have you ever, ever hated getting bombed by a template when you are in between two hills and your squad is close together like you normally move them? well, heres a tactic that will lessen your losses to that template!

when moving a squad going into said scenario, move them but keep them 1(or 2, not sure on the coherency rules) inch apart from each other, they will still be in coherency, but will be spread out so a template can't nab them all!

but its common knowledge for a player when facing Ig or any other army that can kill you with different ordanance weaponry
to spread out your men to minimize casualties

its okay warmaster, actually, i know that, but i'd just thought i'd say it because i was reminded of it by the veterans at my local store, who DID NOT use the tactic. (very disturbing, mabe a stick beating is in order, oh thats right, i own a powersword)

A friend and I were discussing this strategy during the break in a tournament. Sure enough we played each other the next round. I had a Monolith, and he made sure that there was at least one close packed unit within range every turn it was out!! He just kept forgetting that moving units to an 1" or less against ordnance is bad...

I have played against a tank company, what i did with my DIY chapter was take 5 man squads and pack them as close as possible. The reason being that when the ordnance scatters it is more likely to miss the majority of the squad although there is a risk of a horrible hit roll. This has saved many, many tactical squads.

My two cents.

Its not so bad when it comes to 5 man squads as they are already a 'small' enough target as is. But when you are dealing with large squads that are 15-20+, thats when they start becoming big juicy targets for template weapons and thats when you start taking casulities if you dont loosen up your formations. Also remember that not all template weapons scatter.. i.e. flamers?

Lol never played against a flamer heavy sisters army have you?

Well dont get me wrong lol Its a great tactic I use to play my tau the same way. I would break up my firewarriors into tight teams of 6 and spread each team wide apart to minimize the amounts of casulties I would loose each turn.
