 |  So the Whyf is starting Eldar - including pics of her Farseer as above and: so far she has the following: 1x Farseer 10x Dire Avengers 11x Guardians including Warlock and Support Platform on its way are a Vyper, 6x Striking Scorpions and thanks to Ikarus, 5x Eldar Rangers. she has never played before, so i am having to guide her with an army i have never used, so i could do with some help please?! my plan was at 500pts 1x Farseer with Doom, runes of witnessing 5x Striking Scorpions inc exarch w/ Biting Blade, Stalker 10x Dire Avengers inc exarch w/ Shimmer sheild and power weapon, Bladestorm and Defend 11x Guardians inc platform w/ Shuriken Cannon and Warlock w/ conceal that adds to 500 exactly if i am not mistaken, and if not, things like defend will be dropped. she will be facing off against my Witch Hunters, nothing fancy - 2 squads of battle sisters and a cannoness how does the list look? i want it to be fair, and don't want to put her off the game you see. also, what should she be building up from this with? obvious thoughts are tanks, but i don't want her to have to tackle anything more complex than a vyper too early on. cheers guys EDIT: didn't think it was worth a new post, but this the Farseer she painted, what do you think?   sorry about the size of them and quality of them, do i need to get them smaller?

| Since she has never played, then I would say that you really shouldn't be concerned about who has the better army, or whatever. In fact, you should explain to her EXACTLY WHY you do EVERYTHING, that way she might be able to get some of the tactics and strategy of the game. Also, start with the basics... move, shoot, assault. Then, go on to pychic powers, tanks, special mission objectives, etc. I suppose pychic powers could be included in the first game since she is playing eldar though...

| lol - i don't know, she said they were pretty! she isn't an artist, she has painted a handful of fantasy models, and when i can i will get them up as well. also she tends to paint my ICs since i cant get a steady hand and my technique is poor i'm proud of her efforts though

| cheers steve, will do. i took it with a crappy 3.1mpix, so it was never going to be good! once i get her to paint a few more, i will get mart to takes some pics and will post them up. speaking of the banned one, he is suggesting i avoid the vypers, should i? it may be that she will be getting two, so buying wise its too late, but game wise?

| Lieutenant  | Are those Striking Scorpions the new models? Either way, they`re really worht it  Oh, and i really like the wife`s painting :P Try using macro and/or a more powerfull light next time if your camera doesn`t have a flash that just use the sun.

| you'll need to get 1 more guardian for that unit so she can have a better scoring unit. always aim for even numbers so she can maintain her scoring status for as long a possible. also, i'd swap that power toy/shimmer shield to the twin shuricats when taking bladestorm. one neat little trick i've been trying to develop is to use an 8-avenger bladestorm squad supported by a 10 avenger basic squad. this way, you can lose off a bladestorm, then use the other 10-man unit to cover the now vulnerable 8-man squad. if you do give an avenger squad defend, i'd go for the diresword option as it s great fun against multi-wound opponent's! (and you'd be surprised just how many of 'em there really are!)the next things to look at; anti-tank: 6x fire dragons inclu exarch w/dragon's breath flamer. mount them in a wave serpent w/shuri-cannon & twin-linked shuri-cannon. nice little unit which can also see off large crowds! anti-meq: 5x dark reapers. exarch not really needed, but if you do go for it, i'd honestly try to magnatise the exarch because it really is a toss-up between the eldar missile launcher or the extremely tasty tempest launcher! vehicle: war walkers. god how i love 'scouts'! plus, these guys throw out so much fire power it really will turn opponent's white! cheers!

| apparently i have done mart a dis-service, he didn't mean that i should avoid them, but rather that they should have a jetbike shield. anyway, had thought that star cannons were the way to go to punch through my sisters' power armour, but in the long term, what about missile launchers on them instead? i'm not going to invoke WYSIWIG on her so whichever she equips the models with, i won't restrict her to. P.S. Martin, you were banned so that you could make some headway on your painting, so why are you lurking on here?

Blog Entries: 5 | a jetbike shield would not be a bad idea, but a target priority check bypasses it. i would not bother as the only thing that usually fails that TP check is orks and necrons.

| will do, thanks. thinking about it, and bearing in mind i am without a rulebook at present, is the screen not redundant anyway since the vyper is a vehicle and so the jetbikes can be ignored anyway? or am i remembering the rules incorrectly?

| yes, the bikes could be ignored, but with a target priority test personally i think eldar's strength lies solely in their mobility, so i think she should get some falcons or wave serpents to taxi people around. wave serpents are very tough tanks for only a-12!

| my personal preference is too keep my wave serpents as cheap as possible... they aren't ever scoring units anyways, and i'd much rather put the extra pts into proper scoring units! besides, a twin-linked brightlance is hellishly expensive... a falcon's pulse laser is almost as good, plus you get a taxi-service on top the 2 S8 shots! wave serpents meanwhile are stuck ferrying about the squad they're bought for. cheers!
