If I put a chaos champion on a daemonic mount does he have to use a the big square base or can he still use a calvary base?

He has to use the 40x40 base just like archaon, Valten, and Tyrion. Unfortunately having multiple wounds turns your horse into a monster even if it isn't even all that special like tyrion and valten's elven mounts.

Shoot, if I have him on the 40x40 base can I still have him lead a cavalry unit?

If I just give him a barded steed can he use a standard cavalry?

he can still lead a normal unit of cavalry, he just takes up one extra spot. If he is on a regular chaos steed then he uses the regular cavalry base.

for an undivided or nurgle lord, i wouldn't bother with a daemonic mount as they can't really stand upto the added missile fire they'll take. (keep in mind you must randomise all shooting hits and the mount can be targeted in close combat...)

khorne, slaanesh & tzeentch lords get a decent upgrade in their respecive mounts;
- the juggernauht is tougher than the average daemonic mount due it's 4+ armour save on top of it's daemonic ward save, so it's a bit hardier.

- steeds of slaanesh are insanely fast! a 1st turn charge is possible with them, though it's likely fairly suicidal...

- discs of tzeentch fly so your chapion can zap pretty much anyone he fancies.

otherwise, i'd stick to just a basic barded chaos steed or else if you like a real pts sink, go for the chaos dragon!!!

I am considering a dragon, how wasteful are they? Is there any chance tehy can make up their points?

it's all in how you use it... dragons are great for;
- inflicting terror tests
- fast flanking moves such as scaring off enemy fast cavalry
- flank or rear charging! keep in mind that a fully healthy dragon on it's own will negate the enemy's rank bonus! with the character, you get an extra wound for unit strength to boot.

above all else though, support your large monster with at least one other unit!!! a dragon isn't invincible, there are many things such as warmachines which will rip it to shreds... but, if you can keep it out of sight of artillery or else provide a more pressing threat to that nasty cannon, (a unit of mounted marauders or flying screamers work wonders!) then you've just up'ed your dragon's lifespan and usefullness...

I am thinking of running an Undivided Lord on the Dragon and a Champ of Nurgle on a Barded steed with 5 knights, champ of Khorne on either a Juggernaut or a barded steed with 5 knights, 10 warhounds as a screen, 7 Marauder horse men, a unit it of warriors and a beastherd for a 2K list.

How would the dragon fit in there?

hmmmm... well, first off i think you need at least a scroll caddy, (Lv1 wizard w/2 dispel scrolls), as that dragon will attract every nasty trick your opponent can throw at it! (and you lack any kind of magical defense as well!)

the dragon could help your knights by manouvering to hit an enemy in the flank or rare while your knights charge the front...
also, you could use it in tandom with say the knights charging a unit's front & the marauders charge the flank. position the dragon into the enemy unit's fallback corridor to wipe them out as they try to flee! (this might work exceedingly well if you give the knights the mark of nurgle as any out-numbered enemy unit will be forced to flee if beaten!)

however, i'd drop the khorne champ & khorne knights for a wizard as your final hero... (remember, the dragon takes up a hero slot on top of the lord slot!)

I get 4 dipel dice, but I guess thats not many. So I am thinking of dropping the knorne stuff, making the Nurgle knights chosen, taking the lvl 2 scroll caddy and then taking some marauders to round out the pts.

I will use the wolves as a screen and the kinights for charge and the dragon and marauders for flanking

for the sorcerer however, if you're only taking 1, then don't upgrade his level... at 2000pts, a single Lv2 wizard will not get any spells off unless you get an irresistable force. you're better off saving the pts and getting more men on the board. (keep in mind you're still going to have a low model count as that dragon-riding lord will eat up at least 1/4 or so of your total pts!)

if you add in the chaos warriors you'd mentioned earlier, i'd mark them nurgle as well. fear is simply a lovely thing in fantasy! plus it'll give yet another psychological tool to torment your opponents with!

why not post up a list too? i'm sure there's a few others here who also dable in fantasy.
