Default The Battle for Paranxes

Well i just played my First two battles with my Red Corsairs so i thought i would record them here. I am doing it White Dwarf style (Well, sort of =P) with a short intro. The lists will be given before the game.

Slowly the final two boarding torpedoes descended down into the atmosphere of Paranxes. The ground was rough and the remains of an imperial city could be seen scattered amongst the trees. Far above in space The Blood Reaver was now engaging in the final movements upon the Wolf of Fenris and it would not be long untill extraction. It was down to Gideon and his escort to capture vital supplies for Lord Huron but in their way stood two detachments of Space Marines. However, the element of suprise was in favour of the Corsairs and knowing this they advanced...

Game One. 4 foot square board.
Seek and Destroy
General: Zeb[edee]
Chaos Space Marines-
10 Man CSM Squad
-Aspiring Champion
-Power Weapon
-Plasma Pistol
-Twin-linked bolter
-Icon of Chaos Glory
-Meltagun
-Heavy Bolter

10 Man Khorne Berzerker squad
-Skull Champion
-Power Fist
-Plasma Pistol
Points total= 497

General: Captain Slow
Space Marines
2x 5 Man Tactical Squad
-Plasma Gun

6 Man Scout squad
-5 bolters
-Heavy Bolter

6 Man Scout Squad
-5 Snipers
-Rocket Launcher

Points total= 500 ish. Idk the exact points.

Deployment:
After sorting out the terrain which basically involved us making a big forest but with spaces between trees with a couple of city ruins thrown in we rolled for deployment.

Captain Slow won the dice off with a 6 to my 1 and elected to let me deploy first. My Khorne Bezerkers took position slightly off left of the center before Cap placed his first Tactical Squad off to his left of the center hidden from view by trees. My 10 man squad followed suit deploying almost directly in the middle of the board, Here they had a commanding view of the battlefield and could shoot at most places. I was done so Cap positioned his last tactical squad in more or less the exact same place before his scouts infiltrated into the Chapel of Sanctuary (Giving me the charge on Turn two unless he moved) and the others opposite from my 10 man squad.

Turn One.
Once more Cap won the dice off and proceeded to move his tactical squads through the woodlands, whilst this would keep them out of the action it also prevented my many AP 2 or better guns (Well ok, three of them) from sizzling his men. His scout squads braced themselves and we moved onto the shoot phase. His bolter armed squad (Scout Squad 1) opened fire on my 10 man squad felling one with bolter fire before the Heavy Bolter opened up and wounded three times. However, the Power armour saved them and only one fell to the withering fire. Next it was Scout Squad 2's turn and they opened up with some nasty shots from the snipers and a Krak missile from the rocket launcher. Despite all of this. Only one Berzerker fell to the fire and his turn drew to a close.

True to form, The berzerkers ran towards the ruins screaming the name of Khorne as they went and brandishing their Chain Axes meaningfully at the pitifully armoured scouts meaningfully. The 10 man squad sat in the middle of the board content to sacrifice moving for superior firepower.
The shoot phase began with the Heavy bolter opening up and felling two scouts outright! The bolter armed marines continued to lay down covering fire and wounded several times, However. The armour, however pitiful, saved all but one of the Scouts but this did mean they had to take a panic check.
The shooting was over and the good Captain rolled his dice and like the Space Marines they were(Sort of) the scouts stayed in the fight.

Turn Two.
This turn began again with the tactical squads slugging through the woods and that left movement at that. Shooting proved to be far more interesting with Scout Squad One felling two more marines and causing a panic check amongst the Renegades. This was not to be taken though untill Scout Squad two had unleashed its payload. This turn it was slightly better as three marines fell, their power armour crumpling like tin foil beneath the impacts of the snipers and missiles. Now it was my turn to test the will of my marines. The dice were cast and it looked as if the Chaos Gods were smiling down upon me, Or if not then at least being more annoyed at my enemies than me. My marines passed their check admirably and were staying in the fight. It also appeared that Khorne had plans for his Berzerkers as they too stayed in the fight... Just.

Once more the Berzerkers charged forwards 6 inches and prepared themselves to charge headlong into the Scouts. With guttural roars the combat monsters readied themselves and decided to shoot at the scouts with bolt pistols felling none of their number. The 10 man squad proceeded to plug away at bolter toting scout squad. This time reducing it down to the last scout! The Heavy bolter armed scout was clearly distraught at the loss of his allys but nonetheless stayed in the fight after a hasty panic check. The berzerkers prepared to charge before deciding it would take too long too reach them, Prayers to Khorne would not last that long they reasoned.

