i have the very same trouble with dreadnoughts

i think they MUST use the drop pod ALWAYS because they are easy targets if you lose initiative and they move really slow to present a treat that he must be in close combat.

I use with assault cannon and the power fist, the cheaper one for supporting my troops and is really good.

Convert to Blood Angels, get 2 Furiosos, drop them over the enemy`s firing line when you`re getting close and just go crazy

By view on dreads is that they`re flimsy, they`re only worth their points if the enemy isn`t shooting at them

Most gams they`ll end up dead, so at least they could end up dead causing lots and lots of havok

OR you could go the complete other way arround and use double hellfire dreads

Those are nice too. But overall i`m not too keen on single body targets for my enemy.

Now theres an idea...
But you do have a point about Furisio(spelling?) Dreads. I just with the Templars could take Dreads with two powerfists!

I don't believe so.... though it does suck that BOTH BA AND CSM can take 2 CCWs... but normal SM (or even assautly armies like SW or BT) can't... it don't make any sense.

why argue with wishful thinking, but your right it does suck that CSM and BA can take dual cc weapon but not normal marines. think of it this way there is a new SM codex somewhere in the future and you never know what could come out.

THAT would be great... it might make combat squads worth it... dread+drop pod+ venerable and furious charge...

Interestingly I never take smoke on my dreads... I see them like my preds. I don't want to spend a turn firing smoke and nothing else.

These guys have weapons I need and want to fire. No point holding back.

Just hug cover and keep firing.

I always find it affective to use 2 dreads, 1 venerable and both with assault cannon and CCW. Always give them extra Armor and smoke

Well, 2 CCW is the only real way to make a Chaos Dread kill more of the enemy than friendly forces. That or shooty Dread with Droppod. That's my opinion.

basic rule about dreads
  • armour 12 sucks.
  • theyre too expensive for what they do
  • whatever you arm them with, theyre not that good at it
  • the models rock

and i afraid in most cases, its thatlast option that makes us take them!

the only thing theyre good at doing imho is holding good cc units like howling banshees, flagellants etc

other than that, you can speand your 100+ points better elsewhere:
ahooting: 2 multimelta landspeeder or army equivalent
combat: close combat unit

True... my experience comes from the Space wolf ven dread with BS 5. Suddenly makes those lascannon shots and missile launcher shots even easier.
