Default Two or more Fire Prisms = Overkill?

What is your take on fielding Fire Prisms in high numbers - cheesey?

I plan on taking 2 at least in my upcoming Eldar project dun dun dun....

I just see the Fire Prism as the Eldar version of the Hammerhead. Just smashing any enemy in any situation with the solo and linked shots.

id never take more or less than 2 prisims.

just one is loosing out on the special rules, and 3 is restricting your other heavy suppor choices too much. though, 3 does give you more options with the combined shooting approach.

2 would be the right number for me, though tbh i dont think theyre as good on the table as they are in print, but i love the idea of them (and how its like old epic used to be) so thats enough to make me recoment a hearty TWO!

I never use any in the comp I go to as they get blasted very quickly. I use the Reapers and Wraithlords and if possible with points alocation War Walkers with Missile launcher, using the Farseer and guide to help them on their way. You only need a canot move or fire to make the item redundant. With only have one shot even twin linking getting the re rolll ther is never enough level 3 cover to hide behind.

2 is just the right number IMHO.
linking shots can take down big mobs or smaller well armoured mobs. 2 linked shots is S10 AP2!! that will instant kill half of a GK termy squad.

even if you dont link shots, two fire prisms can waste an entire brood of hormagaunts if they are packed stupidly together.
3 is too much, because you restrict other choices like falcons and war walker squadrons.

2 fire prisms is just right. They last for a long time if you give them holo-fields and vectored engines. That has saved me more than 90% of the time!
Overkill is what makes 40K fun!

Yea I agree fully with Dead Commando 3 is mos def too much and it can be for other things, be that something else in the HS section or the points on something else

2 also gives you the chance to support each other and both flanks

I fully agree with Dead and canada199 here! 2 is the right number to go for, and I use them a lot! Every game I play in 40k I always try to take 2 Fire Prisms. Give them both Vectored Engines and Holo-fields, and make sure you just move them both 12" every turn (just keep them at the back of the board!) and they are unstoppable! A strength 6 AP3 large blast? Marine killer! When they hit, as they often do, they waste just about anything, and are unkillable. Most of my opponents at my local store don't even bother trying to shoot them now!

1 isn't enough, as they can't kill Marines without a twin-linked shot (large blast all the way!) and 3 are too much, as they'll still wound T4 on 2+, and Marines or Necrons won't get a save anyway, so the extra Fire Prism is completely worthless. At 170 points each, wasting points on 1 that does nothing just isn't worth it.

So, enjoy your Eldar force, Emperor!

Just one question tough, how large would a battle have to be for you to bring 4 Prisms and use them in pairs?

Hmm.... but then he`ll also have twice as many Marines

What can a SM player use to efficiently take out a prism?

Anyway, 4 Prisms sound a lot more humane than 3 'Liths

But with that many points there will many other things apart from thr Prisms occupying their attention!

I must get some for my Eldar and give them a try - My Eldar force is lacking in any kind of armour...totaly infantry based!

Maybe apocalypses will give us rules for artillery/armor detachments

OOOOO I think it would be fun if they could keep linking up after 2 so the beam is amplafied again and again maybe becoming a titan killer or lance weapon with AP 1

Or I may just be sick

Who knows-they are getting some guchi rules by the looks of it -look in the Apocalpse thread (no mention of the prism though).

Do many people take two Prisms in a normal size battle (1500 points ish)?

no no I mean since theres only 3 heavy choices you can only take 3 prisms but then I thought since rules for larger battles are coming out then maybe there will be rules for extra heavy support slots or separate detachments of heavy support stuff

They're so good! Definitely worth it, even in 1000 points... try it, guys, and see what you think! Just make sure you take Holo-fields and Vectored Engines. With them, they're unkillable!