Turn Three
The tactical squads in the woods advanced even further with the plasma guns almost within sight of my models I started to pray that the strength of the Tyrant of Badab was with my men and that their armour could soak up the white hot plasma. The scout squads to their credit did not decide to run in the face of an ominous charge from the berzerkers. The shooting phase began with the heavy bolter once more opening fire. Much to the Captains dismay he rolled a snake eyes to hit but one six gave him a chance of reducing my squad down to 50%. And it did remarkably, rolling a six to wound followed by a one on my armour save. Khorne clearly cared not whose blood was shed that day. Merely that it was. The second scout squad opened fire again but were clearly unnerved by the bellowing devotees of Khorne and missed spectacularly with all fire aside from the missile launcher. The dice was cast but alas a one came up, leaving a rather formidable force to charge him in my turn...

As they had of done last turn, the Khorne berzerkers ran forwards untill they were practically standing on the scouts toes to shout their final oaths to the blood god before charging home two phases later. The now 5 man squad stood still once more and in the shoot phase finally succeeded in taking out the first Scout squad! Huzzah! 70 points destroyed at a cost of... Well. Lets not discuss that... The berzerkers once more opened up fire killing two scouts causing a panic check. This check forced the scouts to flee robbing the Berzerkers of their charge and leaving them wide open to a salvo of Plasma next turn.

Turn Four
The Tactical squads finally made it out of the woods and dug themselves in to lease their deadly payload at the remaining corsairs. The Scout Squad due to dirty space marine rules (No im not bitter. Not at all...) turned around again mockingly and proceeded as if they hadn't just fled like girls. In the shoot phase for once the Scouts did sod all! But the tactical squads made up for this by finishing off all but the berzerkers Skull Champion with bolter and plasma fire. It was truly a dark day for Khornes warriors but they proceeding knowing even one of them could take out the squad if they got the charge. The other squad brought my normal Chaos marine squad down to four models. Leaving the Heavy bolter, Meltagun, Icon bearer and Aspiring Champion. After a panic check all units remained in the game much to my relief.

Now it was the Corsairs turn and after hurried oaths to their maniacal leader the Chaos Marines ran headlong to one of the Tactical Squads whilst the Khornate Skull Champion ran to his squads undoing bellowing in the name of the Blood god as he went. The shooting phase was brief with the plasma pistol and meltagun each taking out one marine before the bolter let loosing, apparently though this marine was more concerned with squirrels in the trees than loyalists bellowing in the name of the Emporer in his face. Oh well, the assault phase came and all units charged home. The first combat was a straight four on four fight. The Power sword wreaked havoc taking down two marines before the other chaos marines tore apart another one, The other space marines got their attacks back but were too terrified to co-ordinate an effective attack and failed to pierce the power armour of the Chaos Warriors. In the other combat the five man squad systematically tore apart the Power Fist toting nasty before he had a chance to pummel them with his almighty FIVE ATTACKS!!! Back with the other combat the lone space marine passed his check to stay in untill the bitter end.

Turn Five.
This turn opened with the unengaged squad running away like girls and the other squad taking up positions ready to fire the next turn. The combat phase was far more interesting with the Power weapon easily squelching the remaining marine. His attacks back again, not even enough to scratch the paintwork. The Chaos warriors massacre moved a mighty four inches towards the other tactical squad ready to charge in their turn

Once more the plan consisted of the words CHARGE! And little else. They ran forward staring the marines in the face before opening fire with everything they had. Felling two marines with the melta-gun and plasma pistol before charing home in the assault phase. This time the other squad were too petrifie to even put up a fight and failed to score a single wound before being ripped apart by the Corsairs.

Turn Six.
The final turn opened with the final scout squad opening fire on the marines but failing to score any wounds despite several hits. The Scouts uttered prayers to their God-Emporer sensing the rage of the Corsairs at having so many of their battle brothers seriously wounded in battle.

As opposed to charging home, the Marines held their ground and opened fire with everything they had. With the Heavy Bolter taking out three scouts the melta-gun and plasma pistol took out the survivors leaving only four Corsairs on the board!

The Game however, with no scoring units left on either side was a draw. But a massive bloodbath of a Draw at that!

