should i start black templars?

as my second army a while ago i started a black templar army but for some reason or an other i stoped but i am feeling the draw back to them but i dont know so lets see if u can conveince me to or not to.

I have always like the Knights Templar look to them,they can field alot of troops in big squads with initiates and neophytes.Dont forget the Rhighteous zeal rule it makes them deadly.They have a really cool looking FW dread lol!! I say start them they have some nice rules and models that are easily convertable.

Speaking of the FW Dreadnought I ought to paint mine soon. But ya Templars rock, I work mine as Teutonic Knights.

for fun games where winning/losing doesn't matter in any way to you having fun, go for the templars! they have a very iconic background and great imagery.

however, if you want to play at a slightly more competitive level, (and perhaps at the very least win as many games as you lose!) then just use your templars as regular space marines...
the templar list, while interesting and flavourful, is most definately the worst list to actually play! (barring pure grey knights who aren't ment to be a proper 'army')
the rightous zeal rules are crap and any decent player will use them to have you run off where they want you to, while the mixed armour rules can be used cleaverly to easily bring your squads below half strength if you take too many neophytes...

Black templars are great fun to play. but as stated they can get away from you without you even knowing it. Its my experiance however, that when you throw th mathammer out the window and go in with the blind faith of a real templar, the Emperor smiles on ya!

There isn't so much good stuff going with the curretnt BT codex in comparison to others.

This is true. My friend plays BT and besides teh Space Wolves, nothing can beat them in terms of fluff.

However, rules-wise, and equipment wise, the Blood Angels and the Dark Angels are much better armies.

My suggestion would be to use codex BA or DA (or even SM with traits) to make a decent list and paint them black templars colors...

Righteous can work both ways... I've had it used against me... but at the time I played a much more static list, against mobile lists (read: Tau, lots of SM, many Eldar lists, any list with a few fast units) it can really mess you up...

Still, like everyone said, they are a really cool army. If you don't use the BT codex, you won't get the Emperor's Champion, which is perhaps their best bonus... he is a SCARY MONSTER...

So ya, that's my opinion on the BT.

I like Chaos much better.

u make good points but over the weekend i played useing my friends army and pwned chaos in a massacre so i think i will and i have made a sweet land speeder will place pics when paniting is done.thanks guys

14may hi guys thought i would give u an update on black templares well i have chaplin Grimaldus have started a very speacil land speeder out of a dark angle bike squad sounds weird i know but when its finished i will put up pics umm i also have a marshal thats it for now but going to get a upgrade pack and make a cursader squad because i want every man that can wear a robe is is going to be a big job but i think iam up to it.

Black templar are not the cheesiest army in the game, if you play only to win win always you are with the wrong army!

they are great combatants and look great their templar look.

i think the main reason i play templers is becuse with no army even grey knights did i feel it was me and i did enjoe them but with templares it is all there the fun and i just love them the look the feel u know when u find that one army and it is just u i dont know how to say it
