Default New codex army for 1500 point comp

Hi all I have played 40 for numerous years and now giving chaos a go.

Please look at the army it will be going into a comp in which 6, 1500 point games will be played using variuus scenarios etc.

Deamon Prince with wings dedicated to Tz
8 thousand sond sorcerer with Bolt of change
6 raptors 2 with plasma pistols 1 champion with Lightning Clkaws dedicated to Tz or Ng
8 Troops a champion rhino and 1 melta gun
4 bikers and champion 1 melta and 1 power fist dedicated to Tz
Grater Deamon
7 havocks with 2 auto cannons and 1 Laz Cannon
1 pred with Heavy bolters

well that it all coming in at 1499 points and is designed to take on all comers.

apologies, but at least to me, the list isn't clear.

in squads are you saying that in each case the champion is included in the 1st number? for instance the raptors are 6 in total of which 1 is a champ?

but anyway, i will look at the list now as i think it is written.

why not give your daemon prince psychic powers? warptime and BoC for instance?

your ksons. i would go with doom bolt everytime. ksons are meq killers, not anti armour. BoC on the sorceror split the role and the effectiveness.

Raptors. 8-10. these guys are going to get shot at, and with 6 in a squad, you might as well not take them.

Bikers. at least 1 more.

Havocs. again, you are mixing the roles. the autocannon could cope with light armour, but then why not go with missile launchers?

Pred. consider ditching the bolter sponsons and taking TLLC and Daemonic Possession. basically you need more anti armour as a backup.

You could also do with squeezing some Rhinos in to make your troops a bit more maneuverable.

I realise you are pushed for points at 1.5k, so not all of my suggestions are possible (if in fact you go with them anyway) but i guess what i am saying is that in essence, i wouldn't replace any units, but the ones that are there need tweaking.

As you say Drax, points is a problem. I dont like the laz cannomns on the pred as I like to move 6 and fire. The squads are the mumber of figures plus a champion. Dont like fielding more bikes as this will reduce everything else due to the cost. The havocs I usualy go wirh the 2 shot S7 idea but I had 15 points so upgraded to a Laz Cannon. I dont think I need rhinos for manoverability as with Bikes, Raptors and aDP with wings I can cover lots of the Battle field.

you can fire the twin linked lascannon and move up to 6".

the problem you have is that with the sizes and configurations you have chosen, your melee units are underpowered. 2 dead and the raptors start to take tests. 1 dead and its the same story with the bikes.

also, and this is a big one, you have 2 weapons in a 1.5k army that can acheive a penetrating hit on an AV13 vehicle, and a glancing hit on AV14. and both those weapons are stuck in squads with weapons that have different roles. so either you sacrifice the anti armour weapons so the rest of the unit can do the job they were designed for, or you sacrifice the a whole unit for 1 weapon to try and kill a tank.

just my thoughts on it.

hmm...with his inv save of 4+ and wings he is a tough combat monster so whilst it would be nice to give him a psychic power (or 2) if you had the points its not a neccessity

8 Thousand Sons Sorcerer with Bolt of Change
I prefer Bolt of Change to Doom Bolt in this unit (though Celephus has raised a valid point), it has the same range as the 1K Sons' bolters and adds a high strength weapon if they ever encounter something that either needs instant killing or cant be brought down with Str4 weapons.

6 Raptors, 2 with plasma pistols, 1 Champion with Lightning Claws. dedicated to Tz or Ng
i'd suggest changing the plasma pistols to either melta guns or flamers, partly because i dont like plasma weapons but also because you wont get the full use of them. After all its not like your going to stand still at 12" or less so your raptors can fire. I'd suggest you dedicated them to Nurgle for the toughness boost, the Inv save looks like a good deal but with such a small squad a save of 5+ isn't going to save enough for the pts cost whereas in combat the +1T will help them hold their own against slightly larger units.

8 Troops, a Champion, Rhino and 1 Melta Gun
Good choice, solid number with good manouverability.

4 bikers and Champion 1 Melta and 1 Power Fist dedicated to Tz
for the same reason as the raptors i'd suggest you dedicate them to Nurgle except in this case it will raise them to T6 (except when deciding instant death). For such a small unitthe fact that heavy bolters require a 5+ to wound and anything less a 6+ is extremely useful- charging that line of guardsmen? the fact it will take 36 lasguns to take down each biker is something to think about...

Greater Daemon
not a fan of this but if it distracts from your much more dngerous Daemon Prince then hopefully it'll do well (though if you do need the points i'd drop this fella to get them)

7 Havocs with 2 Autocannons and 1 Lascannon
Gotta agree with Celephus on this one, this unit is too split in its roles. Change the lascannon back to an autocannon and use them to take down light vehicles and infantry

1 Predator with Heavy bolters
This should be helpful against horde armies, if you give the Raptors Melta guns it shouldn't be neccessary to give the Pred lascannons

All in all it looks like a decent army thought im not too thrilled with the Greater Daemon, you've got a fair chunk of your 1500pts tied up in 2 models that may cost you a game if they die early on. Against MEQs you should do well but I'd worry about fast moving horde armies like Tyranids or heavily armour forces like Tank-heavy IG or mechanised Tau.

the greater daemon is just sitting there wasting points, I'd say drop him for another CSM squad in a rhino just me though.

Drop the greater daemon. Get other squads, or bulk up your remaining one to bigger numbers. Chaos has lost the vet skills and such, so for assault and other things they now have to bulk up like SM.
