do you mean use them as unmarked chaos space marines or death guard?

if the former, no, since death guard armies (using the book of nurgle) can only have units marked by nurgle)

if the latter yes, though make sure theyre obviously death guard, with an appropiate colour scheme and proper transfers. idealy you should use spme Green Stuff to add big bellies etc

When I was building my Thousand Sons army, I wasn't earning much money (McDonald's wages) and so I only bought one box of Thousand Sons, and instead used the regular Chaos Space Marines.

It's perfectly acceptable.

yea i'm agreeing with them: i'd say it's fine as long as it's obviously whatever they are supposed to represent. maybe some GS work, like dead commando said, would help you :]

the chaos marine box lends itself to great conversions, i've used its pieces even in making a radical inquisitor the last couple days, and it looks great :]

good luck!

Yes it is possible. I took normal plastic Chaos SpaceMarines and converted everything myself.

Here are some examples

No , I don't work for a Design team or anything. I just dont like really any of GW's models so I either sculpt my own using there ideas or just covert the HELL out of theirs

Man those are some sweet models-the conversion work and the paint job!

As for using the plastic ones,go for it-you dont have to convert them if you dont want to or cant.If you can a few greenstuff sores or big bellies help,a small oamount of polystyrene cement can be used to "melt" armour and give running sores/acid burns.

Or if you have a few extra pennies buy one box of the Death Guard figures (or buy some bits from it) and mix and match stuff, whether its full figures or just an head, arm or somtthing else, that way every minature can have somthing from the Boxset on it!. I combined/expanded a box of Death Guard and a Plastics box into two full squads of Death Guard, with both of them looking suitably Nurgley!

Indeed... Excellent job. And I concur with Peturabo. You don't need to buy one box per squad. In my entire 3K army for Emperors Children I have two actual EC boxes in the mix, and they look suitably slaaneshy! Especially with Death Guard, how you want them to look is almost totally up to you!

there was a guy in the uk wd a while back doing a death guard army, and he was using normal csms as his troops selections and the DG minis as special units to give them a bit of contrast. and as we all know, if something is done in the dwarf its good for the rest of us!

Well, if that is what he was doing, he couldnt have been playing Death Guard. It specifically sayss that you have to use Mark of Nurgle on every model in the army. Units that cant have it, cant be used. Now, he could be doing a chaos marine army where he runs units with the MoN, but then they are elites choices!

I think he meant the models, not the statlines, abilities, etc... Like he used appropriately painted CSM models as Death Guard/MoN troops, and used the Death Guard squad boxes for chosen, possessed and the like. Am I correct of hairy one?

spot on m'lord, spot on. after reading my post again i realise it was a bit confusing, apologies.

what i ment was that he was using regular plastic csm minis as his line troops and the DG metals as elites. he added some zombie heads to the plastics to a more nurgley look.

Hello just got on this site and I say yes you can 2 reasons I have been playing a death guard army for about 3 years and am about 50% win loss ratio kept getting blasted with no heavy fire power and have 2squads of mettel and 2 squads converted plastic all painted the same and my termanators were converted space marine just sanded off the confused eagle and painted the mark of nurgle on them Since the new codex came out I still intend to play my same army and still will hold to the death guard mantra of no heavy weopons even though i use the new models

The Death Guard box is sweet, the Nurgle Havoc box is also. I picked the Havoc box up for 25 bucks, but normal CSM make for good conversions, especially the new stuff.

this is really great work, i love it! great job.

@OP. im sure the question has been answered over and over and all, but i think one of the best parts about our hobby is being able to take something and completely change it into something else, like in this instance, taking regular chaos marines and making them death guard specific. theres so much opportunity for your own touch and feel and really making your army, your own!

spread the plague!
