Default Tropical Storm Headed my way

Hey all,

Just to let you know, in a couple of hours (some say 6PM... others much later), a Category 4 Tropical Storm will hit my city...

This is a serious problem... I don't think I'll be killed or anything... but a storm this bad hasn't hit Bangladesh since '91... and last time 140,000 people were killed... and billions of dollars of damage was done.

Oh, and I can expect my internet, phone, and possibly power (hopefully not water...) to be out for a while...

Good luck, and Gods preserve you. Or God, in your case. Whomever watches over you, may they especially guide you now. We will await your return.

it sounds like they got another good pummeling...
watching the tele this morning the first updates i've heard have listed at least 66 dead so far from this cyclone

hopefully however this mistakes and lessons learned from past storms will ensure that those damage totals won't be nearly as high this time.

we're all thinking of you master, make sure you come this one in one piece!

cheers!

The paper said 700 dead this morning.

My power was off four about 22 hours... a lot of my friends ran out of water, and several tries fell down. Luckily, the storm actually missed Dhaka (at least... the big part did)...

Anyways... I'm back.

This is bangladesh... I'm surprised its not higher, seriously. This is the land were people freeze to death when it gets "cold" (IE you must wear two shirts, and jeans all day... and at night, have a blanket as well).

Why do people die? Because they don't have two shirts...

Sad? Yes... very sad.

Glad to see your still in piece.

Rule one for all people who may be put in a situation where they may not have a supply of clean in the near future due to the effects of natural disasters.

Fill the bath tub and all sinks to the brim the first chance you get...
this will give enough drinking water rations to last for a good few days and may make all the difference until an alternate source of water can be provided

even if the current reports of upto 1,100 dead are true, that's still only a small figure when you consider the country itself;
a) bangladesh is for the most part an impovrished nation. (though not quite as much as it was say 10-20 years ago...)
b) the country's geography is actually slightly below see level in certain places!
c) the main economy for a large majority of the population is the fishery & rice crops. thus, a large percentage of the population live next to the ocean.

keep in mind that in years past, cyclones hitting the country have caused death tolls in the houndreds of thousands! IIRC, the worst cyclone in the country's modern history in the late 70's killed over 300,000 people...

anyways, glade you made it through unscathed master!

cheers!

1100 seems like a big figure to me, whatever the geographical position. thats 1100 people who have lost a family memeber, impoverish or not.
