THERE IS NO MORE RICE! (Due to rice famine everywhere)

Such a crisis for my fellow asian family. (Haha parents are freaking out on what to do with our normal staple food).

Though its not like my family only eats chinese food.


looks like I have to eat differently.


I swear this world is so going to turn into a death-world =D

I didn't believe it in the news when there was a shortage on rice.

I cook a LOT of food, and Asian food is just one type i'm just now learning.

Plus, for a fast weight drop, or to help you learn control of what you eat.. Rice is great. Small amounts fill you up, and adjust your mentality/body to smaller portions.

yea, without rice i don't know what i'm going to do. maybe we'll just adjust to the new prices ? or [lulz] we'll develop some sort of bioengineered rice that grows cheaper and better..

BE CAREFULL THOUGH Rice has sugars in it that can hurt you if your in a caloric deprived state!!!


BUt there is lots of rice here in NY, I just went yesterday to the asian Market for some sushi supplies and got some more rice while i was at it. no mention of a rice famine....BUt I dont doubt there is one. Around here its Hoagie/hero rolls...Not a one anywhere!!! NO Brats for Munkey.......

this is actually becoming something of a global problem at the moment, or so i read in the papers. the thing of it is that many nations are pushing the use of bio fuels made from certain crops in an attempt to combat global warming. farmers are finding it much more profitable to plant these crops than it is to plant food crops, so they're growing bio fuel crops instead of the normal stuff, which is creating a global food shortage that's hitting the developing world real hard.

every solution seems to throw up another problem huh?

You Islanders and Spam.....I have a bunch of Chamarro friends and was "adopted" by them so when we do picnics we always grill Spam. Its all about the money it seems my friend. Biofuel IMHO is great, but now that it is becoming "fashionable" it is growing in price. soon we will be paying $1.25 L for fuel (thats $3.75 a gal in us standard guys but everyone else buys it in liters including me 1/2 the time) and it will be the same grease we ate lunch with earlier that day. I see no drop in price as was one aspect of the biofuel drive, a cheap alt for fossil fuel dependance, as the more popular it becomes the more profit can be made.

Spam is a discusting food that I wouldn't be surprised if it crawled out of the can and cooked itself, probably made from chicken lips and snake feet!

Its a problem. The price of wheat (I read this week's economist ) has doubled SINCE JANUARY.

And Wheat isn't the only one... rice is also more expensive, as most grains and staples. In Bangladesh, and other countries like it, people are starving. Its now a crime, punishable by life imprisionment, to hoard rice in the Philippines.

So... one problem (lack of oil) leads to another, more important one (lack of food!)

Oh, and Ikarus... I feel your pain, in Dhaka, I eat rice twice a day... (and the only reason we don't eat it three times a day is because my parents couldn't take it!)

The only issues i've heard with biodiesel is -

it might take more energy to make biodiesel than actual biodiesel supplies.
Its what I've heard.



But Bio is definetly the biggest new alternative.



The next issue is not only famine, but the transportation of rice to around the globe.

i think they can make bio-diesel out of almost anything

its the ethynol that they are using all the corn and rice on
and i think your right about it dies use up more energy to make it than it puts out
right now
but thats only because it in its infancy
but why are they using up all my rice to do it
why cant they use potatos or broccoli or some other veggie im not a big fan of
why not brussels-sprouts fuel
