Default What if Warhammer 40k had its own animated show?

I would think it would be the greatest marketing ploy for GW, seeing as though they want to appeal to a larger audience.

But I'm not talking about an anime for kids, no I'm talking really great original animation thats meant for adults and teenagers with a gritty art style and well portrayed voice actors.

Also NONE and I mean NONE of the Dobsons should do any voice (I hate how all three of them are the only voices for dawn of war)

It should follow the uprising of the emperor and the ensuring age of conquering, followed by the horus heresy and the incarceration of the emperor in the golden throne.

I would watch that till the end of time if done properly, what say you fellow terrans?

I say..... sure, it'd be good if it were designed for adults, but...... knowing GW, if it's ever done, it won't be. And I don't entirely think 40k can be well portrayed in anime/manga.. though I may be proved wrong at some point.

if it concentrated on story like the old battletech animated series did (which was great) it woulod be good and 40k has many themes and ideas which can be used in amore adult oriented series... but who are we kidding? GW should (rightfully) make it for kids.

As much as I would love to see a production done, I don't see this ever happening.

Any one seen the 40k mini movie that they made about 12-15 years ago. It was live action and the Chaos Marine looked pretty sweet, but that was about it. After a flop like that I don't see GW investing any money in to it, esspecially after that computer animated movie got canned.

My two cents,

i remember watching that live action thing at games day. it was made especially for GD 19?? and was heavily hyped up but when we saw it we were kinda like huh...couldn't they have spent some money on it?

i think that it'd be really difficult to make something that would be true to the gritty and violent brutality of the 40k universe and have it child friendly. in kids shows nobody ever dies and the bad guy always gets away to hassle the good guys another day. i would hate to see 40k get this treatment. the guys at manga, if they could be persuaded to stay true to the 40k image, could probably do it justice though.

Don't get me wrong I would love to see 40k done just on the screen, regaurdless if it was in a movie or on TV. I just can't see GW doing something that cool. I love this game, but man GW makes some strange Buisness decisions... take Dark Hersey for example.

I hate anime, but that would be he only way that a 40k could get on TV......name one modern show that isn't anime that involves killing and blood

America just can't get away with good cartoons anymore, just look at old Tom and Jerry cartoons. There's hot irons and shotguns and bombs everywhere.......can you imagine the perfect little world TV censors allowing America to make cartoons like that anymore?

There would be rioting in the streets, so instead they toned it down for shows like Courage the Cowardly dog and Cow and Chicken, which in turn were removed from TV for constant reruns of crap like Camp Lazlo.

Something on Cartoon network adult swim would be sick. Something like that CGI from dawn of war would be AMAZING.

How hard could it be, after seeing that it'd definately be possible.George lucas is making his new CGI series about PG13, so he said not necessarily for kids. GW can do it too

I dunno, done properly anime is alright, the problem is that it tends to degenerate quickly. An animated series would work, as long as they kept the number of people getting their heads blown apart by bolter shells to a minimum.

Courage the cowardly dog rocked!

It'd have to be marines versus some sort of xenos or chaos just so you didn't see 'humans' dying to violently- the way Peter Jackson kept the rating for Lord of the Rings down was by making sure the Orks had black blood.
Something similar done to 40K could ensure that you could keep it to around a 12 rating (don't know what that would be in the USA).

In that case marines vs either orks, nids or necrons (or some freaky combination of all three) might be the way to go...

yeah a Death Watch team (small enough cast so you can really connect with the characters) and, what are essentially, robots would definitely keep the ratings down and make it a cool show.

unfortunately having Necrons would make for a very silent battle. No "bad guys", just targets.

I'm thinking Chaos would make for a much better enemy, that way it can be simply cast as good versus evil. If it did turn out to be an anime show with xenos as the bad guys there would be endless philosophical scenes cutting into our fighting time.

True, but you can't go far wrong using nids, they're noisy, there's a lot of them and there isn't a lot of time to philoshophise between dodging scything talons and fleshborers... On the robot front, watch the Cylons from the new battlestar galactica, the robot one's say nothing and its still a nice conflict.

True, but Pariah's would be the only Necrons to be able to talk, I don't believe Lords can.....it would take some really creative engineering to make the Lord seem more of a boss bad guy then the talking Pariahs. Even in Dark Crusade I felt more like I was fighting the Pariah then the Necron Lord of Kronus.

Tyranids may be a good idea for a filler enemy every once in a while, but they would turn into too much of a faceless enemy after a while with no boss bad guy to fight.

Orks and Chaos would probably be the best, with the Ork's comedic overtones coupled with incredible brutality, numbers and sheer ramshackle appearance and Chaos' 'fallen' warriors....well I'd watch that.

Chaos would be wayyyyy to violent and gross. How about Tau and Space marines, very clean armies. Eldar would work too, also dark eldar.

definitely NOT Dark Eldar there even more violent than Chaos. At least the followers of Chaos believe in something (they certainly dont see themselves as 'bad guys') the Dark Eldar are arguably the most evil race after Necrons

i think it would be one of the first R rated cartoon shows that have enough random tyranids eating people to get banned after the first episode, due to angry parents letting there 5 year olds watch it.

Aka: would be cool.

Clean yes, but then we've got that "who do I root for?" problem, which then leads to entire episodes of characters explaining themselves and why they're doing it.

I was thinking along the lines of Heavy metal the movie or other more serious animations.

Anime would look good if done justice, And if they were it should be aired on Adult swim.

My guessing is it should star a squad of ultramarines fending of the remnants of a hive fleet aboard a space hulk or something if they don't do the Horus heresy.
