just wondering iff anyone here does BFg, as im lloking for the rules for the basic imperial escorts, as the current specialist downloads dont include the stats for the Cobra, Firestorm and the Sword class Frigates.

the reason behind this? im tempted to do a very simple link system for a game of 40K and BFG. the problem, i want to do a SM fleet. and i want to see if the cobra Etc, are better than the SM versions. because the Sm ships strike me as being fairly fragile in comparison with other imperial Navy ships of similar size and class.

Very cool, cheers for that Romulas. Very helpfull, now all i have to do is spend alittle time drawing up an amy list.

but i have anouther question, as im pretty much a BFG Virgin, and im going to have a good long Read through of the rules tonight when i get a chance. Space marine and imperial Fleets? can i take choices from the imperial fleet EG: A Mars Class crusier, and have it as an alie to my SM fleet? or is it illegal? or are there some special restrictions on it?

You could use the segmentium solar Armageddon fleet list.
That has both SM and Navy ships in it.

i plan too, but so far i dont like the fact that i have to have a navy admiral/captain and as i said im a bit of newbie when it comes to BFG so im unsure as to how to makeing squadrns with SM and Imperial frigates. i know they cant be mixed, i just want a fleet with say...
2 SDRN's of SM Gladuis Class ships
3 Strike crusiers (theres a reason why i dont want a Battlebarge)
and then say some mars class ships or something along those lines?

Escort squadrons are just 2-6 escorts (of any class) that are deployed together and have to stay within 15cm of each other.
They must be designated as a squadron on your fleet list.

Cruisers
The same as with escorts but you only have to specify which ships are squadroned together at deployment.

Battleships
This is the same as cruisers.

You can't squadron ships of different types together (escort, cruiser, battleship) or SM and Navy ships together.

All sounds very cool. but, can i take SM Ships and Imperial Navy ships in the same fleet? at the same time?

Yes...You just can't have the SM and Navy ships opperating together as a squadron.

Feel free to poke holes as big as my head in my list. im am very new to BFG and i want to play and yet i have no idea how to, or the tactics involved. but im damn eager to learn! i have one more question...its a reccuring habit isnt it? anyway, whats the average size for a BFG game, as im thinking...say 1000pts. too small?

Jesus, undeafeated. damn, just read the thread, and i must say theres alot there. A hell of Alot, but id like to my own SM fleet, simply because...i just like the idea of doing a crusade fleet with ships made up of a few diffrent SM chapters.

the other was great dice rolls for the planet killer
i swear that thing at full strength is like watching the Death Star destory the rebal fleet

25-6 not bad romulas, not bad at all.
however i might not know alot about BFG but one of the things i do know is that necrons are seriously dirty as far as thier ships go. Very dirty indeed.
that and the planet killer is just the deathstar by anouther name, and shaped diffrently. ^ ^

but as for the BFG Fleet list, im drawing one up as im typeing this, and after alittle thinking (you could hear the little gerbil in my head go round and round i was thinking that hard >< ) I've decided to go with Space Marine Fleet, but a themed one, and ive chosen to not use any imperial Navy vessals in the fleet. just out of preferance, and after all, if the list ive drawn up is crap im sure you guys will gladly point it out for me. ^^

Fleet Size:
Generally the "average" fleet is 750-1000 for a "standard" game.
Personally I like 1500 for "small standard" game.
2500 is good size too.
(The above was information given to me by local resident BFG-master. Who owns giant fleets from the "original four")

BFG is easily one of the cheapest TTG's out there.
And also BFG is usually a campaign game too.

Games Workshop Specialist Games
has all of the rules, datasheets, etc. Use the UK version because it's probably the most un-error-prone.
I suggest you read through the Ships of the Gothic Sector and To Cleanse The Stars fleet lists (to get the idea of the ships and army lists) as well as the basic and advanced rules first.
Also, go to the FAQ/Errata section and read through the "2007 changes".

Changes which I HATE btw.
i.e. Nova Cannons no longer guess range, Ordnance no longer "runs out" on snake-eyes, and more un-fun things like that.

So Basic Rules > Fleet Lists > Advanced Rules
Then make your fleet roster.

Cool, cool, im currently reading the PDF of the rules, well just started right now. but ill get through it, but i do have a general idea of what i want to do, and how many points, a 1000 and have a themed fleet.....because stuff with a theme is always better!

Well, the whole Idea of doing a BFG fleet, was to have it as an add on for my 40K games, say one week we play a break out scenario in BFG, that has knock on effects in a 40K Etc, Etc. that and not too long ago some of the local old school vets pulled out thier chaos and imperial navy BFG fleets and went at it for a few hours, many laughs were had by all. ^^
then this wensday just gone i simply decied i wanted to have a game and see what its like. so ive got that arranged, and im borrwoing a SM strike crusier and a small fleet for a quick game with a friend of mine. and if i like the game, but something tells me there nothing BFG i wont like....save the necron fleet lists....ahem.
so i decided to pull a simple 1000pts fleet list togther.
the theme, a few guys in my local GW; friends of mine; have just all started new SM armys, Davidus, petey, and myself being amoungst them. and i was thinking, make a crusade fleet featureing a strike cruiser from Each army. and possibly some frigs as well. the main idea being that this is a SM crusade fleet not made up of one chapter but many, something akin to a Black templars crusade fleet. only diffrence is, this fleet will go its seperate ways once the battles done.
