that make fun of some of my less favorite SM and CSM.
9th Gravius Telum- 'long range'
*Retinue is yet to be named for Lieutenant, but I will orient there name around sorcery*

I tend to design each squad with a specific function or purpose (even if the same equipment is used). I then reflect that purpose in the squads name. My Company I named the way the Emperors Children named their Companys.

looking into various ancient mythologies will yield a tonne of great names!

for example, what better name for a hertical word bearer dark apostle than akhenaten, the pharoh who tried to radically change egyption religion from the pantheon of gods to the single god aten - the sun?!!

cheers!
