Blog Entries: 4 | After reading Brothers of the Snake I've found that I really enjoy the Iron Snakes chapter. They actually have some character to them instead of just Emperor's name chanting monks. They also seem to be deviant enough from standard Marines that I could make a minidex for them. I don't have much experience with the actual 40k game so this will be an ongoing project of mine with some help (hopefully) from you guys. Thus, here I go. I'll wait to make actual rules until the new Space Marine Codex comes out, but I can brainstorm until then. -------------------------------------- 1. It seems that all Battle Squads have a Tactical Apothecary in their ranks 2. All brother marines trained well in close combat as well as ranged, and carry CC weapons with them in addition to Bolters 3. Sgt. Priad to be a special character, add him to a squad to benefit them somehow. 4. Chapter does not seem to carry many heavy weapons 5. Prefer smaller formations and battles. 6. Form rigid lines that slowly transition to close combat instead of charging the enemy immediately with blades drawn.

| I'm with you on this. I'm painting up 1,000 points of Iron Snakes that have to be finished within a month from yesterday july 12th. I have a penchant for writing well balanced but slightly underpowered and boring rules to some. If you don't want a voice of reason I'll sit it out. Here are some pictures of my Snake test models. I tried to paint them straight off of the cover. ![]() ![]()

Blog Entries: 4 | Well I'll over power the stats, you under power the stats....then we find the median for a perfect balance ![]() With CC weapons, and Apothecaries in every squad they'll be good in combat when closing in. Not quite Necrons, but they'll hang on longer then standard smurfs. Let's try and make some rules that I know really won't be changing that much with the new book. ---------------------------------------------- Iron Snakes Apothecary: All squads have an Apothecary within them aiding wounded marines to fight on even in the midst of battle. Iron Snake Apothecaries may be equipped with Terminator armor or Jump Packs. Wargear: Bolter, Close Combat Weapon, Narthecium, Reductor Special Rules: Just a Scratch At the start of your turn roll one D6 per Apothecary, on a roll of 6 a Marine that had been knocked out of action in the Apothecary's squad stands up and continues to fight. -------------------------------- Pick it apart, add to it. Let's see what we come up with.

| The only problem I have now is the timing. We are making rules for an army that is going to have completely different rules soon. I imagine that the Apothecary rule would be similar to the Purity Above All trait with the exception that it doesn't have to be the Vet Serg who is upgraded but just any trooper. It doesn't say anything about their Apothecaries being better than anyone else's just that they have them in most units. Most of the book they didn't have the extra hand weapon going. I don't think that the awesome 300 type scene is there usual way of fighting. I would like to incorporate something like it at some point though.

Blog Entries: 4 | I don't know it looked like the tight packed line with lances and combat shields is a highly practiced formation. Perhaps some rule that helps Iron Snake squads when they get charged? (Here's where I over power things and get carried away) Maybe when Iron Snake squads get charged (if they haven't moved the previous turn) roll two D6. On a 10 or above the charging squad takes a close combat wound for every Iron Snake in the squad. This representing the attackers pushing their way through the Snake's defensive formation. I assume the new Marine codex will be closer to the DA one?

Blog Entries: 4 | I never said that the Notables should be veterans , and Priad is to be a special character only because he's well known and I think he could fill in as an independent character thats not an HQ. However it could also very easily be Petrok too.

Blog Entries: 2 | I'm making a IS army, and I'm doing Damocles as your normal tactical squad. Andromak carries the banner and uses a plasma gun, Priad is the Sgt with bolt pistol and lighting claw, and the rest have bolters. I see Petrok as being a souped up Librarian who excels at cc, who could tag along with any squad really, though I will prolly use him and a jump pack chappy, Cyclion, alongside assault squads.