((Part Two will probably come tommorow))

Disclaimer:

The kills for each turn may not be entirely accurate but it is prety much what happened. It is all from pure memory so I am sure the good Captain might dispute some of what is written. The final result though is 100% true. Four models, (Aspiring Champion, Icon Bearer, Melta-gun Marine and Heavy Bolter-Marine destroyed two Tactical Squads and finished off the scouts.)

Also i forgot to mention about how the Icon of Chaos Glory saved my ASS early on. If i didn't have thar re-roll i am pretty sure the game would have gone Very differently.

Sounds like a fun battle. No need to be too accurate with stuff like casualties. Exaggeration(sp?) is part of what makes good storytelling.

Well, zeb's portraid the battle very well, theres a few things missing, but nothing really of note. save maybe the fact that the scouts in thier last shooting fase were less than 2 inches away from the corsairs!! how could they miss! it defiys belief! that anbd my cries of painm as i saw how many six's i was rolling to wound. and how many times zeb seemed to just ping them off >< that and my foul language and cries of communists towards his corsairs...but thats a story for anouther time.
but all in all, ive always loved low points games, theres less on the board, and too much in the way of big guns, so it can make for a very tactcal / interesting game. and thats one of the best ive had in a long time.
not to mention my second game since september of last year!
I look forward to playing your corsairs again zeb.

I was playing on the board with my back to Slow against an all rending nid horde and half way through moving all i hear is and i quote:

"Die you dirty Commie B*%&$£$d"

i turn round to see Zeb smiling and Slow showing the four models his scar on his middle finger was great laugh to see zeb do that.

Ah yes I remember that. As it happens i also remember Slow getting some looks from the staff members. Towards the end of the game (About the same time 4 Marines went on a killing spree taking out about 15 men on their own in Three turns!) His language was getting rather colourful xD

I honestly can't believe how satisfying it felt to beat someone who has been playing with that army for so damn long.

Well actually it was a draw but it felt like a victory. I had the last people on the board and wiped out his entire army! MWUAHAHAHAH*coughs almost as maniacally as i laughed)HAHAH

Yes it does, playing him though is more interesting as he can make some strange decisions that sometimes pay off but that is from my point of view and im more of a Gung-ho player really.

put very simply, i NEVER have a plan. i try to have one when im building my army list, i try to think how its going to play, but when it comes down to it....well, theres a very famous saying, when you finally meet the battle, plans very often fall apart quickly. well, thast not how it goes, but thats what generally happens with me, so i try to take it one turn at a time. plus it makes for an interesing game, as i can be fairly unpredictable.
^^ typical that.

Ah thats where we differentiate(sp?), as i tend to look at what is going to upset my opponent the most killing his BRAND NEW character in seconds or reaping my revenge on a Tank. i tend to choose the character e.g. someone had just painted Typhus and i turned a lascannon to him and freemed him to death FREEEEMMM! (for anyone who goes to GW Leicester wishes to know its Jamie 'Convert-it-all badly')
Keeping your opponent unbalanced means that they try and react to you, now unless they have a reactive army they will lose everytime. Other times i just use tactics as events happen.

I dont particularly have a plan as such. It adapts from game to game. For example, vs Slow i could see that he could easily outshoot me with his scouts but as soon as its close combat, My Power weapon/fist would tear him apart. And with that in mind i sent the berzerkers round to take away that threat whilst my CSM Squad sat back and shot people for a bit. THen charged in and four of their members wiped out most of Slows army

But against Ben it was clear if i took that approach i would be outshot and thoroughy screwed. So i took advantage of cover, eventually losing about five models in total before taking out his army in roughly two turns =D

TO SHAME.

but you do have a point, plus poor planning on my part, cost me the game in the end, as i had two squads at half strength, i only had to survive the Last turna dn victory would have been mine! however slim.

is that all your answer is a Flamin assault cannon, how...Naive of you(was gonna flame then though i ought not to).
Ass cannons (lol what an abbreviation) dont win games they merely do bugger all but kill maybe 6 guys.
I do not plan tactics i like seeing my opponent raging at me for wiping his/her fave unit off off the board, i only plan when i want to play a really competitive game you will see.

Off Topic The Angels Encarmine are Going to cleanse you off of Paranxes.

Well if we are continuing the Parenxes thingy, Then i need another scenario...

Ah! Got it! Now that they have the supplies the Red Corsairs are trying to get back to the extraction point but a force from the Angels Encarmine are in their way.

Isnt there a 40k scenario where you just have to break through the other players battle line?
