worst loss i've yet suffered at the hands some weedy, over-fed and horribly spoiled little grot has to be one of my converted snipers...
the wee brat was running around and had found a nice, big, heavy box-set of action figures and proceeded to try and grab it off the shelf. of corse, the little toe rag droped it! i managed to get my arm in the way and thus my mortar squad was saved, but the corner of the box landed squarely on top of my sniper...
honestly, i've never seen a model explode like that before. i managed to find the gun (minus the extended barrel which was nowhere in sight!), the main body and one arm, but the guy's head (one of the new metal van sar ganger heads w/night vision goggles), the left arm and the gun barrel were lost... not to mention the fact the dumb kid managed to step on the figure 'cause he thought it was a bug! so a good chunk of the cammo on the legs got fraged too

all-in-all, it was about 7-8 hours of hard work that was gone... *cry* i can't bring myself to cut my losses and just bin what's left of the model, but every time i look at what's left of my once glorious model, my eyes well up at the memory and i feel like hurting the next person to come within arms reach!!!
to top it all of, the dumb little kid's mum actualy told the little brat, 'oh, now you should say your sorry for breaking that little girl's toy soldier dear.' (three guesses where i told her to go for being such an ignorant and stupid person...)

god, i still feel like crying over my poor sniper i didn't give a damn about my arm as even a hockey stick can't break it! but basically an entire day's converting and painting gone...
oh well, at least it wasn't my sniper 'sergeant' that bought it!

cheers!

I hate little kids like that. I tend to play only against people who I have seen play and like their person - they're friendly and polite. My phone gets turned off when I'm in a game and I don't touch people's models without asking first.

Noobs really tick me off. They come in with their inch-layer thick shining gold painted Tau models and try to get away with taking every special issue item on a Shas'o, and then don't believe you when your Aspiring Champion with a Power Fist insta-killed it, or when they think that they can move and shoot with their lascannons.

Whenever kids come into the store, I keep my models and case in sight always. If I have the models out and I see a child's hand, my voice immediately goes from laughing about 6 failed terminator saves out of 6 to "Dude! Don't touch ANYONE'S models unless they give you permission!"

I choose to ignore the ignorant parents. When they ask if I painted the models myself, I continue playing. Quite often I'll be in the middle of a conversation and someone will come in and try to talk to me, last time someone did that I told them to piss off (and this is my girlfriend's friend!) because I find it rude to come in and try to interrupt a conversation just to ask how someone is. When I enter the store it's a simple shake of the hand as a greeting if someone's in a conversation.

The iPod or other portable music device in the ear is a shocking habit and should be outlawed. If I'm talking to someone I will stop, or physically remove the headphones from their ears.

The one thing that really, REALLY gets me annoyed is when you're playing a game and a little kid comes up and does one of two things: 1. asks if he can "join in", and 2. gets out his shoebox, pulls out his models with some resemblance to an Ultramarine and just sits it on the table, expecting to play!!

On the weekend, I had to put up with so many of these... little... arghs!... that I got home and was unable to tolerate communicating with anyone who is under the age of 14 or has an extremely limited vocabulary or attention span. Thusly, my temper rose in the heat and I spent four hours watching the Cricket and wondering why Australia didn't force the follow on.

Freaking NOOBS!! *angry faces!*

yes yes we all had our moments. For instance the Chicago Bunker was open for the 48hrs straight, its a special thing that they do once a year. Anyways this kid no younger then 6 or 7 we "sneakly" stealing peoples models from under the gaming tables. He was later caught, but he had over 1000 worth of models. Nothing special either and they were all really random. Anways the bunker asked him to leave, and (oh get this) his mom did nothing! She said what he did was not a bad thing and that it was OK..... OK... OK!

BUT let us not forget. Some of these kids are the back bone of the hobby. Keep in mind they shovel countless dollars thus feeding the machine....lol and all for nothing to them cause Im sure they will find a new fad... Let us not forget 40k is a hobby, not a fad like Pokemon was...oh god those were grim days

didn't this thread start as an on table nuisance discussion?

1 thing i find a bit bothersome is marine players that think like guard players and take 6 max sized tac squads. do you have any idea how hard it is to kill 60+ t4 power armoured bodies? and without any kit it only costs 900 pts so they can load up on land speeders and a few transports.

i have no problems with kids in general wanting to play 40k as they are inevitably the hobby's future...
what annoys me most are the few hyper-active/spoiled rotten little ingrates! as cypher pointed out, the ones who figure that because their dad's a lawyer, they can butt it and join in your game on turn 3 with their 'paint blob' models. or else they try and pull so many fast-ones on you it goes beyond funny to downright irritating... (god i hate halton region - soooooo many spoiled rich kids who think they're to be worshiped!!!)
grabing your models off the gaming table, even though you're in the middle of a game is beyond my ability to tolerate! (and this was at a tournament too )

again, i don't mind helping out a young neophyte with their painting skills or when they have trouble understanding certain rules, (especially when it concerns guard and their unique organisation!) but when i have to tell the same little toe rag for the 6th week running he can't combine the 'zerker glaive w/d.flight *and* d.speed for a roughly 36" or so 1st turn charge, i feel like thumping him a good one...
kid; 'but i want to do that 'cause it's so 'uber'
me; 'well you can't because it says so right here in the 3rd printing of the 'dex. it's a little thing called "game balence", see?!'
kid; 'well, my codex doesn't say i can't so i can' (and sticks his tounge out for good measure...)
me; 'and where is your codex?'
kid; 'i didn't bring it, but i've memorised it.'
me; 'well, you're to use the most current printing of the 'dex anyways, so please make your prince legal else i won't play you.'
kid; 'my mum says i don't have to use the other rules and you can't make me and you're just afraid of losing you cheater.'
me; 'hmmmm... good-bye!'

mind you, there's a number of older players who are just as bad as the kids, and i find these people (if possible) to be even more annoying! usually because you find them at tournaments and they like to knock your sportsmanship score because you pointed out they've been cheating for example with how rending works against vehicles...
it's even more fustrating when it's
a) the tourny organiser who's trying to find some flaw in what the rulebook says!
b) he gets his mates to play you for the last 2 rounds and they knock your sportsmanship score because you tried to make someone play by the rules...

cheers!

cheers!

I have NEVER come across anyone like that. Thank god!

I do, however, despise one particular player who claims he can shoot at you because his model has line of sight to the VERY end of a cannon, and only because he's looking at an angel.

yes, sadly these over-privalidged, whiney little brats aren't disciplined all that harshly by our store's staff because they usually buy a brand new army every other week or so! (must be nice to have *that* much cash to blow...)

and yes, those 'funny' measurements/lines of sight are always a sore spot... also one of the main reasons i'm glad there's no guessing ranges anymore - the cheating was beyond belief!
i like to keep a little piece of string on hand at all times as it's helpfull to simply pull it out and draw a proper line of sight with it (also stops alot of arguements too!)

cheers!

thats a good idea - too many people i know use the actual tape mesure to check los (as though turning it around hides the numbers!). insane!

I use the tape measure, there's nothing wrong with it. It's a perfectly straight line.

it depends on orientation, if the tapes horizontal with the ground its ahrd to make an unbiased straight line and you shouldnt use a tape because you can spy the numbers on it, which many poeple do round here.

We tilt a tape measure so that we can't see the numbers, or we put it completely upside down. Simple solution.
