| Trooper ![]() | Hey, all! The wife and I are in the process of moving to another state and all of my 40k stuff is packed up, so no painting or playing in the near future. However, I have a discount card from my local store I need to use up before I move and was considering picking up the fantasy rulebook and a couple of army books I'm interested in. With most of my video game and hobby stuff packed away I figure I'll have a lot of time for reading. So I figure before I dive into another money sink I'd get some advice from you folks since you're all so damn knowledgable and friendly So anyway, here goes.Where is the current edition in it's life cycle? I'd hate to pick it up only to find there is a new edition coming out it 2 months. I've narrowed my army choices down to 4 : Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts, Wood Elves, and Dark Elves. Are these armies reasonably up to date? Again I'd hate to start collection an army that is about to be redone. Although, keep in mind, I probably won't even be buying any models for 3 months or so. Also any thoughts you have on said armies for someone who is starting fresh. I'll admit I'm leaning heavily toward Wood Elves because I think their range is pretty awesome. I plan to pick up the rule book and 2 army books next week. Any help you guys can offer is greatly appreciated! |

Blog Entries: 5 | I'd go Vampire Counts, honestly. They have a new rulebook coming or has came out, and new models. Same for the Dark Elves this fall... Fantasy is in 7th Edition, iirc.

| Your Local Ori Prior ![]() ![]() | 7th edition is only a year old so there are now worries of a new edition coming out in the next few years, now of those armies you have chosen, Vampires and Wood Elves are up to date with Tomb Kings and Dark Elves needing new books! Hope that helps!

| Corporal ![]() | Wood elf models are awesome looking, and lots of variety and diversity for an army. Like stated the rulebook is still young so no need to worry. Vampire counts are awesome, really good and have just been completely re-done with new minatures!!! Tomb Kings i say could do with an update but none coming in the for-seeable future, dark elves however are being redone with new book and models in the next coming 3-4 months so If you wanted them id definelty hold out ^_^

Blog Entries: 1 | Vampire Counts are DIRTY! Oh my god the Blood Knights! /scream. Yeah its been said, Counts are up to date, as are Wood Elves and the DE are overdure imo. I would reccomend Dark Elves or Vampire Counts because the Counts are seriously dirty and I love the fluff for the Dark Elves. Malus Darkblade <3. Wood elves are my pet hate. But a good army, Tomb Kings are annoying to play as in my experience. And yeah, I was at the release of 7th edition. Good fun, not gonna be another remake of it for a while :P. Should be not too long after the Dwarf release... For the Ancestor Gods!

| Trooper ![]() | Okay, so I picked up the rulebook a couple days ago and I've decided to go Wood Elves. So can anyone tell me if the batallion is a good deal? I know some of the 40k boxes just shove random crap in a box and in some cases (Imperial Guard) don't even give you a basic legal army. The Batallion is 24 Glade Guardians, 12 Dryads and 8 Glade Riders. Seems like a good start and I believe it just needs a general. I don't have the army book yet though so I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing yet @_@ |

| Corporal ![]() | All right lets see; 24 glade guard, 12pts basic each. Thats 288points for all 24. Assuming you use them all in one block and give them Musician Standard Bearer and Lords Bowman thats +24pts giving you a total of; 312 points. these are nice core troops with the ability to be used as scouts and can carry a magic standard up to 25pts ^_^ 12 Dryads; 144pts. No upgrades available :P (apart from making one a captain (branch nymph for another 12pts) Yet again more skirmishers :P Nice thing about these is quite nice stat line, s4 t4 A2 and Int 6. They also cause fear !! ahahah nasty :P Also have forest spirit special rule, quite handy :P 8 glade riders; (with full command) ; 228points. Fast cavalry average elf stats, elven steed M9 ! :P thats fast ^_^ So altogether you will get roughly 684 points from that battalion (wiht command guys etc) nice amount ![]() These are all core choices so throw in a General guy and your'e ready to go :P Hope this helps you some-what. I dont know much about these guys, i just have the army book at hand lol
