Default Vibro Cannons - The Must Spam heavy support?

I am seeing what you guys think about this thing.

Pack 3 heavy support choices with em.

Rip 36'' over terrain and units, no LOS needed

-Str 6 d6 pinning hit PER unit line touches.
-Instant glance

150 pts per 3x batteries or 100 per 2x.

This would rip up vehicles, stun mech armies, make points back vs swarming armies. So why don't I see this unit fielded often? heh.

because every power gamer thinks them useless tripe? because people think that the flying circus is invincible?? because everyone always overlooks a gun the second they see the word 'pinning'???

in all honesty, i think that we're damn lucky so few players have noticed just how godly the things really are...
i know i plan on eventually packing 3 vibro cannons + 3 d-cannons for an all-guardian based list!

cheers!

Must not.. let fiancee.. read..

In all honesty.. 2x units of 3x vibro cannons... and 1x of 3 d-cannons is just deadly

my only problem is that i also want lots of warwalkers and perhaps a fire prisim or two...

it really is a tough choice! 3x warwalkers w/2 scatter lasers = 24 S6 shots/turn... but a fire prisim has a decent strength ap4 large blast?! and then, there's still the support batteries to squeeze in there!

why can't eldar have a 4th heavy support slot to take into account all of our tasty, wicked options?!!

cheers!

This is why people invented Apoc... so you can throw the FOC out the door!

Luckily however, normal games only allow for 3 Heavy Support...

i still think an all guardian army should have at least a 4th heavy support choice!
i mean, it's only guardians, how evil could it really be right?!!

but yes, my apocalypse version will be 2 fire prisims, 2 support batteries and at least 6 war walkers - maybe 9...
i'll buy out the store's supply the second one of the local young eldar cheese monkies wants some war walkers... just to get under his skin!

aren't your local GW staff the friendliest bunch of hobby supporters you've ever met?!

cheers!

So i'm messing with lists but I can't find the right balance.

If you take all three slot vibros.. you have some serious firepower gaps.. how to compensate?

or you can take two batteries, but what to fill the third? hmm..

I'd take two, fill the third with all scatter laser war walkers. Pretty solid HS supports there.

Is it just me.. Or do dark reapers seem rather under whelming for what should be a bad ass aspect?

Problem with Dark Reapers is that they cant move and shoot so you have to risk them a bit to get any use out of them, and if you are lucky enough to get some shots off with them, dont expect to see them in the next turn!

I think this is why I have avoided Vibro's because Eldar have so many cool Heavy choices and only 3 slots! I love a 2 Fire Prism combo it's fantastic against Marines!

I do not condone a Harly army though any Eldar player using more than one Elite slot for them - smell of stilton IMO!

why thank-you good sir!

ikarus: i'd go for war walkers which also have the scout special rule or else a fire prisim w/holofields.

or why not really mess your opponent up and take 3x vibro cannons & 3x d-cannons?! you'll still force lots of pinning tests, but now you can also create a nice little 24" warp-zone effect too!
your opponent/s will have to decide between the lesser of two evils; stay back out of range of those nasty d-cannons and get hit by vibro cannons, or else try and hunt down the d-cannons and get mugged by the rest of the eldar army!

of corse, adding in a fire prisim to float about and blast anything that comes out of hiding will simply be icing on the cake!

cheers!

And nice icing as well, as it is entirely possible to wipe out an entire squad of ten marines in one shot! (well with two linked, but who's counting!)

well.....the support platforms seem too static for me to be really want i want from my eldar.

my army is going to be either in a transport or on a jetbike.
guardians are too weak to weather alot of fire, and too slow to get away from it. they just dont have any survivability aspect.

dont get me wrong, they are really good guns. it seems like they should be able to be mounted on a fire prism, like the tau hammerhead (were you can take the railgun, smart missle system, or ion gun)

also, war walkers do seem to be like a fast attack choice rather then heavy support, like sentinals. their discription say they are scouts....so why the HS slot? aak!
o well.

And here we see the other side of the eldar coin, so to speak, in Dan. the mech, quick assault.

Thing is, Guardians don't often draw fire because of that exact reason Dan: everyone thinks they are worthless. Besides, you forget, they have fleet. They're faster than most infantry on the board already.

ok good thread so far.

consider this though.

a dev squad in a rhino unloads just outside the range of the vibros and unload with a load of krak missiles..... yeah. hard to deal with.

Hence why I would have things more valuable out there. Like harlies, banshees, etc.. And if they ignore them, then the cannons tear them up. They ignore the other stuff for the cannons, it tears them up.

IIRC, all the support weapons are indirect-fire weapons? you shouldn't ever be in line of sight.
if they're not indirect, then deploy them in some good cover like you would anyways with regular guardians! (or most eldar for that matter...)

the big problem though for the enemy if he/she thinks they can just sit back out of range to nutralise your support batteries, is that they're very likely not achiving the mission objective! so let them sit back and give you an easy go of say, taking and holding that central building which is in range of both your d-cannons & vibro cannons!

cheers!
