Ok as i have posted before i was a necron but then the emperor gave me a new life and recruited me in to his most rigtheous of space marine chapters the Black Templars

so here is my list of models and what weapons they have .( note they are what i own not what i plan to get)

HQChaplin

6 assualt marines 1 with plasma pistol and one with blot pistol and melta bomb

crusaders

17 initiates 1 with plasma cannon , 1 with plasma gun, 4 with bolters ,1 with power weapon and pistol and 1 with power fist and pistol the rest have ccw and pistols

neophytes 6 all with ccw and pistols

Ah.
Haven't even gotten my own list done yet for my Templars.
But just wondering are you going to have any Sword Bro's / SB Termies at all?

Ah.
Sorry, you said aside from the Assault, Crusader, Chaplain you were only going to have EC and dread, and wanted advice for how to use them.
Well first things first - SB are definitely worth taking, in either form.
Even on foot, 10SB + chaplain + helbrecht (or a marshall/castellan) + EC would have around at least 12 I5 powerweapon attacks on the charge, with 4 being the EC's Str 6 I5 PW attacks. add that to the average (depending how many make it) 30 some odd CC attacks from th rest of the sword brethren, is a lot to dish out.
Plus SB/SBT are very fluffy ^.^ and have cool models/paintjobs

oh and just curious, any ideas on which vow you are planning to take for general games?

List wise (if you raelly want to use assault marines):
Chaplain:
reclusiarch, crozius, plasma pist, frag, melta, holy orb of antioch, crusader seals, termie honors, jump pack
Emperor champion is generic so doesn't matter
Crusader:
try to get a full 20 man squad then a 6 man support with only initiates
20 man initiates would have power fist, melta, and rest with CC weapons
neophytes are generic BP/CC
the other crusader squad is plasma gun + missile launcher (the latter hvy weapon is a very under-used but excellent marine weapon in my opinion)

Assault squad get full 10man, preferably one with powerfist and one with flamer.

Dread:
venerable, extra armour, TL-Las, Missiles, Tank Hunter
this is cause my dread would probably be far away and using partial cover to hunt tanks, instead of being in the thick of it. Venerable and extra armour helps the staying powre. If you want cheap dread or close range dread go Assault Cannon / CC with heavy flamer.

Well, right now it looks like you've got two troop choices:

- Large Footslogging Unit. 10 Initiates + 6 Scouts
- Smaller Firebase Unit. 7 Inititates, Plasma Cannon + Plasma Gun

Since you're going to have two CC oriented characters (Chaplain and EC), you should either build another Large Footslogging Unit for the second character to join or get a jumppack for the Chaplain and have him sit in with the Assault Squad.

You're lacking in Anti-Tank, so either tool the Dread up with LasCannon and Missile Launcher or switch out the Plasma Cannon with a LasCannon marine.
Actually, the LasCannon/Plasma Gun configuration is considered to be the best for Small Firebase's.

Put your EC with the crusaders and Chaplain with the Assault Squad with a jump pack. If you take some SB in PA put the EC with them, perhaps a commander/chaplain with them too.

Um, just want to interject: most of the Templar run-downs advise against taking Sword Brethren - not worth the points. I haven't used them yet so I can't give an opinion. Great models though. I was going to do all my Initiates using the Sword Brethren and Veteran models - but it came out pretty expensive.

Hm. really?
I was under the inpression they were good.
I'm planning to field mine as terminators, since BT Terminators are Sword Brethren only.
The sword brethren (PA) is basically trying to get a tooled up CC crew in PA at 2 attacks each. (20 attacks, 40 on the charge, and the second base attack come from a BOUGHT terminator honour for every model)
The difficulty is using them because only 1 guy gets Lightning Claws and another gets a power weapon, so everyone else is only CC. that makes a tooled up squad cost a lot and being able to dish 4-8 power weapon attacks, which probably isn't worth the trouble. (especially when you need an LRC to get them across)

At least get the PA models! They look so cool! I might get them myself just to paint them!! And it's ok to take a unit that everyone else says is hogwash now and then, just to be fluffy. And have kick-bass models kicking bass.

i disagree i have found through playing the sb that if you can keep them alive to reach cc they do really well. i transport mine in a razorback with smoke launchers and extra armor.

I know that (models being expensive), I just bought the space marine battle box and turned mine into Templars. True they're not the actual templars, but for what you buy in the box you probably save about $70 instead of buying the small teams and individual vehicles. The only ones you really need is the LR/LRC to buy if that is your thing. I have a Rhino, Razorback, LRC, and a Devastator... I think I prefer going in a different direction though. Focusing on infilitration, jump packs, and teleport units supported by small crusader squads with hvy weapon. As for tactics, I'd start by reading the dex and identifying what you like in the Chapter. Then make your list according to what you like and buying that. I am infantry heavy (all with 3+ saves anyway) and accept all challenges for the vow so 3+ always hits. I want my force fast and in your face. It may not work, but this is how I envision the Templars.

The Black Templars only have one infiltrator unit; the Sword Brethren, which, I thinks is a waste of their abilities.

Default new to black templars

According to the Codex pg 33. under special skills the HQ squad can obtain either furious charge, counter attack, or infiltrate. Along with the sword brethren making up to 20 Templars available with the skill. So, I'll stick with my original idea.

The initiates do not have the option for infiltration, nor do they have the ability to gain jump packs. The best thing you can do is stick them into Rhinos (or if you just want three squads Land Raiders/LRCs). Unfortunately that option (Rhinos) won't allow you to take neophytes (if that is your thing). LRCs are Heavy Support so BTs can have 3. That will only allow you to have up to 5 neophytes. Of course you can just slog it out and deal with the mixed armor. My choice is to HQ w/ infiltrate, SB w/infiltrate, Initiate Assault Squad, Termie Asslt squad (teleport), and 3 (10 BT Tactical squads in Rhinos (cheaper)) in larger armies I switch to LRCs. Many may say I'm just being silly, but I want things close and fast. Oh my Marshal and Priest both have teleport homers and are with seperate squads in order to bring the termies in according to the battlefield.

LRs and LRCs can be taken as transports for the BT and do NOT count as HS I believe.

According to the dex, the BTs are the only chapter able to take more than 1 LRC. The BTs take the LR/LRCs as Heavy Support options.

unless limited by the chapter traits system, any marine army can take 0-3 crusaders... (ie: they can have as many crusaders as they have Heavy Support options.)

cheers!

Black Templars are only limited to points when chosing how many Crusaders you want. Lets see, 2 for HQ transport, 3 for elite, 6 for troop and 3 for Heavy support.
