Smile Orc as Tournament Army

Now i realise there is a thread on orcs, but i hope this is deemed different.

I have been playing warhammer for about a year, sadly no big games as were i live (malaysia) its almost non-existent, there is 2 shops i believe in the entire country that sell warhammer models, and they do at an exorbitant price and limited choice. So far i have collected a basic chaos army (Rhino, 2 squads, lord) and have gotten turned off from them, their gameplay doesnt interest me and the whole demon thing a bit disturning, the fluff is cool but in the models seems a bit lifeless. I realise the diff gods give cool abilities but the idea of a marine walking around with pus coming out of his armour is not my idea of cool. lol moving on.

I have been looking around for an army for a while now, was interested greatly in a Armaggaedon Steel legion army, (love the little gas masks they wear) really like the AC idea, but couldnt find any models for them. ALthough its still an option if someone could fill me in on some ifo bout em. Space marines looked cool, but everyones doing em so put me off.

Then i saw orcs, and wow they were cool, the fluff is funnny, the models are cool, and they just ahve that nice attitude. Anyway i have sadly heard much about their inability to win battles and perform well against SM or CSM or other races, and would just like to know wat people think of orcs as am army in particular and if its worth holding off getting them till new Codex. BTW any info on Steel LEgion VERY APPRECIATED.
THanks in advance

HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Im glad Im the one to look and reply to this post. BTW my name IS steellegioncpt !! Been playing them since they came out!

Anyways I can give you advice on both Orks and Steel Legion.

For starters any army can be a tournement army, its the army list that makes or breaks them

ON that note. You will get a lot of debates on taking a mech. guard (most people didnt like wasting points with Chimeras) I for one disagree. Imperial guard are the most immobile army. Having that many chimeras are perfect to engulf the objective and litter the area with armour tanks. You can drop 50+ men on one small area and have the chimeras block/support the objective

AIM SN is steellegioncpt is you want it

As for orks. I only played against them (though often). Numbers simple enough having hundred models with the good old WAAAGGH is a good way to rush your enemy. Also have a mech boy in there with a Kustom Force Field and you are good to go. Also you can consider speed freaks. They have similar advantage to a mech guard list. The only difference being is Orks = CC guard = shooting.

Orks suck in high point games. Once you hit 1500, they're just not all that good; at 2000, they're not even competitive.

Speed Freeks used to be king, with burnas doing 4 + 2d6 flamer template against vehicles plus fast skorchas, and durable 'Ard Boy infantry with power klaw Nobz smashing through the enemy army.

The new edition of the rules killed the Nob sweeping advance.

The FAQ nerf ripped the heart out of the Speed Freek tankbusting ability, now you have to take expensive CC units to tankbust.

So where you USED to be able to run up in a single turn, kill 60% of their tanks, drop your Nobz off into CC and kill their CC specialists, then on the next turn sweeping advance and kill off most of the rest of their army while your 'Ard Boyz and vehicles with stikkbomm chukkas held off the rest of the army, now you can't kill the tanks, your Nobz stand there like idiots and get countercharged, well, it's pretty damn pathetic really.

--

At 1000 points or less, you can do nasty stuff with looted vehicles, Grots, and Flash Gitz, especially since Warboss is 0-1, so you can take Mad Dok and Cybork escort. Quite decent. But once you start getting to higher points, those tricks just don't work any more.

Don't even try footslogging at higher points. You just get shot to pieces.
