| Heya folks! So my friend Brian just started an Eldar army and it consists of: 1 Box-o-Farseer + 3 Warlocks 1 Box-o-Rangers (5) 1 Box-o-Dire Avengers (6 or 7?) Well thats what hes got and I know its tiny and not much but I was wondering, based on this info: Hes going to fighting: -Nids (tons of gaunts)(flying tyrant w/scything talons)(duel/venomcannon carnifex) -Grey Knights (pure)(Just your basic squads of guys + a terminator squad and maybe a dreadnought) -IG (Demolisher,Lemun Russ, Two Chimeras, and the usual gang of lots of infantry) So we don't know anything about eldar tactics or how they play. The codex even seemed a little funky at first but maybe were stupid lol All we know so far is: -Farseers should probobly not be charged into battle? -Rangers = lots of dead infantry -Dire avengers fire alot of little shurikens that REALLY tear the heck out of Joes IG squads lol. Any tips or tricks? Vehicles that he needs? Weapons he needs? Tactics to Employ? Brian needs all the help he can get! Hes doing pretty good for a beginner, but my termies and Joes Lemun russ are killin him. ![]() |

| Well, a good thing for use against nids, GK and IG are Fire Prisms. Take a couple of them and they can splat swarms and take wounds of MC's, whole IG sqauds (especially heavy weapon platoons) and take out their light vehicles, and of course combine beams to obliterate SM sqauds. Dire Avengers with an Exarch with 2 Shruiken Catapults and Bladestorm are good. They'll be able to lay down lots of fire on the move, and on the final shooting phase before they are assaulted or shot back at they can bladestorm to take down a big swarm or a sqaud of Marines. Against tanks Swooping Hawks are very nice, give 'em haywire grenades and they can easily take down 2+ tanks a game. Eldar tatics are: MOVE! Unless you are using things like Dark Reapers or Rangers, you want to constantly move your troops about to exploit your assault weapons bonus. Tool Fire Prisms up right and they can move more than 6 inches (and so claim the 'downgrade to glancing hit' bonus), with no negatives from doing it. The only times you should stay still are: if you are in cover, and need to stay there to avoid being blown to bits by medium AP weapons, or a swarm is running towards you! Stay back, and then just move backwards firing at the enemy. Well, I'll probably be able to think of some more things to help later... I hope this was helpful!

| well, your mate should have 10 dire avengers in total... if he's interested, have him bitz order 1 sprue and then he'll have enough models to build 12 regular avengers & 3 exarchs! (giving him a model for each of the 3 different exarch weapon fits.) as moose pointed out, the exarch should always, always have the bladestorm power - it's bloody nasty! as for farseers, well they can take upto 4 powers in total and with the spirit stones upgrade they can use upto 2/turn. as for their powers; - Doom: a decent range and its usefull when you need to ensure that, that one particularly nasty enemy squad must die! (handy vs things like termies with their high armour save or really tough things like 'fexes) - Fortune: well, you can re-roll armour/invulnerable/cover saves! handy at times, but most people expect it anyways! - Guide: very usefull for casting on say a unit of war walkers with star cannons or any other BS3 unit. - Mind War: never leave home without it! use it every turn to pick out those annoying power fist armed veteran sergeants and the like! - Eldritch Storm: an often over-looked power as most people scoff at the low S3 it has... still, you can't ever sneeze at a pie-plate and it's a real laugh to cast it on an enemy vehicle! finally for now, tell your mate to get himself a fire prisim. trust me, that dispersed shot will absolutely rape anything not wearing power armour! give it a holo-field and opponents will really have a helluva time trying to knock it out of the sky... cheers!

| Falcons are generally considered one of the best (if not THE best) tanks in the game. I would highly recommend he buy one of these over the Fire Prism. The Falcon's advantages are: - High rate of fire-on-the-move, especially if equipped with dual shuriken cannons or scatter laser/shuriken cannon. Unfortunately, leave the star cannons at home this edition. - Equiped with Holo-field and Spirit Stone its incredibly resiliant - Can turbo boost 24" a turn, 36" with upgrades. - Limited transportation abilities for a squad of 6 or less. One of two 'taxis' in the 40K universe (land raider being the other) the Falcon can deliver small specialized squads to where they're needed (Fire Dragons, Banshees, etc.) or bail out depleted squads who are 'tactically withdrawing'. The Fire Prism got better this edition, but I still think Falcons are the better choice. Against Nids, he should upgrade his Rangers to Pathfinders and find a nice peice of terrain to hunker down in. Use their Sniper rifles to take out the big things and synapse creatures. The Dire Avengers should stay static as well, preferably in cover, directing their Bladestorm against Genestealers and other large broods coming their way. The Farseer/Warlocks should cast Doom on the same brood the Avengers are targeting while standing forward and prep'ing for the interception. Their 4+ invulnerable saves should help them weather the storm, although he'll be rolling a lot of them. Destructor on the warlocks should help for those seconds before that painful first wave. Grey Knights and IG will hump him unless he starts getting more Wave Serpents and AP3 weaponry. |
