questiion about special characters

do they count twards there own requirement forinstance yarrak can be fielded in a IG army of 1500 points. can the army be 1500 points including yarrak or does it have to be 1500 points before you can add him to the list?

after all is said and done that army list should be at least 1500 points, yes that would be including Yarrik.

With out a doubt 1500 may then include Yarrick but you must have 1500 to field the little ******!

yep, those pts minimums do include the cost of the actual character - however, if you're playing a 1500pts game and wish to include, (in this case), yarrick then you must ensure your list is exactly 1500pts and not say 1496pts! (so yes, you need to spend every last point!)

also, you may include allied special characters like say, grey knight captain stern so long as you include the requisite amount of pts in allied troops. (so again, if you want to put stern in your guard army, then you'll need 1500pts+ of daemonhunters.)

This is true, but if you are only playing a 1500 point army list than the list must be exactly 1500 points, no more no less, because it states that the character may be included if the army is @ 1500, but you cannot go over the points cost in game terms. EASY solution, play games of more than 1500 points. I love my special characters for Dark Eldar, so I always play the tournament points cost @ 1750 and therefore have no issues.

really? huh. i heard that as long as the points limit for the game was high enough to meet the character's requirements then you could take them even if the final points added up to less than the total agreed.

well, if both you can your opponent agree, then you don't even need to actually meet the basic requirement! as long as both agree before hand, there's no reason why you can't take say brother captain stern in only a 1000pts game!
however, for any kind of 'offical' (re: tournament) play, then your list *must* be exactly 1500pts to take that character! (or at least however many pts the requirement demands...)

that's why all the new codicies are doing away with the mandetory pts requirments for special characters... people want to use those models because they are generally some of the best looking sculpts! so why can't someone go to any event and not be allowed to use their favourite model?!?
besides, special characters generally aren't the most 'uberfied things... sure there's the select few like abaddon or eldrad who are pretty damn nasty, but really, you can typically do the same thing any special character can do for less pts with just your basic HQ choice!

wait till 5th edition... those characters & special weapon/icon bearers and the like will become big targets!

and either way, mephiston doesn't have an invulnerable save so again, treat him + his death co buddies like you would any old plague marine; slap something big & S8+ on them and say bye-bye to their feel no pain save!
either that or get something faster than mephiston into combat with him!

Forgive me for coming un ultra late on this one, but isn't Yarrick's point requirement actually alot higher than 1500? I have the codex and could swear is much higher than that.

/ or was that point total just used as an "example"
