Blog Entries: 1 | Well, what exaclty are you looking for in your army? Tactical flexibility, power or character? What do you like about each race? I would suggest Space Wolves, because, in my opinion, Space Marines are a good army for beginers. But if you're looking for an answer sayign which army is the best, thats a hot topic, since Games Workshop attempts to balance its races. |

Blog Entries: 1 | They're mindless, the Space Wolves are far better ![]() As Tarik Torgaddon said in Horus Rising, they're clinically insane.

| Trooper ![]() | It really boils down to the style of play you have. Those three armies are pretty much the opposites of each other, particularly Space Wolves and Eldar. If you favour fast, short-ranged firefights, Eldar would be the best choice, with their speed and large amount of short-ranged, assault weapons. The 'Nids are a close-combat optimised force, and apart from a few specialist cases (sniperfexes, dakkafexes, etc.), their shooting is relatively poor. Space Wolves fall somewhere between the two, Long Fangs are some of the best ranged units in the game, True Grit makes the Grey Hunters effective units in close-combat, as well as short-range firefights, and despite their lower weapon skill, Blood Claws are good assault units with their hidden power fists.

| *dan huddled in a corner* "bugs bugs bugs bugs bugs bugs bugs bugs" theyre the best. there is nothing more satisfying to see 2000 points take up an entire side of a 6X4 table. theyre also the most flexible army there is! think about it. you can have an entire genestealer army, a nidzilla army, a shooty nid army (ive seen it, it works,) a warrior army (5 broods of 9 warriors and lots of rippers) a swarm, or a mix of all of em. |

| For a 1st army... I'd say at least get maybe 1000 pts of a space marine army, not a focused one, like Space Wolves, just a plain old vanilla space marine army. That way, you get good experiance of how to play the game. The 'nids aren't an easy army to use for beginners(that is, if you have no wargaming experiance whatsoever), but when used right they are vicious! As for the space wolves... never used 'em or seen 'em in action, but, from what I hear they're assaulty, like nids, only more expensive (points wise). And who says nids aren't shooty? Warriors, Hive Tyrants, Biovores, Shooty 'fexes, Zoanthropes gargoyles... these are all shooty units (or can be optimised for shootiness).

Blog Entries: 1 | If you're looking for a difficult first army, pick Eldar, not Nids. They offer a steep learning curve, so are more helpful than nids in the long run.

| well, my advise is; pick the army that you like the of best! as going to spend a good deal of time and effort assembling your force, you may as well go for the one you think simply looks the coolest... it's really no use for us to tell you for example 'play blood angels 'cause they're dead 'ard!' only for you to realise you hate painting lots of assault marines and death company! don't worry too much about a killer army just yet... pick something you know you're going to like painting and use it to learn the basic rules and general tactics. cheers!

I remember a 500 pt game I played... my marine vs 'nids... basically it was who would die first, the dreadnought, or the Hive Tyrant...

| The Great Wolf ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well daiwe, I would say go for the pups...but then again I am biased as they are my fav...(see my return message)...How ever if you want to start with them take my advice and start simple...nothin fancy... and stick to the force chart...they work well if you can get em in close the first turn or two and then it's all sword play...the codex has a good starter force build up on page 16 or 17 I think...also check out the fluff and such for them...if it's something that you are definately into...(i.e. drunken, half wolf, half men, vikings who love to fight) then it's all good...other wise I would go with a previous suggestion and start with a generic SM chapter...SW have some special rules that can be a bit confusing in the heat of battle and even I have trouble remembering them sometimes...much to my dismay at times...LOL... Just my 2 cents...good hunting brother and may Russ watch over you...

| well nids arent a good starter army, IMHO, for people who have no experiance at all and dont have alot of people to help. nids arent a good start, though i love the little critters, because its just a qwerky army. you kinda have to say "well that unit of hormagaunts just got pwned. o well, moving on." synapse is tricky, not alot of shooty anti-tank as MoW said, and extreme specialization can be hard to master. for example, i have seperate lists for space marines, guard, and tau. i dunno, i was going to do nids for my first army but a red shirt had a long speach on why i should do somethin else first. i forget most of what he said. but if you guys help him out with it, sure theres nothin wrong with them having them as his first army with alot of vets supporting him with em |
