| I'm unfamiliar with this bit of jargon. Can someone give me an explanation so I can argue about it. It sounds bad already.

Blog Entries: 1 | The only camping I now of is in video games when you stake out a position waiting for an enemy player. Thats probably not what you wanted to know. ![]() |

Blog Entries: 1 | sounds almost like backlining, the practice of setting up as far back as possible and not moving for the entire game. it makes for a very boring 40k experience for you and your opponent as a backliner's turn involves a shooting phase and not much else.

Blog Entries: 2 | Camping is when you set up yur minis and do not move them. Most people call this setting up a firebase. The reason people hate it is that they have to come to you. My opinion here is simple. If you do not like a tactic used by another player either don't play them or come up with a way to counteract the tactic being used. After all isn't tactics what this game is about? You never have this argument in chess.... |

Blog Entries: 4 | It is a recognised military tactic-generaly known as a hedgehog (after the animal of the same name which curls up into a prickly ball to ward off attackers) though it probably has other names as well (before I get flamed) Basicly form your troops into a solid wall on everyside and dont attack-just let the enemy come to you and defend like hell (no matter how tempting it seems to break out) and mow into them everytime they advance. This can be done at the squad level (the Roman tortoise, the Napoleonic anti-cavalry square are all variations on this) up to the city level-the Russians did it during the German adavance during WW2 they fell back from cities leaving them as thorns in the side of the enemy which they could not crack |

| The Great Wolf ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I hate this tactic...which is why I have changed my tactics to include an armor column with an assault spearhead... yeah I'm coming to get ya and when I hit yer lines all hell will break loose...point blank with 20 HB and LC is a real ***** to defend against...and let us not forget the 2 snipers and whirlwind I employ just to make sure you keep yer head down while I'm coming to get you... ![]()

| well ive learned while playing my IG that i have to employ this tactic at least for the first couple of turns before i advance anything you just cant sound the advance when all you have is very hot flashlights even if its 60 of them but if you sit and bring the enemy into your interlocking fields of fire and you take 2 shots that is alot of dice and something has to die. then you advance to take territory or objectives but that is just with my guard

| Also in this tactica forum there is a back-lining thread which is similar to camping but I can see an appreciable difference and more of a tactical sense in camping versus back-lining. I agree that whatever has you win a guess is a viable tactic. I've stopped arguing about that gem. I have the perfect tactical answer to camping/back-lining/hedge-hogging. I like to play scenarios. I've played a game where I lost by piles of victory points but my opponent camped and couldn't have won from the start. This game was an Alpha level Recon. We all know that there are basically scenario games and kill 'em all games. Imperial Guard don't benefit from Fearless/Know No Fear/etc. so I tend to prefer scenarios and I enjoy the added tactical aspect. Though you can never forget those 6 hour kill 'em all battles. That's where heroes are made. So let me make a point already. Camping is not a viable tactic for a well balanced army, and you will lose most scenarios with a army geared for it. You will however have a very strong army when you are placed in a defensive scenario.

| ive learned the best counter to backliners hands down is wolf scouts or a good basilisk range guess backlining and camping are 2 seperate things backliining you are just trying to stay in range and keep falling back to stay out of assault usualy used by tau players camping is just staying put but you have to break camp sometime to advance and with the close orderdrills its a vary good defensive stance against rapid moving hordes

| The Dark Apostle ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | well theres a very simple way to break through this. ordanance ordanance ordanance. piles of missle launchers, morters, and other artillary peices raining hell on a particular part of their line, then you throw an armoured spearhead assault (LR Crusader + 10 assault terminators) to break through their line. suicide deep strikers (demo charges?) is also another line breaker.

Blog Entries: 4 | Just to be devils advocate some counter thoughts Ordanance yes-provided they havent got good armour saves Landraider + Assault Terminators- They have to get there first, the enemy will be hitting you hard-its a formation designed to withstand assaults, a properly prepared hedgehog should have tank traps and minefields/razorwire. Landraiders are big, they can block your line of sight. Once you have engaged with youre 10 marines its them against a dug in enmy because you can fire on them anymore... Deepstriking-nope, if the enemy is deployed well enough you will lose all your men when they come in |

| The Dark Apostle ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | but thats why you send a suicide deep strike squad. a friend does it to me all the time with his tau, he sends a 3 man stealth suit squad with fusion blasters in to take out a big points tank or injured deamon prince.

Blog Entries: 1 | gotta love mystics for that. they are the best response to deepstrikers in the world, although a plasma cannon 2 plasma guns and 2 sages for the reroll do better against termies.
