Default What Army Do You Play?

Let everyone know what you play.

and let us know why you play that army!

For me it is Space Marines
easy to get started
Chaos Space Marines
To follow the path of the Heretic (Nurgle at all costs)
Tyranids
Comon, The Hive mind is Great and allows tactics and flexibility that no
other army can match!
Eldar
Well, They are Elves, They are Space Elves, and they have warp
spiders!

Started with Eldar but since they're now in pieces and are used as trophies for my Blood Angels (alot went into my bitz box as well) lets not count them...

Otherwise Im an Astartes man. Cool imagery, fantastic background and possibilities, pseudo-bad guys so i can play them however i wish...plus im not the most tactically sound general so my marines can help pick up the slack if i make a few minor mistakes.

of course when the orks come calling and the Knights are finished...

OK...didn't we do this before?...

Everyone knows that I play SM...

Wolves to be more precise...and if you must know...the actual count is near to 12,872 points to include the Warhounds

I have been playing them for going on 18 years now...(damn has it been that long) I like the feel of them, at least when I started they just fit...
Who can't relate to a bunch of ale drinking, half wolf, viking barbarians who live to kill the enemies of man?....
Besides their iconography just caught my eye and has actually improved a bit over the years...

Marines: love the fluff, fun army, very flexible. the only army were 20 terminators are practical!!

Sisters: cmon, the gals are awesome. AP1 bolters three times a game? massive amounts of melta guns and flamers is always fun! plus, lots of detail in the models, and not alot of people play them.

Tyranids: when im feelin the swarm...well...when your opponent looks across the table and thinks "how am i going to kill all of that?!" youve won half the battle

KHORNE!!!: all of my army, besides half of my marines, are close combat. khorne is the E PIT O ME of close combat power. nid players, tau players (lol) whoever, dont care what you say. KHORNE FTW!! bezerker rhino rush is awesome. kharn the betrayer is the best special character IN THE GAME hands down.
oh and btw...BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!! SKULLS FOR THE BRONZE THRONE!!

Eldar: i dont know if im gonna take my eldar very far. its somethin new, challenging to paint, interesting models. probrobly only going to go to 1k with these guys.

Chaos Space Marines: I started, like most people, with good old marines. They never really saw much action to be honest, but are now back with a new lick of paint and mixed in with the new CSM sets for the latest Codex:CSM release. My return to marines was prompted mostly by events on The Conclave inquisitor forum, along with the happy coincidence that the new codex was only a couple months off at that point - coupled with owning a downloaded copy of the 'dex for about two months now.

Imperial Guard: These chaps grabbed my attention in a serious way when the codex was redone towards the end of 3rd Edition, since then the army has (very) gradually grown to approx 1,500 points IIRC, not much I know, but because of my situation, its rare that I ever get a game of 40K (there isn't even the local club any more). I've had a change of heart with these guys now that I've turned to Chaos finally, I shall perhaps repaint them, but that's probably better left alone for now - the basic principle now is that they are traitor guard who are pledged to my CSMs, but they shall still follow the IG codex.

crap man! what army don't i play?!! well, because you've asked for it;

- imperial guard w/radical daemonhunter allies. over 2000pts and that's just the 2nd company drop infantry. once the project is 100% finished, it'll be roughly three 2500'ish guard 'armies' representing the 3 companies of the lodis 13th + a proper 1500pts radical daemonhunter army.

- space marines, or rather the bearers of dark knowledge. like the relictors, the bearers enjoy playing with evil chaotic artifacts! i hope the again take this project to a full chapter in the end.

- eldar. on hold for the moment as i need to build the marines for my staff army. (i'll cry when fully converted guardsmen grow legs and walk-off!)
this army is going to be a long time in building as my goal is to paint them all upto display standard. (so for example, the 8 dire avengers i've got on the go have so far been about 10 hours of work alone!)

- tyranids. this is my planned army for the inagural astronomi-con uk. a plague fleet of 90 gribbly & diseased bugs including a flyrant + 4 'fexes! be afraid, be very, very afraid...
again, this will be a 100% fully converted force! lots of nurgle imagery and a fairly quick but truely putrid paint scheme.

for fantasy, because it still counts;

- empire. again, my force is themed around the personal household guard of a radical amythst wizard. (i love being the bad guy!) a couple big blocks of 'house' troops supported by the local pesentry & the dreaded templars of morr.

- skaven. i find the idea of rats with gattling guns & sniper rifles highly amuzing! that and the whole background of the skaven in general really appeal to my rather twisted/sick sense of humour...

- chaos. mainly tzeentch, but i also plan to add some undivded & slaaneshi units. my basic 2000pts list will include both a tzeentch lord on a dragon & a war mamoth! (why? to see the look on the other guy's face! is it really practical? not a chance - cannon balls to the fore!!!)

cheers!

Ummm. Take a guess. I only play CSM. Black Legion. I will never play anything else. Space marines gone horribly wrong. How can you not love that? I love their diversity, the look and feel are great, and they do as they please. Modeling them is as fun as playing them. I love most of the armies (except the Dark Eldar and Eldar) in 40k, but I will never use anything but my beloved Black Legion. Plus Abbadon is the baddest son of a gun in the galaxy!

I play space marines... will be picking up some CSM this Christmas... have played with my brother's Tyranids (but don't play them, per se) and was given a small (750) point Guard Army from a friend who got it from a friend who retired from 40k a while back...

Chaos.... I have way too many points in Chaos. I started out with a World Eaters back in like 98 or something and still have to buy stuff for them from time to time to make myself feel dirty, at one time (not with the new codex) I fielded 8 2000 point FOC of completely unique Chaos so you get the idea

Moved on to Nids about a year before Tau,love them, always will one of the 2 armies will be played for every game I play with Chaos depending on my mood

note: at some point in time in the last 3 years I have been able to field at least 3000 points of any general Codex army

Right now I am working my Dark Eldar

I don't know what else to say

oldest current army for me is chaos, specifically black legion although these lads have had so many different paint jobs over the years (iron warriors, night lords, some funky red/gold scheme i was into for a while, every marine was a different colour for a short time too, duno what i was thinkin there).
this is also my largest army, standin at about 2000+ pts in the old dex.

next up is an IG force of about 1800-2000pts, again having had about half a dozen different paint jobs (yes, i'm indecisive when it comes to colours!). i used to have about 3000pts of catachans during 2nd-3rd ed but some git stole em during a burglary

next up is about 400pts of ledar i wanted just for the painting experience. the new eldar range is such a joy to paint, so detailed

lastly, the pups that are slowly growing on my table and taking over my life! totally converting everything is hard work!

I play Black Templar Space Marines because, like all Space Marines, they're tough and powerful. Also, their list has some flexibility, unfotunetly its also a list that will produce many similar amy lists. But its their fluff that, MO, can't be beaten by any other army. Their style of combat, while not very realalistic compared to todays warfare, is just plain cool. Their chapter size is due to their first High Marshal basicly saying "Screw You" to Guilman.

I play Space Marines.

However, I don not stick to one list. I use the traits system to make battle foramtions, not chapters. It leads to some very interesting games...

I have 2500 pts of eldar, my own craftworld. I'm planning on getting a revenant titan to further expand on it.

I have 2000 pts of 1k sons, led by ahriman and a converted daemon prince.
What can i say, i like psychic armies
