What the $#(@ is wrong with gw managers?

OK am really pissed off right now, iv applyed for 2 jobs at the local games workshop, and both times people who NEVER come to ANY events get the job. Even know i spend my time SELLING MORE STUFF TO PEOPLE then the damn staff. Is it me or is this just odd? the manager seems to KNOW everyone he hires before hand almost friend like and there mostly useless idiots that don't even have fully built army's for ANY game. Why is it that people that TELL THE GW'S STAFF\MANAGER that i should be hired since i explained things so well to them NEVER help at all???? or is this manager just an idiot? thoughts? its royally pissing me off due to all the help i HAVE GIVEN the store setting up this week for the 25th as well, and the Sob manager didn't even say THANK YOU. I am also considering contacting gw canada about this guy, he is a royal jerk wad and doesn't seem to care at all about making customers happy, only getting there money.

probably because he is trying to get a job and thinks he has done enough to earn a place there but the manager doesn't seem to notice? (sorry if that came up wrong)

No thats about it, maybe its because i make him look bad when talking to people that go in since i tend to tell them what is GOOD for there army not what THEY "HAVE TO" buy according to his staff. But yes i know it is his choice but i think its odd THAT NO ONE from the groups that come to THAT stores events ever gets a job.

but why would he let that piss him off?
let me in on a little job knowledge
apply once (thats it)
call or inquire about your application every so often
behave when you are in their store
that means follow all their rules
(doesnt matter how dumb they are)
dress for the job you want
(ive thrown away thousands of apps because the person looked crappy when they turned it in)
there are right and wrong ways to go about doing things

im not saying you are doing the wrong things
but it doesnt mean you are doing the right things to get this job you covet

he might have a stack of apps and when a spot opened up the other one might have been turned in first

No offense, please... Please don't take offense here... But GW staffers are supposed to be advanced (I do mean ADVANCED) painters and modelers, and while your skills in those areas aren't horrendous by any means, if any staff members i've met or known are an indication, you do lack the experience and skill in that area.

And you were supposed to get it? Did he tell you this himself? Because, if he himself didn't verbally, (and plainly, I know retail) say 'You're getting this job' then it doesn't mean crapola. lol.

Age could also be a factor.

Plus, it comes down to the fact, no matter what you think or others think, he's the boss. And getting riled up like this, even just online, is not the frame of mind you want to have in this point.

Get some more armies under your belt. Read everything you can on modeling and painting. Push yourself technique wise. Try some GS sculpting, scaled to what you feel is just outside your comfort zone. Make a blood bowl team, paint up a LotR force, try a small BFG fleet. Explore the fully GW package, so to speak!

Also, take it from someone who's been just like you it seems, you'll need to learn to 'eat crow' so to speak, to be in the retail world. I'd say let the job issue slide, push yourself as much as you can on the hobby this year, and apply again next summer. Rinse and repeat. If nothing else, sheer dedication might see you through!

i wouldnt hire a smoker who had to deal with children on a regular basis
and give them advice and other things of that sort
but what can you do?

Trust a former Education major, one of the largest markets for cigarettes, etc.. is Elementary-Highschool Teachers.

Done in front of/while with the kids, yes it's bad. But if he's just nipping one out back, in the break room,or when the store is dead, it shouldn't matter whether he smokes cigs or not. My 2 cents.

ohh no you get me wrong my firend
im a smoker (pack and change a day..but on the decline)
but im a chef
if i needed a line cook or a server i would definately hire you as a smoker

but if i ran a hobby shop
(which i hope to do in the next few years)
that had kids around i would be reluctant because of the enviroment
parents want to know they can trust their kids not to be negatively influenced by staff memebers they could potentially look up to
to me there is a fundamental difference
now smoking out back away from the kids i wouldnt have a problem with
just not in front of the kids
but that would be something i would explain to an employee before they got hired
and would be strictly enforced

1.Greasy Slicked back hair
2.Very Loud and Likes to play fight for no reason
3.Says Tau crush everything (said my swarm army dies in 1 turn to his tau tanks....idiot)
4.Smokes and stinks like it
5.Smokes well primering models for people.
6.SUCKS AT primeing models huge spots left unfinished
6.swears more then me! (AND THATS FAR!)

Also as for painting\modeling skills......im better then some of the staff members, and i know more about the armys.......(hell he SAYS TAU BEAT EVERYTHING) yet when i go to play him he "Forgot" his army at home.

Ya corporate would be a good idea...all the staff that did a really good job with kids except two people where fired by this guy....... Calling corporate might work, but then your presence on the staff would be resented, and you'd be hated by most of your co-workers.

As it is, if you feel so surperior to the staff, as you state in your posts.. Maybe that attitude is coming across (while you don't know it, I ha the same problems bro) and is messin it up.

I could deal with the above issues easier in a retail enviroment than a superior attitude. I was a training supervisor, an that was the quickest way for me to nix you was an obtuse attitude.

Its not the swearing its more the Creepy dose NOT SHUT UP for 5 seconds how ever i tricked him into proving he was making **** up about having read vampire wars (Plus tau cant win vs every race)

The problem is, any race can win against any race, into infinity....

For every action you can come up with with your army, his tau army could (and should) have a counter action, however random dice rolls and luck are what make the winner, not what CAN happen.

What he's saying is likely to be feasible, smart, and possible. Just not likely to be 100% guaranteed. I have an ork playing friend like that. All power gamers tend to be so,

he doesn't have half his army built..........so there is literly no way he can take me on atm...due to the fact i stick to 1500 point or higher games just so i don't have to mess with my list as much.

True enough. How ever read the points above @_@ i don't want that gw to close down due to i only use brown paints on 1 mini in my whole army Varghulf, and i just go there to paint it. How ever if the staff is a bunch of morons they will shut it down

I didnt read any of the replies, but this is somehwat true. Years ago a staff job was given to a guy who never played before he started lol.
and recently some of the guys arnt sure on most of the rules or how to play any of the games really that well (even their painting is bad at times )

although the rest are top notch, couldnt ask for better :P
