| well, considering the templars lack of reliable anti-tank, a predator w/twin-linked lascannon & heavy bolter sponsons is ace! the sponsons are cheap, plus they still let you do something if/when your opponent knocks out the big gun! a land speeder or two in seperate squadrons can provide some nice mobile support as well. (ass-cans to the rescue!) bikes w/3 meltaguns are your main tank-hunters due to their speed... also, don't be too afraid of running them through cover if the pay-off is potentially game winning! sure you might lose a bike or two if you're really unlucky, but if it'll net say, that enemy devastator squad or leman russ, then it's worth the risk! a small crusader squad in a razorback can also be used for anti-tank; the main draw-back here being the high pts cost of the razorback which is no more survivable than a simple rhino! still, if you're cleaver and use any available cover to help protect your approch, you can get a plasma gun or such into position for side/rear armour shots. cheers!

i would argue that you do need a castellan or chappy as typically the 'doesn't use-up a slot' options don't count for any mandetory choices IIRC... (yet another grey area sadly!) i'd honestly go with just a dirt cheap castellan w/power toy & bolt pistol... he's a slightly better veteran sergeant who'll only run you 61pts! a bit easier to handel than a chappy who'll cost you a hefty 70-80'ish pts minimum! cheers!

Blog Entries: 5 | hey there Luthor, just a few quick things. 1 try to avoid chat or l33t speak, its not that we cant speak it, we just dont like to use it. now as for your army list....i dont know much about Templars (i happen to be playing a templars army tonight, god willing ill come out alive. >< ) but what i do know is, the more you have the better it gets, there like voltorn. anyway, first of get a HQ choice sorted out, and then maybe think about bulking your squads up to 5 initiates and 5 neophtyes, after all, if the neo's get killed it just gets you into combat with your opponent quick, dosent it?

| never take the GW website as cannon... they make lots of mistakes and take decades to fix it! for example, one the empire page they actually have a listed tactic for their detatchments being; parent unit of 20 free companies + 2 free companies detachments. nice, simple... only problem is, it's actually illegal as only state troops can be parent units!!! ![]() basically, if a unit doesn't actually 'use-up' slots on the FOC, then it cannot be counted as one of your mandetory choices. (as it technically has no proper 'slot' - it simply 'counts as'...) so yes, you should still take a proper HQ as the champ doesn't take up any slot on the FOC. cheers!

Blog Entries: 1 | Basically you could use your EC as the only HQ in friendly games with your mates but once you start getting more pts then just do what Stitch suggests and get a cheap HQ, especially because the Castellan will mean that all your Initiates have Ld.9! Was looking through your list and I kept thinking that you didn't have enough troops in the smaller crusader squads until I saw it only amounted to 750pts- so your basic army is pretty rock solid. Before adding new units I'd suggest you concentrate on the units already present: add another Marine to each of the support crusader squads so they count as a scoring unit for longer (even numbered squads are always the way to go if you can manage it). Possibly get a Land Raider Crusader- and bundle your EC and large Crusader squad into it, but then again you might want to hold off on a LR and/or LRC until you hit 2000pts. Grab another large Crusader Squad to accompany your Castellan (dont bother spending loads on sword brethren if your getting a cheap HQ) as 2 large units of BT give most opponents pause for thought. Then basically do what Stitch has recommended and get some more anti-tank and speedier units in the list.

| The Emperor's Mercy ![]() ![]() ![]() | good to see all the action around here happens when i am asleep or in class [different time zones, ya know, lol] luthor, although i don't see a quadruple post, please try and make use of the edit button. it's really handy when you've forgotten to say something. as the forum rules state, only double post if the thread is several days old and you've not gotten a satisfying answer, or if you have something new and pertinent to say, like in this case if you had a new army list modification that you wanted to ask for critiqing for. please [this not aimed at you, luthor] refrain from snide and cruelly witty comments. i find them pointless and sometimes rude. on topic though, i think spikey, captain slow and stitch have just provided a whole new slew of input for you, which, given your lack of response thus far i take that you haven't had a chance to read it over. look it over, fix up the army list and post it here again, ask more questions, whatever else. :] cheers -ø

![]() Yup I do collect 'em as well. As for more units, Stitch has already covered a lot of that. First off, take another HQ choice. Apparently Emperors Champions don't count as a compulsory HQ choice. Somethin' I never knew. You can take either a Chappy or a Castellan/Marshal or both. It only depends on what you equip them with really, and only a bit on how you're gonna' use 'em. The Castellan/Marshal is nice, as he has the Rights of Battle special rule. Chaplains are commonly equipped with jump packs, so if you wanted you could take one of them, along with an assault squad, and have a nice CC squad that has the option to become a nice tank hunter squad.

| i started thinking about my next 750 points last night. i added in my chappy and gave him a jump pack so he can tear around the battle feild with my assault marines.my assault marines got 2 more men with plasme pistols although im not sure about that. i aslo added in a bike squad with 2 meltaguns like stitch recomended for a bit of mobile anti tank work, and a predotor with lascanon and heavy bolters for the same purpose. i think i have a bit of a problem on spending to many points on my charectors cuz i realy like them to be decked out and also i make up backrouds for all my charectors and they have to fit in with that. i put in a sword bethren squad of 5 men but going by what you guys said i mite rethink it and put in another large unit of crusaders although im geting a bit bored becous i have quite alot of them now and i want to try something else. thanks for all your help and any more will be much apreciated ill get my army list that ive done so far up soon and you guys can have a look. i cant thank you guys more, you are the only expericed players that i have alot of cantact with cuz im not down games workshop allot thanks again |

Blog Entries: 8 | GRR YOU LEET SPEAKING R-TARD! ![]() sry just for earlier posts it does my nut(head) in /rant end use the cheap guy because he be cheap its a shame the EC is mandatory but it makes sense. You only have to think about the wargear to realise that decking them out is not required e.g. i take a Master in termie armour w/ Power sword and storm bolter. Cheap but effective try thinking about that when kitting out characters as most of the time he will have a squad to help him. will like to see next list.

| The Witchhunter ![]() | petey, thats a bit excessive. even my terse reply was a bit harsh considering i'm not a mod. anyway. luthor. boring as they may be, the crusader squads are the bread and butter of the army. if you have the models for them, they are your best bet for cost effectiveness so i would go with them. i think you are right not to go for the sword brethren just yet as they are too expensive at this level. as for your characters, yes those points do mount up quickly don't they? but don't get distracted by the shiny stuff. just keep to power weapon, bolt pistol and if you can squeeze the points for it an iron halo (or get a chaplain that has the equivelent of these already). just out of interest, are you going to be fielding an assault squad bodyguard if you give a jump pack to the chappy? i would, but even they are expensive for a worthwhile squad size

Blog Entries: 8 | I know it was harsh but i thought the image was funny. i read earlier posts and got annoyed and angry which is very bad anyhoo sorry dude. Still STOP. its Hammertime . Crusader squads are nasty buggers very useful in tight situations, elites are as has been said way too expensive, well the better ones anyway.
