Default just got my filthy, dirty paws on...

well, after a recent 'purging' of old and generally usuless material taking up 'oodles of space in our store, i've managed to grab myself the store's old and somewhat beaten copy of 'Inquisitor'. (yay for me!)

so here's the big question;

does anyone still dable in this game, and if so, what are your experiences with converting the larger, all-metal models???

i'm looking at starting a warband for odion which will include;
odion himself! (obviously!!!)
virgil, mutant emissary ('heavy support gunner w/surgically grafted heavy weapon!)
techpriest ballion (the first one to go down the dark tunnel into the spooky tomb)
crusader methos (typical bad-ass, 'uber fighter looking to resotre his lost honour, who's being used by his 'boss' for "other" purposes!)

i've heard about the up-coming changes to mail order, so hopefully i'll stil; be able to do this sometime down the road?

cheers!

Ive played a few times.... (not big on playing actually... my brother is the only comp. in the stix) converted and painted about 10 *the conversion possibilites are LIMITLESS!!!!
Its hard to believe that a larger mini would be harder to paint tho.

If you keep em and dont play, they can be used as statues/scenery.. thats what my brother did w/ his Joseph the Preacher

Our local GW does this:
- Use 40k models because it's better for conversion, and easier to use
- because it's 40k sized terrain doesn't need converting

And uh, if you're ever in the nation's capital, come by the Bayshore store there'squtie a few Inquisitor players in there that are regulars / store employees.

Lol.
yeah i know what you mean.
Also th thing about 40k scale inquisitor is that it's cheaper, and easier to make "mini-squads" for, because some of our inquisitor campaigns here at our store is done with 3-ish man squads

Dispelling the misconceptions and some general pointers regarding Inquisitor:

1)
Quote:
i've heard about the up-coming changes to mail order, so hopefully i'll stil; be able to do this sometime down the road?
The Specialist Games range will currently be unaffected by these changes, although it has already been noted that bits ordering has gone down with the Inquisitor range, forcing people to buy entire models for certain parts (greatly increasing the volume of trading on the Arcadian Smugglers Ring)

On a related note, the website Within, Without, Beyond contains a vast list of very suitable parts from across all the GW ranges for use in 54mm Inquisitor.

2)
Quote:
Our local GW does this:
- Use 40k models because it's better for conversion, and easier to use
- because it's 40k sized terrain doesn't need converting
This is commonly known as Inquisitor28 (Inq28 for short), referring to the fact that it uses GWs 28mm range - players of Inq28 are jovially referred to as Heretics by 54mm players (the exception being southern hemisphere players who have no choice in the matter).

3)
Quote:
got a copy of Inquisitor myself, thinking of turning it into a version of a 40K rp (cant be bothered to fork out cash for the real 40k rp)
Inquisitor is not a roleplaying game, it is a small-scale skirmish wargame with super-detailed rules, with narrative being a major driving force.

4)
Quote:
easier to make "mini-squads" for, because some of our inquisitor campaigns here at our store is done with 3-ish man squads
Inquisitor works at its best with fewer models, 3-man warbands are common, with 4-man being the average used. The way you talk of them as "mini-squads" makes me suspect that your group are simply using the Inquisitor rules for detailed skirmish games, rather than to play Inquisitor - The Battle for the Emperors Soul

5)
As a final note I throughly recommend anybody who plays Inquisitor or is interested takes a good look at the following websites:

The Conclave - This is a forum formerly run by GW but now independent (GW still provide server space out of good-will). It is without a doubt the heart of Inquisitor on the internet.

Specialist Games - Inquisitor - yes, this is just the homepage for Inquisitor on the specialist games website, but here you can do the following; download a complete updated version of the rulebook for free, read battle reports, find an array of different new archetype guidelines, find the results for character competitions, tonnes of additional fan-written rules that have been approved, and much more.

