Default Question concerning Dark Angels fluff

Okay, so from what I understand a good portion of Dark Angels (I'm assuming about half) went to Chaos at some point in time.

But, after turning evil, what did the renegades rename themselves to? Or is there also a Dark Angels legion?

they became The Fallen and were wisked away into the warp and scattered throughout time and space (at least that was the last fluff i read about them).

So The Fallen aren't a legion, just a bunch of Chaos-worshiping loners?

pretty much, yeah. although from time to time some of them come together for some clandestine reason or another and cause the imperium a few hassles.

Well according to the fluff...there are small bands of them still together..or Fallen that have found others of their ilk and thrown in together...but for the most part...their organization as a legion??...not to my knoweledge...they just appear here and there wreeking havoc where they can and then disappearing or getting caught by their loyalist brothers...have you read the newer SW novel?...Sons of Fenris...The antagonist is a Fallen Captain with a small contingent of his own men...

yea i believe "the fallen" is the name that the DA use for them. and i'm seconding what wolfpack said, it seems like they just went their separate ways, joining chaos armies when they found one ? maybe small bands of fallen, but yea i don't think they come in armies, they just mix into another force.

Well as I said...without giving away the book there is a little bit of history/fluff in the Sons of Fenris...the next book is Wolves Honor ...but no release date yet..and it's supposed to be more SW vs. 1Ksons

The Fallen did not all turn to Chaos. There are three different Fallen philosophies:
-Those who repent for turning on the Lion
-Lutherites, who are still loyal to Luther, even though he broke down after mortally wounding the Lion
-renegades who act in their own interests, be it as a mercenary, or just hiding from the Imperium

"Angels of Darkness" by Gav Thorpe (I think) will give you more info. Also, there is a new Horus Heresy book called "Descent of Angels" by Mitchell Scanlon, which will probably tell even more.

Angels of Darkness is impossible to find, and the last time I saw it the book was priced over $100 USD, so good luck on that one. Descent of Angels is not yet out yet, but I am awaiting it eagerly.

Seriously?! $100?! Wow. I am lucky to have a friend who buys warhammer books like candy, and he got it a while back, so I read it.

As for Descent of Angels... it's out in the UK... :-P Haven't read it, though. I need to read Fulgrim first.

Your friend is lucky. That price as about a year ago now. I'm sure it has risen, and it is at the very top of my 'to buy' list.

My friend is very lucky, indeed... he must have gotten that right before the price went up because it couldn't have been much more than a year ago...

In any event, some of the fluff in there is controversial anyway. Descent of Angels will probably be a better (and will probably be considered more "canon") source anyway.

I got my copy of Angels of Darkness for the princely sum of £6.99 straight from a GW store about 10 months back- also if your going to read 'Descent of Angels' you have to read 'Angels of Darkness' before or straight after it.

I thought it was the worst of the Horus Heresy series so far (mainly because its set about 2-3 centuries before the Heresy) but then I was in a GW store the next day and the guy there told me that some of the characters are in Angel of Darkness, and that its full of references that you'd only get if you read the Angels of Darkness (wish i'd known that before )

EDIT: HOLY CRAP! theres a copy going for $278 on Amazon!
