| well in a recent game, i had the pleasure of earning my opponent's distaste because of how i picked out his prized vet sergeant... under the 'torrent of fire/blows' rules, you can pick the 1st enemy model in a unit to make it's armour save provided you cause more wounds than there are models in that unit during a single volly of shoots or blows in an initiative step! so, being rather clever and quite offensive, i dropped an infantry squad 5" from my opponent's nasty assault squad which contained his rather expensive vet sergeant w/power fist, plasma pistol, combat shield, bionics & artificer armour. i shot my grenade launcher first and killed 1 assault marine bringing the squad down to 5 models total. then the lasguns opened up causing a total of 6 wounds! so i asked my opponent to roll 1 save on his sergeant. he wasn't pleased when he failed and then he failed 2 more saves to top if all off... and thus the brillance, (and dumb luck!) of my plan paid off as his assault marines were forced to take a moral test on Ld7 instead of Ld8 and failed, only to be forced right off the table next turn as he was still within 6" of another of my units! of corse, afterwards my opponent put forth his opinion that i was being rather underhanded in my tactics... but there you all go! an effective way to pick on those models you've always really wanted too. just keep in mind that the model you want to single out of corse needs to be in range of the attack to being with! cheers!

| I've thought about this one... lovely torrent of fire. Smash 'em with your rapid firing weapons.

| space marines (loyalist & chaos) and eldar especially are brutal at making good use of this rule! marines in general excel in close range fire-fights due to their high T and healthy armour save, while the eldar have so many multi-shot weapons they can group into squads it's not funny! tau crisis suits can also be used to good effect by loading them out with twin-linked burst cannons. and of corse, and fire warrior squad/s in a transport can quickly get into rapid fire range without suffering casulties... when i get around to my promised marine army, i think i'll most likely include a unit of termies w/heavy flamer... deep strike 'em and shoot the flamer first to (hopefully!) thin out some numbers and then open up with the storm bolters to pick off that dirty, evil plasma gunner! cheers!

| Extremis Diabolus ![]() ![]() | This is indeed a nifty little rule, although apparently the Necron Monolith's Particle Whip can single out models... But yeah, this merely proves the folly of the too-well-equipped veteran sergeant. He's a sergeant, not a Captian.

Anyhow, I often forget about torrent of fire, and I play the kind of SM army that can really benefit from it. Nice little rule, though. Of course, if you want to reliably pick out the pesky upgraded squaddies, you can always take the Vindicare Assassin, so long as you have an Inquisitor in your army. ![]() | |

Blog Entries: 4 | As I tell so many people (well those i can corner long enough to listen to me ramble), weight of fire will win the day everytime-forget trying to get AP weapons at high points cost! Ok you might remove your enemies armour save but it normaly comes at a high points cost/limited number of shots/ties down the rest of the unit to doing nothing for a turn! Fire enough shots at anyone and they will fail an armour save eventualy (with scary regularity). Ive seen terminators fall to massed Lasgun fire and with the new Eldar "Bladestorm" for the Dire Avengers 30+ shots in one turn from one unit.... |