Dark Magenta - Yes, the website is currently out of action. However, this is the home of Dark Magenta, the amazing new fanzine created by members of The Conclave. An interim version of Issue 1 has already been released (problems with page layout) and is packed with 72 pages of Inquisitor goodness. Issue 1 includes:
The Grand Inquisitor Speaks - Editor-in-Chief, Derek Gillespie, opens the first issue of Dark Magenta with some well chosen thoughts.
Beginnings - A dramatic introduction to our first battle report.
It’s All in the Mind - Ruaridh Dall gives us a treatise upon the effective use of mental characteristics.
Kaled’s Modelling Showcase - Dave Knowles gives us a brief tour of his collection.
In the Beginning - Phil Weston shares some wise words on how to get started in the Inquisitor hobby.
In the Shadow of the Throne - In our first Feature Article, veteran Robey Jenkins introduces us to the holy of holies.
I Am Not A Monster - A controversial conversion, as Robey shows you how to build your very own mutant enforcer!
Modelling Masterclass - Having shown us his collection, Dave Knowles shares his secrets as he builds a brand new conversion.
Instigation & Insurrection - Derek Gillespie, Jeremy Lowe and Ruaridh Dall duke it out on Agripinaa, in the first of a linked series of battle reports.
Communiqués - Via the astropathic duct come your questions and queries.
The Last Word: Gathering Dust - In the first of a series of columns, Robey “Precinct Omega” Jenkins tries to understand why some people don’t play Inquisitor. Beyond, “Because they’re heretics!” …
Anyone interested in getting a copy of Dark Magenta Issue 1 and without the patience to wait for the site to be fixed (its been down for a week now) should PM me with their email address. Be aware that the pdf file is 2.414MB (yes, seriously, what else would you expect for 72 pages?).

It should also be noted that DM1 was released in mid June after five months of hard work from the team, with Issue 2 currently slated for release in December or January.

Really? That's funny... I can't be bother to try and work out my own RP rules... so I'd end up buying the rule-book... lol.

Not to mention everything BI and Green Ronin have created is gold.

He's not insinuating such either, is he Heroka? He's saying he's using the rules as a basis for an RP, which is perfectly acceptable. I can see real potential in the system for such a MOD. Keep us updated, eh Baron?

I've got a free copy of the mini-rulebook. the Dark Heresy or whatever game that's coming out is cool. Though, admittedly, i'll likely only play if you can be a Psyker/Itnerrogator, or when the Death Watch marine expansion comes. Those being because they're the only roles i'm interested in.

I know, it was more of a general point, however Inquisitors D100 system is not very suitable for quick running role-playing games, which in the vast majority of cases use the D20 system.

I would say more on this matter, but I have a driving lesson in about two minutes and need to get ready.

Notice he could always port it by a deduction of all values / 5. It'd be full of work, to be sure. But easy enough.

turns out i had the wrong day noted for my driving lesson *rolls eyes* - but back on topic, I'm not saying that it would be impossible or anything, just that it would probably be more potential work to convert it into a fully working system than simply buying Dark Heresy.

True... But pending a full scale investigation of both systems (I do intend to do such eventually), it seems at first glance, the more robust and versatile system, and more adaptable to bigger groups, and for people having minions/NPC help. though it is only the mini-rules, Dark Heresy seems pretty poorly linear so far. I am not yet giving up hope though! There is much potential!

The final Dark Heresy book will be vastly superior to that sample booklet. The booklet misses out about 80%(at least) of the game-play/rules/what-have-you. Dark Heresy is also going to be absolutely jam-packed with new fluff. A hell of a lot of Inquisitor players are going to be buying it just for the fluff. Dark heresy has a far greater range of archtypes than Inquisitor had in its own rulebook (tho the amount has increased drastically since, at least double, possibly triple now). and within these archtypes are lots and lots of different "career levels" as they'd be known in an RP game, giving Inquisitor players even more ideas to play with.

One of the official playtesters of Dark Heresy is a veteran member of The Conclave and believes that everyone will be extremely happy with the end result of the book.

in Dark Heresy or Inquisitor?

Dark Heresy will have everything from a near-complete breakdown of Psykers in the Imperium and their different powers to numerous ranks in the AdMech and everything and anything in between. You can also expect DH to have a very big armoury and equipment range.

Inquisitor already more than covers both Interrogators and Psykers, although there's always room for more as far as the players are concerned.

good to hear then. When this debuts (when is that) i'll have to play and most likely run a game on the forums! I hadn't had much experience, and the mini-rules on dark heresy didn't allow for Interrogators or psykers. Thanks for the assurances.

February 2008 is the final 100% confirmed release date.

Originally it was going to be Feb 07, but then they pushed it back to Aug 07, then again to Feb 08.
