Make The Most Of Your Swooping Hawks

The Best Setup that I have found for an Squad of Swooping Hawks it this:

4 Hawks
1 Exarch
Sunrifle, Sky Leap

Tactics Like This:

Start on the field in cover as far forward as possible.
1st turn:
Jump move into good firing position
you get 8 24" range S3 AP 5 shots and 6 S3 AP5 pinning shots

2nd turn
Sky Leap Out

3rd & subsequent
DS in and drop a large plate of death ANYWHERE ON THE FIELD. Sky Leap Out.

6th turn:
DS in and drop your large plate of death
claim a table quarter or objective.

Using this strategy, your hawks are almost impossible to shoot down (AA and inquisitors are all that can shoot them) and you will take out more than you think.

Throw in an autarch and get +1 to your reserve rolls to bring them back into play

Smile and watch your opponent hate them to almost no avail.

sorry steve, you can't shoot the turn you skyleap. you can still bring down the pieplate every turn but no lasblasters for you my son

if you want to make the most of the rubber hawk trick you need to keep the squad as small/cheap as pos. minimum model count and only the skyleap power on the exarch. although this does waste the potential of the haywire grenades. add the intercept power to the exarch and they can now reliably knock out armour too. while the sunrifle is very cool (assult6!) it's not really very useful in either of these set ups.

But... Since she'll be facing Apoc sized armies.. A sunrifle/bigger squad is just fine, right??

s'great if she wants the squad to force pinning tests. but the lasblaster and sunrifle lack ap so its not awesome against meqs.

with one caveat.

you can have the shot advantage. and if even 1 wounds, the pinning test kicks in. 1 in 6 should wound.
that simple.

the target's gotta fail their armour save as well for the pinning test, as it works on casualties rather than wounds.
