| Primer ![]() | I have just recently come to an end with my Imperial Guard army. I am satisfied with its set up and how versatile it can be. So now I want to take on a new army, but I'm not so sure with one to take on. I was thinking about a Space Marian army but there are a lot of those and a lot of different chapters. So a narrowed it down to two armies. The Necron, and the Tau. The part I am stuck at is witch one? I know a little of both armies but not enough to invest money into it. So here is my question, what are the good and bad sides about Tau, and what are the good and bad things about Necrons?

| well, the tau are very similar to the guard in that they're extremely shooty, but they are far more manouverable and fluid in their attack... (think eldar only slower!) however, unlike the guard, the tau themselves have absolutely no counter attacking abilities at all!!! (that's why you get the very lightly armoured kroot insteads! )the necrons are the army that simply won't stay dead... they can also be a very psychologically dangerous foe with units such as flayed ones and pariahs. they do however rely very heavily on the wargear taken by their lords as none of their squads have sergeant/champion/exarch type options. though they can play somewhat similar to marines, i'd go for necrons as they are very, very different in both style and abilities from the guard! cheers!

| tau are all range. there is 2 basic schools of tau warfare. you can make them increadibly fast and powerful, but once theyre in close combat theyre done. ive wiped out a full squad of fire warriors (10) with 3 assault marines. the other type is the dug in. lots of emplaced firepower to wait till they come to you, the whole time blasting them away. fire warriors are the best (the BEST) ranged basic unit in the game. necrons, on the other hand, are a methodical advance. they arent slow and perposful though. they are very powerful, very hard to kill, but basic infantry are slow in close combat. phariahs are very good anti-psykers. monoliths are the best tank in the game. dah best. (go away russ fans.) normally they are in a phalanx, with each unit supporting the rest. then you surprise them with a teleporting Monolith (think a deepstriking land raider, who can teleport other units to it.) and deep striking flayed ones. all gauss weapons, the basic necron weapons, have a chance to destroy a tank. they are sort of like rending, though not quite as powerful. because of the we'll be back rule, when a nec dies theres a 50/50 chance it will return back to life. that, along with the basic stats of a space marine with a 3+ save, makes them very hard to kill. |
