You tease... This is mean! I'd like to see your views on this type of army gaming given our IM chat the other night!

Well Ikarus I don't know if this counts but I recently bought a carnifex 5 pack

So

Army?

-Tyranids

Comprimised?

-Take 7 Carnifexs (Mace Tail, Crushing Claws, Scything Talons, Acid Tongue, I can't remember it all but the works ) <--str 10 reroll wound city!

How they win?
-Get into melee...

How they lose?
-Don't?

Two friends of mine and myself recently played an apocalypse battle. It was a two versus one. An Eldar, and myself (Nids) versus an IG player who was fortified.

The idea being we were both simply cought attacking the same position at the same time. Well my Elday ally and the IG player both created normal army lists, the IG player using a Baneblade in his (this is a 3000 point Apocalypse game). However, since I was so happy about getting my 7 carnifexes up and constructed, and it IS Apocalypse, you can use anything...technically. I used 7 carnifexes for my 1673 or so points of our team.

I lost 1 carnifex and had 4 wounded halfway, but they destroyed everything.

I don't normally do this, and Indeed, I could probobly play with 10 orbitals if I wanted to in Apocalypse, but I thought it was funny, and we had a laugh.

Basic advatages:

It`s the quintessential min/max army

Even though you`re low on models you`ll never take casualties unless you`re loosing horibly.

You`re clowns won`t die from further than 24" away unless you`re really really really unliky

Basic disadvantage: You`ll have to dance a whole lot and try to get into meelee at the mest posible moment with the best posible target choice.

Just wait for stitch to drop by, she`ll give you technical advices

It simply doesn`t work if you`re using escalation rules

People won`t play with you again if you get it right.

how the flying circus works;
- zip about in the falcons for 5 turns blasting stuff with your pulse lasers & other long-ranged ap2 firepower.
- turn 6, disembark the clowns to kill some extra infantry and/or take objectives.

you're not really doing much other than dancing about for the first 4-5 turns taking a few pot shots at the most expensive enemy models... then you drop the clowns off to go do their rending trick on a couple of smaller squads which you can likely bring below 50% with your charge...

quite dirty if i do say so myself!

cheers!

lists like these are why I believe in rules like escalation... its a rule that all tournaments should use, at least on some maps... not to mention why sportsmanship should be a good part of your total score... Powergamers may still succeed in actual tersm of wins/loses... but they'll fail at sportsmanship and with the few maps they do lose at, they won't be winning any tournies!

Of course... this is not the thinking of GW...

I find the idea of seeing nothing but power gamers and their lists at the finals of the Grand Tourement quite scary...

lol i've played this army twice before, or at least similar versions of it. the tanks are painfully difficult to hit...lol. alternatively [while not necesarilly as "clowny" as the name might imply, i've seen this list with tons of dire avengers. their bladestorm can pretty much kill any ranged weaponry the opponent has while the harlies dance around, trying not to get hit, fleeting, and assaulting the crap out of unsuspecting enemies.

what's even more tasty about throwing avengers in is that you can shove them in a tanky thing for the turn they can't shoot [after bladestorm] fly around, find another suitable target, disembark and unleash terror again. they're also great assault hold-uppers, cause of their annoying CC abilities. they're not that good in CC but they're abilities make it worth it...and sucky when you tie up your opponent's dedicated CC squad[s] lol

the trick to killing harlequins, for those of you who are afraid of them [haha actually i am], is to pound bolter shots into them. they have crappy armor, and what you really have to get past is the weird limited vision thing..even then, they die like flies when you really start shooting at them...then again, i needed one entire 8 man squad to deal with 5 harlequins. just watch out...lol

Grey Knight Incinerators or Psycannons. Their save is actually an Invulnerable save, which gets negated by those weapons, and they'll both wound on 2+ to boot.

theres the 'Nidzilla' list

2 Hive Tyrants with upgrades

5-6 carnifexes with various upgrades

1500pts.

it hurts a lot but focussed firepower works wonders.

could, i've tried it. it's too risky getting that close. they have a guaranteed 13" ability to move towards their assault target, and it's just too dangerous to be there--nothing can stop them in CC ! the mention of psycannons might be interesting, actually. the GK's high save might help when they hit cc too :]

PSYCANNONS!

God they are great.

Oh... and a cheesy list?

Try this in 1K points..

Farseer
20x Pathfinders
3x Wraithlords.

How does it win? Shoots everything to hell at range, with two Wraithlords taking Starcannons and the other taking Brightlances.

How doesn't it? Necrons knock the crap out of them if they can get into range.. and Deep Striking units can ruin its day.

we had one of these beastly lists show up at astro toronto this past year... it did quite well in terms of wins/losses simply because there were so many 2+ saves coupled with T6/7. lots of dakka too with the main weapon symbiotes being 2x twin-linked devourers... (gotta love 'living ammo' unless you're on the reciving end of it?!!)

still, the guy playing the list was an ass, scored poorly in comp & got hosed in sportsmanship as he was rather arrogent about his list and it's jimmikiness...

cheers!

'dakka' is the orky term for 'shooty'... (basically the imitation of the barking noise the orky gunz make when they fire!)

it's used to describe heavy volumes of fire, so things like heavy bolter, ass-cans, scatter lasers and such have plenty of 'dakka' for killin' lots 'o runtz!

cheers!
