well i don't know much about gaming with eldar but i can tell you from a painter's point of view the eldar mini range is one of the best out there. they all have so much detail going on that you can really go nuts on them, and that's just the standard troopers?!?

if you enjoy spending time getting a really good looking army then eldar are perfect for you

that and the fact that eldar are extreemly versitile makes them one of the funest armies to play. you want cc we got it, you want shooty, we got it, you want heavy hitting firepower, we got it.

lots of different tactics you can play with eldar.

eldar are a brittle force-they hit hard but if you get bogged down you die

yeah, mcflurry has got a point there. however, the idea with eldar is to be the best tactician. if u play eldar, u MUST know your forces inside and out. you also MUST know your opponents forces inside and out as well. I know this now, not when i started. if i had, i probably wouldnt have started playing 40k with eldar. they are a tough race to get the hang of. tactics that work with other races, fail miserably with the eldar. they are a blast to paint tho, and i am having lots of fun with it. however, one thing i will tell you, is that if you are planning on starting an eldar army, i would suggest knowing before hand that you will be spending a lot of money. one thing about the eldar army is that it is only at its pinnacle of effectiveness with a full retinue of all available units, in quantity. its not good enough to just have a small unit of 5 banshees, you NEED to have the option of taking two FULL 10 man squads in wave serpents. just the same, you need to have bare minimum 2 full 10 mans of striking scorps too. not to mention the fact that warp spiders are dead awesome, but you really need at LEAST 1 10 man squad of them. next up, dire avengers. 3-4 10 man squads of them. im not the biggest fan of guardians, but they max out at 20 man squads, and you must take a weapon support platform with each squad you take of them, or else get the special ulthwe guardians. war walkers are effective as hell, but, once again, you really need to have at least 1 3 walker unit. i like to take 2 3 walker units. wraithlords are nice too, and it is nice to have 2-3 of those as well. now, onto hq's. You absolutely MUST of 2-3 farseers, 3-5 warlocks, eldrad, an avatar. now, you dont NEED, but it helps to have all 6 phoenix lords, and a few different autarchs (there are 3 different setups for them, and if you are smart, you will use magnets with them, so they can use all of their available options.) now, that brings me to the next point, which is definitely plan on using a LOT of magnets, as you have 5 available options for each gun mount you have. so, thats 2 on each war walker, 2 on each wave serpent....etc. sry to go on and on, but, this is the stuff that i wish someone had told me before i set off on my quest for a good eldar army. im almost there, and currently have about 8500 pts. i need another 1-2 wind rider squadrons (125 a piece) and i need 1-2 sunstorm squadrons (3 prism tanks a piece, i think they r 90 bucks a set). so, when all is said and done, i will DEFINITELY have well over 10000 pts, without adding a single forgeworld model. once i start on those, well......im trying not to think about that right now. anyways, hope this helps somewhat. dont be discouraged tho, eldar are awesome, and if used correctly, will completely overrun any competition. we can pretty much outdo any one at anything, except we are pretty weak on toughness. try us out. you might like us, or you might not. this is NOT a straight forward army, and they will NOT play the same way every time, as a nid army, or a necron army might. they have one of the most vast arsenals available, you just need to make killer lists, and prepare for some crushing defeats while you learn your army. good luck!!

You don't necessarily have to be good at all. You can coast pretty well with some unkillable units.
